What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this small craft advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Milwaukee, WI wrote its last area forecast discussion before this small craft advisory went out at Feb 15, 4:06 AM CST, 5 hours 41 minutes earlier. Its key messages:

  • Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected through the day today, this the Winter Weather Advisory has been extended until 6 pm.
  • More light accumulating is likely tonight into Sunday morning, with the best chance near the lake due to potential lake enhancement.
  • A lengthy period of much colder conditions, with bitterly cold wind chills at times, is expected Sunday night through at least mid-week.

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected
through the day today, this the Winter Weather Advisory has
  been extended until 6 pm.

- More light accumulating is likely tonight into Sunday morning,
with the best chance near the lake due to potential lake
  enhancement.

- A lengthy period of much colder conditions, with bitterly cold
wind chills at times, is expected Sunday night through at
  least mid-week.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
Issued 405 AM CST Sat Feb 15 2025

Today through Sunday:

Periods of accumulating snow will continue today into early
Sunday, as a trough of low pressure gradually swings through
the area. There will be multiple impulses within this trough
that will bring the rounds of snow. The next round will be
moving in from the southwest early this morning and will
continue through much of the day. Extended the Winter Weather
Advisory until 6 pm today, for the potential of an additional 1
to 3 inches of snow as this next round of forcing moves through.
Some uncertainty remains with where exactly the bands will set
up, so kept the advisory going for all counties.

More snow will be possible tonight into early Sunday as broad
scale weak forcing lingers, with some potential lake
enhancement/effect resulting in highest precip chances in the
east. Could see an additional 0.5"-1" of snow away from the lake
and potentially another 1"-3" for lakeshore areas.

DDV

&&

.LONG TERM...
Issued 405 AM CST Sat Feb 15 2025

Sunday night through Friday:

A much colder airmass will begin to move into the area Sunday
night, with sub zero low temps and wind chills -15 to -25
overnight into early Monday. Temps will be coldest Monday night
into early Tuesday, with lows in the teens below zero most
places and wind chills of -20 to -30. Well below normal temps
will persist through mid-week, with a slow recovery then
expected the second half of the week. Dry weather is likely through
next week, other than a small chance of snow late Wed into Wed
night.

DDV

&&

.AVIATION...
Issued 405 AM CST Sat Feb 15 2025

Periods of accumulating snow will continue today into early
Sunday, as a trough of low pressure gradually swings through
the area. The next round will be moving in from the southwest
early this morning and will continue through much of the day,
with the potential of an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow.
Ceilings and visibilites are expected to go back down as the
snow moves back in. Some uncertainty remains with where exactly
the bands will set up, so will monitor radar trends and adjust
the forecast as needed. Snow ratios today will likely be around
12-14 to 1.

DDV

&&

.MARINE...
Issued 405 AM CST Sat Feb 15 2025

Winds will become east to northeast today into tonight as
deepening low pressure travels from the southern Plains into
the Ohio River Valley. The Small Craft Advisory will wind down
this morning as waves gradually subside.

North to northwest winds may approach gale force Sunday into
Sunday evening as the low lifts into the northeast United States
and deepens even more. A Gale Watch has been issued for the open
waters for this period. A Small Craft Advisory will most likely
be needed. Freezing Spray, possibly heavy for a time, is also
expected (largely over the open waters) Sunday evening through
at least Monday night as a much colder airmass moves in.
