- Light to moderate snow showers will continue over the higher
  terrain today.

  far eastern plains, with gusty north winds.

  across all of the southeast plains Mon/Tue as winds increase.

- Windy upper trough and cold front whip through the area late
  Tue/early Wed, with widespread snow showers and areas of
  blowing snow, especially Tue night.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...

The upper low from yesterday will continue moving off to the
northeast, as a broad upper trough trails to our south. This will
leave our region with cool and generally unsettled conditions today
and tonight. Snow showers will continue across the higher terrain
today, spreading east over the mountains/plains interface this
afternoon. The eastern San Juans, as well as the peaks of the
Continental Divide, will be seeing about 2-4 inches over the next 24
hours. The southern Sangres should be seeing 1-3 inches, while the
rest of the mountains get lighter amounts. Models are inconsistent
on how far east precipitation makes it this afternoon, but the
majority of high-res guidance shows some isolated-scattered showers
moving over parts of I-25 early this evening. However, with today's
temps climbing into the 40s-50s, anything east of the terrain should
fall as rain.

Looking out over the eastern plains today, gusty north winds will
persist along the CO/KS border. RH will hover between 15-20 percent
this afternoon right along the border, and as such some spotty near-
critical fire weather conditions will be possible, though currently
things are too spotty to warrant any highlights.

Winds will decrease along with cloud cover overnight. Precipitation
will linger over our western mountains, waning along with cloud
cover as we move into Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the 20s over
the plains, with teens in the high valleys.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...

Building upper ridge will bring warmer temps to the area Sunday,
while fairly deep lee surface trough develops along along I-25
Sunday afternoon, leading to to breezy/windy conditions, especially
gap flow areas along the Arkansas River and downstream of La Veta
Pass into Walsenburg. Air mass remains very dry, with sub 15 percent
RH in the afternoon, and a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for
the I-25 corridor from Colorado Springs south to Trinidad for
Sunday afternoon and evening. Considered adding Crowley/Otero
Counties to the highlight, as gap flow winds shoot eastward across
the plains, though speeds here taper off just enough to end up
short of criteria (25 mph), so will hold off on any eastward
expansion for now.

Warmer/windier and drier on Monday as mid level flow turns swly
ahead of digging upper trough along the West Coast. Should see
widespread critical fire weather along and east of the mountains
and across all of the plains, as w-sw winds gust 35-45 mph and
RH drops into the single digits. Upper trough then approaches
the area Tue afternoon, spreading snow across most of the higher
terrain by late day, while a strong cold front drops quickly
through the plains by early Tue evening. Overnight Tue/early Wed
snow spreads from the mountains to the plains, accompanied by
strong north winds into Wed morning. Travel impacts look likely
through the night over the mountains and Palmer Divide (and
potentially Raton Pass), though current NBM and ensemble data
suggest snow amounts on the light side, generally 2-5 inches
mountains, 1-3 inches Palmer Divide/srn I-25 corridor, Trace-2
inches elsewhere on the plains, where strong downslope north
winds will limit accums, especially around Colorado Springs and
Pueblo. Storm exits quickly Wed, with snow tapering off during
the morning, though strong north winds will persist through the
day, especially on the plains. Brief break with seasonal temps Thu,
then another windy March trough for Friday will bring back snow
showers to the mountains once again.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Snow showers will continue across the higher terrain today into this
evening, with some rain possible over the mountains/plains interface
as well. Some travel impacts may be possible, due to slick roads and
periods of reduced visibility. Meanwhile, gusty north winds and dry
surface conditions will result in spotty critical fire weather
conditions along the Colorado/Kansas border this afternoon.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday

Critical fire weather conditions will develop Sunday along the
I-25 corridor, with widespread critical conditions across all of
the plains and along I-25 Monday and Tuesday as winds increase.

Snow will return to the mountains starting Tuesday afternoon,
with widespread snow over the higher terrain from Tuesday night
into Wednesday morning. On the plains, rain and snow showers will
develop Tuesday evening, and a period of wind driven snow is
possible along the Palmer Divide, Raton Pass and eastern El Paso
County overnight into Wednesday morning.
