.SYNOPSIS...
Dry conditions, cold overnight lows, and seasonably cool afternoon
highs are expected through the weekend and into early next week. Dry
air and clear skies will result in low temperatures reaching the
freezing mark across the Arizona high terrain and some lower desert
communities, and so Freeze Warnings are in effect each morning
through Sunday. Another dry weather system will influence the region
this weekend, likely bringing breezy to locally windy conditions
over the typical wind prone areas such as along Lower Colorado River
Valley. Below normal temperatures will continue into the start of
next week before warming up midweek.

.DISCUSSION...
The strong winds experienced yesterday across the region, especially
across the western deserts, have since subsided as the responsible
shortwave trough has now dug further south into northern Mexico
according to the latest objective analysis. In the wake of its
passage, dry northerly flow aloft remains entrenched over the Desert
Southwest keeping conditions dry with mostly clear skies. Much
calmer winds are expected through the rest of the day today with
only some afternoon gusts into the teens expected. Temperatures
today will remain below normal as highs across the lower deserts
only top out in the low to mid 60s and low to mid 50s across higher
elevation areas like Globe and San Carlos.

After a chilly morning, with some places dipping below freezing in
northwest Pinal County as well as places like Globe and San Carlos,
frigid morning temperatures will stick around through the weekend
into early next week thanks to light winds, dry conditions, and
clear skies. Subfreezing temperatures are likely to expand across
the lower deserts over the next several mornings as we see the
coldest temperatures of the season thus far in many areas. Tonight
into Saturday morning, temperatures will further cool with hard
freeze conditions expected across parts of northwest Pinal County
along with populated areas in southern Gila County. Outer parts of
the Phoenix metro will also likely see temperatures dip to around
the freezing mark, especially for places like Queen Creek
Saturday morning. Freeze Warnings remain in effect for parts of
the area for Saturday morning. By Sunday morning, temperatures
further drop with greater coverage of freezing temperatures
expanding across the Phoenix metro area. Thus, Freeze Warnings are
in effect for many areas across south-central Arizona as well as
parts of southwest Arizona Sunday morning. Subfreezing
temperatures are likely to continue into Monday morning and thus
additional Freeze Warnings will likely be needed during this time.
Remember to protect the 4 P's (People, Pets, Pipes, and Plants)
from the below freezing temperatures over the next several
mornings.

The unsettled weather pattern will continue into next week as
ridging persists over the eastern Pacific while additional
shortwaves dive south into the southwest CONUS. Global ensemble and
deterministic guidance show good agreement in a shortwave diving
south early next week before cutting off near/off the southern
California coast. Ensemble cluster analysis show good agreement in
the overall evolution of this cutoff low with the primary
uncertainty at this point being exact placement. With the cutoff low
positioned off the coast of southern California, we will see
southerly flow promote WAA into our area and thus will help to boost
high temperatures into the 70s by the middle part of next week and
end the frigid below freezing morning lows across our forecast area.
Depending on where the cutoff low sets up, we could see a better
influx of moisture which would help increase rain chances across the
region. For now, NBM PoPs remain low (15-25%) and primarily focused
across the high terrain for the latter part of next week.

South Central Arizona including KPHX, KIWA, KSDL, and KDVT:
Light diurnal winds will prevail through Saturday under clear
skies. Wind speeds will remain below 10 kts for most of, if not
the entire, TAF period, with periods of light variability to calm
conditions around diurnal transition times.

Southeast California/Southwest Arizona including KIPL and KBLH:
Light diurnal winds will prevail at both terminals through
tonight, with periods of light variability. Gusty N'rly winds will
develop Saturday afternoon at KBLH with gusts mostly in the 25-30
kt range, but with a ~40% chance for peak gusts exceeding 35 kts.
Some lofted dust can be expected, which may reduce visibility
under 10 SM. N'rly winds will not be as strong at KIPL, with
afternoon gusts into the middle teens. SKC will prevail.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Dry conditions are expected through at least early next week.
Breezy northerly winds may develop after sunrise along the Lower
Colorado River Valley and portions of SE CA, though nowhere near
as strong as yesterday, and will gradually decrease over the
course of the day. Light and diurnal to nearly calm winds are
expected areawide by this evening into Saturday. Another weather
disturbance diving into the Great Basin this weekend will act to
increase north northwest winds once again late Saturday into
Sunday along the Lower Colorado River Valley and portions of SE CA
and SW AZ. Widespread daytime gusts to between 20-35 mph are
expected. Afternoon minRHs will range between 10-20% areawide
today and Saturday, with poor to fair overnight recoveries between
25-45%.
