 days of severe weather and heavy rainfall are expected through
 Saturday.

-Seven day total rainfall amounts are in the 10 to 15 inch range
 along and north of I-40, with the heaviest amounts falling from
 Wednesday to Saturday.

-An Enhanced Risk of severe weather is present on Wednesday, a
 Slight Risk is in effect Thursday.

-A Moderate Risk of excessive rainfall is in effect Wednesday,
 Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

A dry, spring day is in store for the Mid-South as surface high
pressure slides northeast. High temperatures today will be in the
upper 60s to upper 70s, with the cooler temperatures expected across
the north. An upper level low will emerge from the northern Plains
this afternoon into evening. A warm front will impinge on the
area tonight, as return flow will begin increasing dewpoints. A
few WAA showers may occur in northeast Arkansas and northwest
Tennessee, but deterministic soundings show the column very dry
from 850mb and above. Mainly sprinkles to a trace are expected
with this activity.

Wednesday is when the pleasant spring time forecast, turns
unsettled. The aforementioned low will translate east with an
accompanied cold front. The pressure gradient ahead of this front
will tighten and windy impacts will begin to be felt in the early
hours of Wednesday morning. A Wind Advisory is likely to be issued
later today. The typical troublesome areas (northeast Arkansas, the
Missouri Bootheel, and northwest Tennessee) have a 20-40% chance of
wind gusts 55mph or higher with a localized maxima of 45% near
Blytheville, Arkansas. The rest of the area is very likely to see
wind gusts above 25mph. Sustained winds will be highest along and
west of the Mississippi River.

As the timing of warm frontal ascent and arrival of the attendant
cold front is well spaced out, this leaves ample time for a large,
open warm sector to develop. Temperatures are forecast to be in the
80s and nearing 90 degrees providing favorable instability. The most
favorable timing of instability and shear overlapping is late
Wednesday afternoon into the evening hours. As evening time
commences, the LLJ will intensify (60-70 kts) providing more severe
storm fuel. While we just had severe weather a few days ago, the
shear and helicity is much more concerning for this event. Curved
and very elongated hodographs raise high concerns for strong
tornadoes to occur. While the CAMs have the storm mode as widely
linear, embedded supercells or even anything ahead of the line could
turn tornadic quickly with such a primed environment. With such an
intense LLJ and lapse rates near 7 C/km, damaging winds and hail are
also looming threats.

While the severe weather threat will ease north of I-40 after
sunset, severe weather chances are still possible on Thursday.
Instability to the south of the front is still favorable of a strong
to severe thunderstorm. As this front remains parked, it will
provide enough lift and bursts of energy to be monitored for a few
rogue storms. This pattern will continue until the front clears the
area.

A heavy rainfall threat for four consecutive days will commence. The
aforementioned cold front responsible for the severe weather will
stall along the I-40 corridor. R-Climate (observed and re-analyzed
climatology) precipitable water values will approach and exceed the
99th percentile while M-Climate (model climatology) precipitable
water values are maxed out. Such high PWATs aided by training storms
will result in extreme rainfall production. The latest QPF forecast
paints a swath of 10-15 inches to fall from Wednesday to Saturday
evening along and north of I-40. To put this into perspective, 15
years ago to this date, a historic rainfall event occurred where
18.5" of rain fell in Brownsville, TN in no more than 48 hours.

While our current forecast could break several rainfall records
across the area, it is a bit more optimistic for it to be more
spread out than 48 hours. The culmination over the four days will
really put a strain on the ground's ability to absorb. At some
point, soils will become supersaturated and leave no option but to
reject all the additional rain as runoff. Flash flooding will emerge
as a primary concern with this extremely active pattern. Moderate
Risks of excessive rainfall are in effect for portions of the Mid-
South each day through the event. Significant river and areal
flooding are likely during this time as well. Convection along the
stalled frontal boundary could also skew amounts even higher and
ramp up the flooding threat even quicker.

The front is finally going to push southeast out of the Mid-South
and bring the wet and unsettled pattern to an end by Sunday night. A
reinforcing cold front will follow behind to dry us out, but cool
conditions will return with Monday and Tuesday morning lows forecast
to be in the upper 30s and 40s.

Wind will remain the primary concern through the TAF period. A
developing low level jet (LLJ) will present some compression
potential at MEM this evening, and LLWS at the other TAF sites.
This LLJ will bring an MVFR cloud deck that will partially mix out
and lift to a SCT/BKN VFR deck by middle to late morning Wednesday.

Corridor of TSRA will likely develop over AR after 18Z Wednesday.
Convective inhibition will likely limit TSRA chances at MEM until
beyond the valid TAF period. But a convective corridor will likely
develop over eastern AR by 21Z, sufficiently close to warrant
inclusion of PROB30 TSRA late Wednesday afternoon.
