.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure over the Midwest builds overhead tonight before
moving offshore on Tuesday morning. A series of low pressure
systems will pass south of the area through the Middle Atlantic
Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday before another system passes
over the area Wednesday night and departs on Thursday. High
pressure builds over the area for the end of the week, and then
another system will affect the area for the upcoming weekend.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
High pressure lies overhead at this hour and is beginning to
migrate offshore. Skies remain mostly clear but are starting to
see some mid-high level clouds work in from the west. Updated
grids accordingly basis ongoing observations. Lows will range
from the teens across the far NW areas to the low/mid 20s for
most other areas. Light winds. Clouds increase overnight with
temperatures trending more steady after that.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
A series of low pressure systems will pass through the Mid-Atlantic
during the Short Term period, bringing several rounds of wintry
weather to the region.

The initial focus will be on the southern third of the forecast
area. High pressure will be centered over New Jersey Tuesday morning
and will move offshore by early afternoon. Low pressure will
organize and develop over the Gulf Coast states, and a warm front
extending out from this low will lift through the Mid-Atlantic. A
secondary low will form over the Mid-Atlantic coast late Tuesday,
and this low passes southeast of Delmarva and New Jersey Tuesday
night. Overrunning precipitation will develop out ahead of the low
and lift into the eastern shores of Maryland and Delaware by Tuesday
afternoon. 12Z/10 models have backed off on the strength of the
departing high, particularly over Delmarva, so snowfall looks to
begin around midday with dry conditions lingering into the afternoon
for areas further north.

Snow will then progress northward and continue to fall Tuesday night
through Wednesday morning with a primary focus over the eastern
shores of Maryland, central and southern Delaware, and southeastern
New Jersey, where 5 to 7 inches of snow will fall. A Winter Storm
Warning is now in effect for these areas as a result. Snowfall
totals across southeastern Pennsylvania, central New Jersey as well
as northern Delaware and the remainder of southern New Jersey will
generally be between 2 to 4 inches but locally higher amounts will
be possible, particularly southeast of I-95. A Winter Weather
Advisory has been issued for much of this area as well. 1 to 2
inches of snow is forecast for the southern Poconos, northern New
Jersey, and the Lehigh Valley. Behind the departure of the secondary
low, the first low that was over the Gulf Coast states will depart
off the Mid-Atlantic coast Wednesday morning.

Another low organizes and develops over the Ark-LA-Tex area
Wednesday morning, tracks northeast during the day, and tracks
through western Pennsylvania and western New York Wednesday night as
another secondary low develops out ahead of it. That low passes
through New Jersey and will be off the Jersey Shore late Wednesday
night.

With the break between systems, much of daytime Wednesday is
trending drier, particularly outside of Delmarva and southeastern
New Jersey. However, by Wednesday afternoon, PoPs will be increasing
once again. Precip for the remainder of Wednesday and into Wednesday
night will feature more in the way of a mixed bag of wintry precip,
first over Delmarva and southeastern New Jersey Wednesday morning,
then the wintry mix lifts north late in the day, and into Wednesday
night. Wintry mix changes to plain rain from south to north
Wednesday night. With a trend towards a faster changeover, snowfall
accumulations have trended downward as during this time period,
snowfall is now forecast to be less than an inch over the southern
half of the forecast area, and from 1 to 3 inches over the northern
half. Some icing concerns remain though, mainly northwest of the I-
95 corridor, where mainly a trace to a 0.10 inches of ice is
forecast with up to 0.20 inches across the southern Poconos, Lehigh
Valley and northwest New Jersey.

Heading into daytime Thursday, the second system will move offshore
to the northeast, bringing an end to the lingering rain by around
midday.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Not bad weather for the end of the week, like the beginning, as
strong high pressure will settle across the Middle Atlantic region
Friday. Skies are expected to favor sunshine over clouds and there
will be a bit of a breeze. Temperatures will be below normal, however,
with highs only in the mid/upper 30s for the Delaware Valley and
Delmarva. Across North NJ and the southern Poconos, highs will
be in the upper 20s to low 30s. Increasing clouds Friday night.

Unsettled conditions are expected this weekend. Low pressure
forms across the southern Plains states late Friday and heads
northeast into the Middle Atlantic region. Clouds will prevail
all weekend. There could be a period Saturday morning with limited
precip, the global models aren't in agreement with this. Accordingly,
we'll have chance pops Sat morning and then likely for the afternoon,
Categorical pops (mostly) will round out the weekend. Precip type
will largely be rain for the southern/eastern parts of the area.
Precip could start as a little snow, however. The northern/western
areas could have some accumulating snow, especially across the
Poconos on Saturday but then mix with or change to rain later
Sat/Sunday as warmer air arrives. We'll have more details regarding
this as it gets closer in time. Temps will be above normal much
of the weekend but well above normal for the S/E areas.

Next week looks to start with fair weather as the storm departs and
high pressure begins to build over the area. It will remain cold for
mid-February with highs mostly in upper 20s/low 30s.

.AVIATION /05Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...

Through 12Z...VFR with increasing high clouds, especially after
midnight. North-northwest winds around 3-5 kt becoming light
and variable at times. High confidence.

Tuesday...VFR to start before sub-VFR conditions arrive in the
late afternoon with the onset of snow. Winds light and
variable early then S or SE 5 to 10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Tuesday night through Wednesday night...Sub-VFR conditions in SN
  Tue night through Wed morning, then sub-VFR in SN/PL/FZRA
  late Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night. Potential
  for improvement in conditions during a break between rounds
  of precipitation midday on Wednesday, but mainly sub-VFR
  conditions expected.

Thursday...Sub-VFR in RA in the morning, then improving conditions
  in the afternoon.

Friday/Friday night... VFR expected. Gusty winds Friday.

Saturday... VFR for the morning then lower CIGS/VSBYS expected.

.MARINE...
No marine headlines expected through Tuesday. NW winds around 10
kt gusting to 15 kt Monday night will become light and variable
Tuesday. Seas 1 to 2 feet.

Outlook...

Tuesday night...SCA conditions may develop late, especially across
the southern waters with NE winds gusting to 20-25 kt. Seas 2-3 feet
building up to 4 feet.

Wednesday through Thursday...SCA conditions for 25+ kt wind gusts
and seas building to 6 to 8 feet. VSBY restrictions in wintry mix on
Wednesday, then rain Wednesday night into Thursday night.

Friday...Fair weather expected. SCA will continue for the
daytime hours, then subsiding winds and seas.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
The latest TWL forecasts have been issued. As was the case
during the past few cycles, few issues expected until Thursday
morning. At that time, the effects of the upcoming full moon
(Wednesday) and the second storm combine to produce a period of
low-end minor tidal flooding at many coastal sites. The departures
are mostly around 0.3 at the most vulnerable sites. We'll continue
to monitor in case any products are needed. Interests along the
coast should monitor the forecast as we get closer.
