.SHORT TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Issued at 218 PM MDT Fri Jun 20 2025

Currently water vapor imagery and upper air analysis indicates
moderate southwest flow aloft across the region, as a broad upper
high is in place across the Southern Rockies through the Southern
Tier, with an upper low spinning just offshore of the Pacific
Northwest Coast. Dry air within the breezy downslope southwest flow
has helped to warm temperatures into the 90s and lower 100s across
the southeast plains, with current readings in the 60s to lower 90s
across the higher terrain.

Tonight through Saturday night...

Hot, mainly dry, and windy conditions to prevail across the region,
as model data continues to support the upper high to be slowly
shunted east across the Southern High Plains, as the upper low
across the Pacific Northwest continues to translate east across the
Northern Tier through the weekend.

Any convection this afternoon, mainly along a weak sfc trough in
place across the southern I-25 Corridor and plains, will diminish
with the loss of solar heating. With DCAPE running from 1000-2000
j/kg, the main threats from any of these storms would be gusty
outflow winds up to 60 mph.

Temperatures to slowly diminish through the overnight, with clearing
skies, with lows mainly in 40s and 50s across the higher terrain, in
the 60s and 70s across the plains, warmest across the far southeast
plains, where lee troughing and breezy southerly winds will keep
temperatures warm overnight.

Little change in the forecast for Saturday and Saturday night, save
for slightly increased southwest flow aloft, as the Pac NW system
slowly moves onshore. Temperatures will be around today's values,
mainly in the 90s to lower 100s across the plains, with a Heat
Advisory in place from 10 AM to 9 PM MDT for eastern Fremont, El
Paso, Pueblo, Crowley, Otero, Kiowa and Prowers counties. Remember
to stay hydrated while outside tomorrow, with those prone to heat
related illness should limit time outdoors.

The breezy flow aloft will mix down across the area through the day
tomorrow, leading to gusty southwest winds of 20 to 40 mph across
the region tomorrow afternoon. This combined with expected low
humidity levels generally less than 15 percent will lead to critical
fire weather conditions across most of south central and southeast
Colorado once again. However, Red Flag Warnings will only be in
place across the central and southern mountain zones (FW Zones 220.
223 and 225)where vegetation and current fuel status has been deemed
critically dry. Needless to say, caution is urged to prevent
activities that could spark a fire across all of south central and
southeast Colorado tomorrow.

As for any convection tomorrow, latest model data supports low level
moisture mixing out across the plains, with dryline pushing east
into western Kansas, and will only keep silent pops across the far
southeast plains. Overnight lows tomorrow night will be around to
slightly cooler than tonight's lows.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Issued at 340 AM MDT Fri Jun 20 2025

The upper trough to our west will split on Sunday, sending a
shortwave far to our north while the main portion of the trough
deepens over the western CONUS. This will lead to gusty southwest
winds aloft persisting over our area, and temperatures similar to
Saturday, if a few degrees lower. Gusty southwest winds will mix
down to the surface across most of the area, leading to another day
of critical fire weather conditions.

Over the far southeast plains, there will be a chance for some
isolated thunderstorms later on in the afternoon, as a moisture
boundary sets up and supplies some localized lift. However, whether
or not the dryline pushes far enough west to support activity in our
CWA is in question between models. Will leave some isolated POPs in
there for now until confidence increases, but a few thunderstorms
could certainly occur prior to Sunday Night.

The trough continues to deepen on Monday as the shortwave
disturbance moves east along the Canadian border. A cold front will
pass down over the plains during the day, knocking high temperatures
down into the 80s over most of the area. Post-frontal winds Monday
evening will support better chances for showers and thunderstorms
over the plains as well. As we move further into the work week, the
deepening trough will continue to supply us with moisture and lift,
and increased instability will allow for daily chances of showers
and thunderstorms over large portions of our CWA. Temperatures will
also remain steady around seasonal levels.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Dangerous heat is expected across portions of the southeast
plains today. With high temperatures of 95 to 107 degrees, Heat
Advisories are in effect across eastern Fremont, El Paso, Pueblo,
Crowley, Otero, Kiowa, Bent, and Prowers counties through 9 PM
MDT. Those prone to heat related illness should limit time
outdoors today. Please check on friends and neighbors, and never
leave children or pets alone in cars.

High fire danger continues today, with hot, dry and windy conditions
spreading across much of south central and southeast Colorado. Red
Flag Warnings are in effect until 10 PM MDT for the central and
southwest mountains, where current vegetation and fuels are also
deemed critically dry. Please avoid any activities that could start
a fire.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms will also be possible this afternoon,
mainly across the southern I-25 Corridor into the southeast plains.
The main risks from storms that can develop today would be strong
wind gusts to up 60 mph as well as lightning.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday

Dangerous heat continues across the southeast plains on Saturday,
where Heat Advisories are in effect again for El Paso, Pueblo,
Crowley, Otero, Kiowa, Bent, Prowers, and eastern Fremont counties.
Hot, dry, and windy conditions also look to persist, with another
round of Red Flag Warnings in effect for the central and southwest
mountains on Saturday. A Fire Weather Watch is also in effect for
Sunday. Please avoid activities that could start a fire this weekend.

Thunderstorm chances return to the forecast as well, with isolated
chances across the southeast plains through the weekend. Shower and
thunderstorm chances increase in coverage and intensity for Monday
behind a passing cold front, with daily chances for precipitation
then continuing through the rest of next week, especially across
eastern Colorado.
