.SYNOPSIS...
A frontal system will move through this afternoon into tonight.
The associated area of low pressure will continue to deepen as
it lifts up into eastern Canada Friday into Saturday. High
pressure will then build from the west through Monday. A cold
front may move across on Tuesday before high pressure returns
next Wednesday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
The forecast remains on track with the passing frontal system with
no major alterations made to the forecast.

An active period with a frontal system moving through into Thursday
night, bringing rain and gusty winds to the region.

Winds increase this morning with a tightening pressure gradient as
the surface low approaches and a 50+ kt LLJ at 925 mb begins to
slide overhead. This should lead to gusts 30-40 mph through the
day, highest along the coast. Gusts up to 50 mph along the
immediate south shore of Long Island and coastal areas around
the NY Harbor can't be ruled out, but scope does not appear to
occur widespread enough (limited only to the immediate
coastline) to warrant a wind advisory for the larger zones at
this time. Winds likely weaken as the surface low tracks
nearby tonight.

Showers around in the morning, especially from NYC and west, but the
steadiest rainfall lifts north and east through the region during
the afternoon. The heaviest falls late Thursday afternoon and early
evening as the core of LLJ passes, and localized rates could briefly
approach or exceed 1 in/hr. Based on the 00Z HREF, the most likely
location for this for be in NJ, west of NYC. This presents the
possibility of mainly nuisance flooding, mainly for urbanized and/or
poor drainage areas. Otherwise, the threat for flash flooding is low
and localized. In addition, limited weak instability could yield a
few isolated thunderstorms embedded with the activity but severe
weather is not expected. Any thunderstorm could bring down a
stronger wind gust.

Rain quickly ends southwest to northeast Thursday night as the low
exits into the Canadian Maritimes. The region averages a widespread
1.5-2.5 inches by this time, with some locally higher amounts.
Temperatures will rise to the upper 50s/lower 60s
this afternoon.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Winds pick up again on Friday from the west as the low deepens
as it tracks north. It's possible winds could be slightly
stronger than forecast Friday afternoon, and a wind advisory may
be needed for this period.

On Saturday, there will still be a fairly steep pressure
gradient between the departing strong low pressure over the
Maritimes and building high pressure from the west. Gusts 25-30
appear likely with a few gusts as high as 35 mph close to the
coast. The gradient begins relaxing in the afternoon based on
the latest guidance allowing low level winds to weaken. Winds
and gusts should start decreasing in the afternoon with any
lingering gusts ending after sunset.

Temperatures fall back into the 50s everywhere on Friday.
Temperatures will be close to seasonal into Saturday.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
High pressure then settles over the area on Sunday and will
start shifting south and east of the area on Monday. LIkely dry
on Monday as the latest model consensus takes southern stream
energy well south off the east coast. The latest NBM has low
probabilities leading toward mainly dry conditions for late
Monday into Tuesday. Northern stream energy should still send a
cold front across on Tuesday, with potential of high pressure
returning next Wednesday. This will reinforce seasonably
cool conditions.

.AVIATION /18Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A frontal system will move across the area this afternoon and
evneing, then lift north of the region tonight into Friday.

IFR in rain. The rain will be heavy at times this
afternoon/early this evening with isolated thunderstorms across
northeastern New Jersey, NYC and into the lower Hudson Valley.
Conditions improve back to MVFR during this evening, especially
west, and later to the east.

Wind are close to 25kt, with gusts 35-40 kt. There is a chance
that a few gusts could exceed 40kt late afternoon into the
early evening, mainly right along the coast. LLWS remains
possible through late afternoon and early evening with 2000ft
winds 45-55kt.

Winds diminish this evening with gusts becoming more occasional
or briefly ending for a period. Winds become SW to W tonight
with gusts 25-30kt. Timing of the diminishing and shifting winds
is uncertain and depends on the timing and track of low
pressure over the terminals. Winds increase further on Friday
mid to late morning into the evening with gusts between
30-40kt.

 ...NY Metro (KEWR/KLGA/KJFK/KTEB) TAF Uncertainty...

Amendments for timing and changing flight categories through this
evening.

Gusts may be occasionally higher than forecast, especially at
the coastal terminals. LLWS may end a couple of hours earlier
than forecast. Isolated thunderstorms are possible 18Z to
23z. Timing of diminishing winds, and then shifting to SW and
becoming gusty again is uncertain, and depends on the track of
low pressure.

.OUTLOOK FOR 18Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY...

Friday afternoon: VFR. W winds 15-25kt, G30-40kt, highest along
the coast.

Saturday: VFR. W winds G20-30kt.

Sunday: VFR.

Monday: VFR early. Chance of MVFR late. Showers possible late in
the day into Monday night.

Tuesday: MVFR early, then improvement back to VFR.

.MARINE...
Winds increase further this morning as a frontal system approaches
from the southwest. As a result, there is a Gale Warning on the
ocean waters, as well as the NY Harbor and the Long Island south
shore back bays through Thursday night, with gusts 35-40 kt. A
few gusts up to 35 kt possible this afternoon and early evening on
the Sound as well.

Hoisted a Gale Watch on all non ocean waters on Fri, with gusty
W winds developing, which likely persist into Fri night.

Gales could persist into Sat afternoon on the ocean waters,
otherwise winds will begin diminishing through the day, with
SCA conditions into the evening. Winds subside below SCA levels
Sat evening and should remain below until potentially late day
Mon or Mon night. Ocean seas may not subside below 5 ft until
early Sunday morning. The next chance of seas above 5 ft seas on
the ocean occurs late Mon into Tue night.

.HYDROLOGY...
Widespread rainfall of 1.5-2.5 inches expected through tonight.
Rainfall rates could briefly approach or exceed 1 inch per
hour, and this may lead to nuisance flooding in urbanized and
poor drainage areas, especially this afternoon and evening.
The flash flood risk is low and localized.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
An increasing onshore flow through today will increase surge and
bring minor coastal flooding with this afternoon and evening
high tide cycles. The most vulnerable locations across the Lower
NY Harbor, south shore back bays, western Great South Bay, and
western Sound (southern Fairfield, and Southern Westchester) are
expected to exceed minor flooding benchmarks. There is also a
chance that a few of the most vulnerable locations (Freeport and
Lindenhurst) could just touch moderate benchmarks. A coastal
flood advisory has been issued for these locations.

At coastal Bronx,and the north and south forks of Long Island
may just touch minor flooding benchmarks, and a coastal flood
statement remains in effect for these areas.

Winds will shift to the W-WSW tonight allowing water levels to
begin subsiding into Friday morning. Despite the wind shift,
water levels may not subside enough to prevent minor coastal
flood benchmarks from being met along the Great South Bay before
the Friday morning high tide. Additional statements or an
advisory may needed, but confidence is not high enough at this
time.

Breaking waves of 5-7 ft along the oceanfront will result in
beach erosion flooding around the times of high tide, with minor
damage possible to dune structures.
