.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will remain in control through Thursday. A low
pressure system will pass by to the north on Friday as a cold
front slowly approaches from the north on Friday night. This
front will meander over the area through the weekend, causing
another round of unsettled weather. The front should sink south
of the area by Monday allowing high pressure to temporarily
return in its wake.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Surface high pressure lies over central New York and central
Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, an H5 trough lies over the Northeast.
Surface high pressure builds east and will be off the coast of
Cape Cod later today, then settles over the western Atlantic
tonight. The H5 trough begins to flatten out later today and
then will be replaced by mid-level ridging tonight. Heights will
begin to rise later today.

Some shortwave energy will dive into the base of the trough once
again this afternoon, but sea breezes will not be as strong. Not
quite expecting the shower activity that developed on Tuesday,
but still cannot rule out a spotty shower or two, mainly over
portions of Delaware and southern New Jersey around Delaware
Bay.

Highs today will be in the low to mid 80s, but surface dew
points will begin to creep up due to an east to southeast flow
developing over the area.

Mainly clear tonight with a light southerly flow. Low level
moisture continues to increase over the area with surface dew
points creeping up into the low to mid 60s.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
The end of the week will feature increasing temperatures and
humidity, and returning chances for showers and storms late
Friday.

An upper ridge axis will be passing overhead on Thursday. This
will shift offshore while flattening and weakening Thursday
night into Friday. A trough axis will then pass just north of
our area late Friday. At the surface, ridging will remain
offshore and to our southeast, allowing for persistent southwest
return flow through Friday. Another slow moving, weak cold
front will push slowly southward through the area late Friday or
Friday night before stalling out across the southern half of
the area.

Thursday will remain dry with high temperatures in the upper
80s to near 90 degrees in most areas. There will be an uptick in
humidity compared to Wednesday, but dewpoints in the mid 60s
won't feel out of the ordinary for late July. A SSW breeze as
well. Lows near 70 degrees Thursday night. Overall, about the
most seasonable day of the week.

Friday will see afternoon high temperatures in the mid 90s in
most areas, along with dewpoints rising into the low to mid 70s.
Resulting maximum heat indices will range from around 100-105
degrees, even at the coast/beaches. A Heat Advisory will need to
be considered in a future update. Low temperatures Friday night
into Saturday morning will ultimately depend on how quickly the
front comes in overnight, but it should be a rather warm and
muggy night, especially south of the front. Lows mainly in the
mid 70s with high humidity.

As far as convective chances go for late Friday, there remains
some uncertainty due to the timing of the frontal boundary and
better forcing aloft. The better forcing currently looks to be
focused mainly northwest of our area during the time of best
instability (late afternoon), so this setup would favor
scattered decaying storms moving into the area later into the
evening. With that said, DCAPE will be high, so any stronger
storms will certainly have severe potential (damaging winds the
main threat). Long story short, a conditional severe threat late
Friday with uncertainty regarding coverage and exact timing.
PoPs are mainly in the 20-40% range south of I-78, and in the
50-60% range near and north of I-78.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
For the weekend and into early next week, very warm and humid
conditions can be expected, along with daily chances for showers
and thunderstorms.

Quasi zonal flow will remain in place aloft for much of this
period, with the stalled frontal boundary remaining in place
across the region. High PWats will be in place through at least
Sunday, so locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding will be a
threat over the weekend. The severe potential is a little less
certain, but there could be some scattered severe thunderstorms
as well depending on how the convective environment shakes out.
The NBM has higher PoPs on Sunday (50-70%) compared to Saturday
(30-50%), but which day ends up with the most convection is
difficult to nail down with confidence at this range. Scattered
to numerous showers and storms are possible each day, and we'll
continue to monitor any potential hazards with this activity.

A transition to a more east coast trough pattern aloft looks to
be taking shape into early next week. This should theoretically
result in some drier air and somewhat lower convective chances
once the frontal boundary pushes south of us, but there's a lot
of uncertainty with how the pattern transition will take shape.

The weekend and early next week will see near normal
temperatures with highs ranging from the mid 80s to low 90s and
lows in the upper 60s to mid 70s. Remaining humid as well.

Sub-Small Craft Advisory conditions today and tonight. East to
southeast winds around 10 kt today will become south to
southwest tonight. Seas will be 2 to 3 feet.

Outlook...

Thursday through Sunday...Winds and seas are forecast to remain
below advisory criteria. Chances of showers and thunderstorms
beginning Friday night, and through much of the weekend. Some
areas of fog possible at times.

Rip Currents...

Today, east to southeast winds will be around 10 mph. Breaking
waves will average around 1 to 2 feet. There will be a prevailing
southeasterly swell of 2 to 3 feet around 6 to 7 seconds. As a
result, there is a LOW risk for the development of dangerous rip
currents for both the Jersey Shore and the Delaware Beaches.

On Thursday, winds shift more out of the south around 10 to 15
mph. Breaking waves will average around 1 to 2 feet. The
prevailing southeasterly swell will fall to 1 to 2 feet around 6
seconds. As a result, there is a LOW risk for the development
of dangerous rip currents for both the Jersey Shore and the
Delaware Beaches.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Onshore flow continues today, then winds take more of a
southerly flow tonight. A new moon will occur on Thursday, July
24. After a round of minor coastal flooding Tuesday evening,
there will be another round of widespread minor coastal flooding
on upper Delaware Bay and the tidal Delaware River and its
tributaries with the high tide cycle tonight. Spotty minor
coastal flooding is possible along the New Jersey shore with the
high tide cycle tonight.

Kent county, DE was added to the Coastal Flood Advisory for the
high tide cycle tonight as well.
