lowlands and eventually dissipating in the northeast mountains
by the evening. Cold air advection are bringing down
temperatures to freezing or below today for daytime highs and
clouds, even through are lifting out of the area, will be slow
today and provide coverage to keep temperatures on the chilly
side. Not to mention a breezy day will cause the air to feel
even colder and that is why there is a cold weather advisory for
the extreme mountain elevations through Sunday morning where
wind chills are forecast to get down to 20 degrees below.
Winter Weather advisories and Warnings are being trimmed down
as activity has slowed down and mainly just little to no
accumulations are expected through the morning and afternoon.
The Winter Storm Warning in the highest elevations are left in
place for now. The start of the next big event will bring
chances of snow toward the southern extreme parts of the CWA
(southwestern VA) by early morning.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 335 PM Friday...

area after collaborating with neighboring offices. See Winter

As of 205 PM Friday...

A complicated forecast for Sunday into Sunday night as a surface low
is progged to shift from the Southern Plains into the southern Ohio
Valley by late Sunday, ushering in a plume of Gulf moisture into our
area, allowing for the potential for significant snow/ice
accumulations. There is still considerable uncertainty in both the
track of the surface low and, owing to the location, what
precipitation type and how much accumulation of snow/ice will occur
across much of our area as solutions continue to hint at a likely
warm air wedge in the central portion of the county warning
area creating this mixed bag of precipitation types, with the
lone exception being the higher mountain elevations remaining
primarily snow for the duration of the event.

Regardless, significant ice/snow accumulations are expected Sunday
night into Monday morning for at least the majority, if not all of
our area. This will likely lead to hazardous travel conditions
across the entire area from at least Sunday night through Monday
night, especially with temperatures plummeting after the system
pushes east.

Of great concern is the very low temperatures that are expected the
next couple of days across the area, which would allow for surfaces
to freeze thoroughly and thus making it more likely for any
rain that falls to freeze at the surface, even with temperatures
hovering at or just above freezing for significant portions of
the area briefly Sunday afternoon.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 205 PM Friday...

Monday morning will likely showcase a mix of snow/rain across
central portions of WV, with snow elsewhere, before it transitions
to light snow showers on the periphery of the exiting surface low.
These showers should begin tapering off from west to east by Monday
night, with some snow showers likely lingering for longer across the
northeast WV mountains with additional light snow accumulations
possible.

In the wake of this system, a persistent northwest flow
pattern will develop and combine with moisture from the Great Lakes
and occasional shortwaves rotating about a primary trough draped
across the northeast to generate periodic snow showers through the
remainder of the period, especially across the WV mountains.

As far as temperatures are concerned, Monday will be the warmest day
of the week with high temperatures above freezing for most of the
area into the upper 30's. Portions of SE Ohio and the WV mountains
will however remain in the mid to upper 20's. As cold air advection
begins, temperatures will plummet Monday night into the teens to
single digits for the entire area. High temperature for the
remainder of the week will range from the low to mid 20's for the
lowlands to single digits/low teens across the higher terrain. These
bitter cold temperatures will likely need to be monitored for
potential cold weather headlines later this week.

.AVIATION /06Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 1230 AM Saturday...

Marginal MVFR cloud decks and some MVFR VIS scattered about the
area with signs of improvement after the snow showers dissipate
by early to late morning. The clouds will start to lift out of
the area from south to north somewhat by late morning to early
afternoon. VFR conditions will then return by late tonight,
late afternoon for CRW/HTS/PKB. Winds will be steady out of the
west with gusty conditions in the teens to low 20s for most of
the sites further east.
