.KEY MESSAGES...

* Seasonably mild and dry conditions expected through Friday.
  Light winds today with increasing SW winds Friday afternoon.

* Periods of gusty winds, rain, and high elevation Sierra snow is
  expected early Saturday through Sunday night.

* Temperatures will cool 15-20 degrees by Sunday as the storm
  system tracks through the region. Warmer and drier conditions
  expected early next week.

.DISCUSSION...

Mild and dry weather will settle in behind yesterday's passing
low pressure system. Mostly clear conditions with light winds
will prevail this afternoon as high temperatures return to near 70
degrees across W.Nevada with 60s for Sierra valleys.

Friday will be our last mild day of the week as western Nevada
valleys warm into the mid-70s while southwesterly breezes begin
to pickup ahead of our incoming weekend storm system. Breeziest
conditions are expected roughly north of Susanvile-Pyramid Lake
where afternoon gusts could reach 25-30 mph.

THIS WEEKEND:

* A colder, windier, and wetter pattern is favored this weekend as
  we get clipped by the southern end of an atmospheric river storm
  that will move through the Pacific Northwest.

* Saturday continues to be the focus for gusty winds and rainfall.
  Wind looks to be the most widespread impact Saturday afternoon,
  particularly for areas northward of US-50 and along the
  US-395/I580 corridor. Widespread gusts of 35-45 mph are expected
  with areas in N.Lassen and N.Washoe counties seeing 25% odds of
  seeing gusts exceed 50 mph. Sierra ridgetops gusts are expected
  to exceed 100 mph. Expect impacts for outdoor recreation,
  aviation, and cross wind hazards for high profile vehicles.

* As this system has trended northward over the last several days,
  we've seen a subsequent downward trend in rain and mountain snow
  potential. Most elevations are trending towards mainly a rain
  event with 0.33-0.75" of rainfall from the Tahoe Basin into
  Lassen County. Spillover rainfall into far western Nevada is
  becoming increasingly shadowed with 0.05-0.10" rainfall range
  with similar amounts for most of Mono County. Snowfall potential
  has also become limited with a 30% chance of up to 2 inches on
  Sierra passes above 8000 feet.

* By Sunday, temperatures will be around 10-15 degrees below
  average, with mostly 50s in western NV and low-mid 40s for the
  eastern Sierra. We'll start a slow warming trend Monday through
