- Gradual clearing from west to east is expected this morning,
  with mainly showers and thunderstorms returning this afternoon
  and this evening along the I-25 corridor and across the
  plains.

- Warm and dry conditions are expected again out west, with
  critical fire weather returning to the San Luis Valley today.

- Fire weather watch continues for the parts of the district on
  Sunday.

- Fire weather concerns continue into Monday, especially areas south
  of US-50.

- Cooler weather with sctd afternoon/evening general thunder
  through late week, with temps warming up next weekend.

Updated forecasts to remove dense fog advisory, as visibility
was improving at most locations. Precip chances this afternoon
remain a question, as models continue to indicate a lack of
forcing to initiate storms. Given latest model trends, have
updated pops grids for this afternoon, reducing or eliminating
chances over most of the mountains where only isolated
convection at best is forecast. Nudged pops downward along I-25
and the plains as well, but didn't eliminate them entirely as
CAMs do point to some localized moisture convergence and perhaps
a small cluster of storms developing across Pueblo county by
late afternoon then shifting eastward across the plains during
the evening. If storms develop, there is a severe risk given
healthy 0-6km shear of 40-50 kts.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...

Currently..

Showers and few rumbles of thunder can be observed on radar and
satellite/lightning data as of 2 AM this morning across our southern
border. Area observations and radar are also indicative of light
drizzle across much of the I-25 corridor, with many reporting
locations across our plains reporting low ceilings and fog.
Temperatures are in the 40s, so freezing drizzle is not expected.
Winds are light and easterly to southeasterly for most locations.

Today and Tonight..

High res model guidance suggests early clearing from west to east
throughout the morning hours, though southeast winds could make
things drag closer to lunch time across the Pikes Peak region.
Though moisture remains in place over much of our plains today, we
lack a good trigger mechanism to spark convection, and will likely
be limited by the cap. The main concern will be our far eastern
plains, where a few high res models bring in close to 1000 J/Kg of
CAPE, along with at least moderate shear. Despite this, with an
overall lack of forcing, it seems that it will be hard to get storms
to fire. Best chances for a few stronger storms look to be over Baca
County, with lesser chances over the rest of our southeast plains.
Closer to the mountains, dry air begins to encroach at the surface
which will likely lead to mainly high based weak convection. There
is a fair amount of DCAPE over the I-25 corridor, so some of this
high based and generally weaker convection could still lead to gusty
outflow winds with any calls that manage to develop, especially over
Fremont and Pueblo counties this afternoon and into this evening.
Daytime highs will be significantly warmer than yesterday, with much
of the I-25 corridor warming to even a few degrees above normal.
Many of us will see highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s, with 70s
across mountain valleys as well. Overnight lows will also be warmer
than most, with our plains remaining in the 40s once again, and
mountain valleys dropping into the 30s.

Sunday...

Main concern this day will be fire weather potential. It is expected
to be quite warm and windy, and meteorological critical fire weather
conditions are expected over the entire region. However, fuels in
some zones are not favorable for rapid fire spread, so critical fire
weather conditions will likely effect the San Luis Valley and parts
of the plains. Another concern this day is SPC has general thunder
over all of our plains, with  marginal risk for severe over the far
eastern plains. The concern here lies in the fact that the NBM
guidance indicates no pops over the plains for Sunday. What we
decided to do is put in some low end pops over the far eastern
plains to account for the marginal risk of severe storms during
this day. Otherwise, expect a hot and windy day on Sunday over
the region with an isolated chance of severe high based storms
over the far eastern plains.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...

Main concern this fcst period will be fire weather conditions
Monday. Strong mid level trough to our west will lift off to our
north keeping strong southwesterly flow over the period. It appears
attm the low level environment will remain conducive for extreme
fire weather conditions to remain over the plains on Monday,
especially areas along and south of US50. Do not plan on issuing
hightlights attm, but will mention this concern in the FWF product.

From Tuesday into late week, broad troughieness will develop over
the region. This pattern will keep temps relatively cool with a
chance of general thunder over the region each day. At this time I
do not see any sub-synoptic pattern recognition that would be
conducive for organized strong to severe storms to develop during
this period.

By Friday into the weekend, southwesterly flow aloft once again
redevelops and we will start to warm up again with a lower chance of
afternoon and evening convection overall, however the dryline may
become active over the far eastern plains, increasing the threat for
organized severe convection over the far eastern plains. Fire
weather concerns may increase over the mtns/valleys and I-25

At KPUB and KCOS, fog has lifted as of 17z, and based on
satellite images, stratus should lift/burn off toward 19z. Did
add a PROB30 group for tsra to KPUB for a few hrs late
afternoon/evening, as several CAMs develop convection near the
terminal 22z-23z. Weak se wind overnight will likely lead to a
return of IFR stratus and fog at both sites after 06z, then VFR
conditions come back by midday Sunday as drier air moves into
the area.

At KALS, VFR the next 24 hrs with a period of gusty (g25-30 kts)
this afternoon and early evening.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

One or two severe thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon
and evening, mainly along the I-25 corridor. The primary threat
will be hail the size of half dollars, wind gusts over 60 mph and
frequent cloud to ground lightning.

Critical fire weather conditions are expected across the San Luis
Valley this afternoon and evening.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday

For Sunday, strong gusty southwest winds and low humidity will
overspread the entire region. Critical fire weather conditions are
expected over a large part of the region during the afternoon and
evening.

On Monday, critical fire weather conditions will once again be
possible over the plains, with the best chance of critical
conditions along and south of highway 50.

Scattered thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday through Friday
across the region, as an unsettled weather pattern lingers over
the area.
