.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure remains firmly in control through Tuesday. A strong
area of low pressure will track into the Great Lakes region on
Wednesday and into Quebec on Thursday. A strong cold front
associated with the system will pass through the region early
Thursday morning. High pressure briefly returns for Thursday and
Friday, ahead of another low pressure system and sequence of fronts
that pass through over the weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
With clear skies overhead thanks to a broad 1025mb high
pressure system laying across the region, temperatures have
risen into the mid 30s across much of the area early this
afternoon. Soundings continue to suggest we should be able to
mix to around 850mb by mid afternoon. 850mb temps should be -11
to -13C which corresponds to temps only warming into the upper
30s this afternoon. A few spots in Delmarva and in the heart of
the Philly metro may be able to crack 40 degrees but still a
cool day overall for early March. Northwesterly winds will
occasionally gust this afternoon to 15kts or so.

As the high moves offshore overnight, light southerly flow will lead
to weak warm air advection keeping overnight lows in the mid 20s
which is still slightly below normal for early March across
DelMarVa, eastern PA, and NJ.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
Tuesday will essentially act as the "calm" before the storm as high
pressure shifts offshore resulting in the return of southerly flow.
Winds will be gusty at times upwards of 20-25 mph, but this will
allow warm weather to return to the area. Generally, a mix of sun
and clouds are expected with high temps mostly in the 50s.

By Tuesday night, a deep mid to upper trough will be situated over
the nation's heartland, shifting east into the Great Lakes region on
Wednesday while beginning to tilt negative. At the surface, a
deepening surface low will be ejecting out of the Central Plains
on Tuesday night, before occluding while tracking into the Great
Lakes on Wednesday into Wednesday night. Accompanied with the low
will be a potent cold front which will sweep east across the country,
reaching the Mid-Atlantic states late Wednesday night into Thursday
morning. For the most part, Tuesday night will remain dry, until
the wee hours of Wednesday morning. However, moisture advection
will steadily increase as a weak impulse aloft lifts northeast
overnight. This impulse may be accompanied with a few showers,
especially north and west of the urban corridor, but largely any
significant shower activity should hold off until day break on
Wednesday.

For Wednesday, mild conditions are in store with temperatures in
the 50s/60s with periods of rain expected, especially during
the afternoon associated with some pre-frontal activity. This
will be coincided with continued warm air/moisture advection and
the development of a strong 65-80 kt low level jet. With such a
strong kinematic wind field in place, if there are any breaks in
precipitation and any further destabilization occurs, these higher
winds aloft may be able to be tapped into and brought down to
the surface. Forecast soundings as of this morning continue to
suggest that instability should be quite limited, however a low-
topped convective line may be in the cards associated with the
cold front itself on Wednesday night. All in all, the potential
remains for a few strong to severe wind gusts to occur due to
the overall nature of the background wind field, regardless if
any severe weather is to occur. This threat is well supported by
machine learning and analog guidance. The Storm Prediction
Center has outlooked a Day 3 Slight Risk (Level 2/5) for portions
of the area; mainly across the Delmarva. The remainder of the
forecast area (outside of extreme northern NJ) is in a Marginal
Risk (Level 1/5) for severe weather. Again, the primary threat
will be damaging wind gusts...however with a vast amount of speed
and some directional shear, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Once the cold front tracks through the area late Wednesday night,
precipitation will diminish as drier air begins to move in from the
west. In terms of rainfall amounts, expecting between 0.5-1.0 inches
across the Coastal Plain. Across the higher terrain of northeast PA
and NJ, including the Lehigh Valley, rainfall amounts between 1-2
inches are expected. Localized higher amounts could be possible.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Little changes have been made to the long term forecast with this
update. Following the low pressure system and cold front from the
previous night, Thursday will feature improving weather as dry air
filters in. The upper trough will still be close enough to touch off
in the higher elevation areas during the day. After that dry
conditions are expected for Thu afternoon and into Friday as high
pressure gradually returns. There won't be much in the way of cold
air following the system, so temps will only return back to near
normal levels. It will be quite breezy on Thursday and Friday
though, as the pressure gradient remains modest.

For next weekend, deterministic and ensemble guidance depicts
another low pressure system and cold front impacting the area.
Atmospheric profiles suggest that this system will lack any
substantial moisture though with the abundance of dry air in place.
For now, have carried 20-30% PoPs for Saturday and Sunday as .
timing difference amongst forecast guidance remains. Temperatures
will remain close to normal, so most areas will have rains but a few
snowflakes during the overnight for the NW areas could occur.

Tuesday...VFR. A south to southwest wind at about 5-10kts. Wind
gusts pick up late morning through the evening to around 15-20kts at

developing late Tuesday night.

Wednesday through Wednesday night...Sub-VFR likely. Periods of rain,
heaviest during the afternoon and evening with a slight chance of a
