.SYNOPSIS...01/901 AM.

A series of storm systems will move over the region into late
next week. Cool and cloudy weather will likely persist with
scattered rain showers possible today, then rain showers and low
elevation snow likely for Sunday and Monday. Another, potentially
stronger, storm is on tap for Wednesday into Thursday. Gusty
westerly winds are expected Sunday and Monday, and again Thursday.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-TUE)...01/155 PM.

Synoptically, a cut-off low with ~550 dam heights moved south of
our area overnight and it is expected to continue moved away from
us to the east. By later tonight a trough extending down the west
coast from a parent ~546 dam Low currently positioned west of
Washington State will start to bring some rain to the northern
portion of the CWA. Snow levels will drop to around 3500' as this
cold system moves through by Monday monring. COnditions will clear
on Tuesday as the area will briefly be under a pop up ridge, but
another trough will move through the area on Wednesday/Thursday.
Conditions should clear again for the weekend before another
system may arrive on Monday the 10th.

Still expecting cool and cloudy conditions today with a slight
(less than 20%) chance of isolated rain showers. There have been a
few sprinkles caught in rain gages - mostly in the LA Co
mountains. It is a complex cloud pattern over the region with a
mix of stratus along the coast and plenty of middle and high
clouds moving over the area as well. Some breaks in the
cloudiness might occur across some areas this afternoon and
evening, but the clouds will keep it cool.

The Sunday rain chances go over 50% shortly after
midnight along the Central Coast as the next storm system digs
south into the region. The cold air mass aloft with a 500 mb cold
pocket cooling to -30C will bring the potential for isolated
thunderstorms and gusty winds Sunday . SPC is still highlighting
the potential for non-severe thunderstorms across San Luis Obispo
and Santa Barbara Counties.

700 mb temperatures cool to between -9C and -10C and snow levels
could lower to between 3000 and 3500 feet, especially north of
Point Conception. Accumulating snow should occur above 4000 feet
and affect mountain roadways on Sunday night and Monday morning.
A winter weather advisory is possible between Sunday and Monday
as accumulating snowfall could combine with gusty winds.

With the cold air mass creating a tight pressure gradients across
the area, gusty west to northwest winds will develop across
portions of the area between Sunday afternoon and Monday. Several
wind advisories are already in place and will follow for the
mountains if there is not a winter weather advisory. An extended
period of gusty west to northwest winds are likely across the
Antelope Valley into Monday night and possibly Tuesday.

The area will be under a pop-up ridge on Tuesday which should
bring clearing and drying as well as lighter winds.

.LONG TERM (WED-SAT)...01/155 PM.

The latest forecast ensembles continue to suggest another storm
system moving into the region Wednesday/Thursday bringing more
widespread showers and possible isolated thunderstorms. There is
moderate confidence on that rough timing, but there is still a
large spread of precipitation amounts. This system seems to be
trending less strong. Models suggest a quarter to half inch across
the coast and valleys with up to a half to one inch of rainfall
in the foothills and mountains. Low snow levels are likely again.

A warming and drying trend is expected for next weekend as models
are indicating a moderate high pressure ridge developing across
the region. Temperatures expected to warm up several degrees with
some low 80s possible by next Saturday in the valleys.

Another trough will be approaching the coast on Monday with
another chance of rain. As a long-range outlook, the EC Ensemble
IVT suggests that there may be systems every couple of days in
days 9-15.

.AVIATION...01/1806Z.

At 17Z at KLAX, the marine layer was about 3100 ft deep. The top
of the inversion was around 4900 ft with a temperature of 11 C.

Moderate confidence in the 18Z TAFs. For the coast and vly
airfields, the timing of dissipation/onset of low clouds and
mostly MVFR conds may be off +/- 1 to 3 hours. There is a 30%
chance of showers later tonight and Sun morning. Strong and gusty
W winds will likely affect KPMD and KWJF late today thru Sun
morning.

KLAX...Moderate confidence in the 18Z TAF. Low clouds and MVFR
conds should affect the airfield much of the time thru early Sun
afternoon. The timing of dissipation/onset of the low clouds may
be off +/- 1 to 3 hours. There is a 30% chance of showers later
tonight and Sun morning. Gusty W winds will likely affect the
airfield Sun afternoon. An E wind component up to 6 kt is expected
about 11Z-15Z Sun.

KBUR...Moderate confidence in the 18Z TAF. Low clouds and MVFR
conds should affect the airfield much of the time thru Sun
morning. The timing of dissipation/onset of the low clouds may be
off +/- 1 to 3 hours. There is also a 30% chance of showers later
tonight and Sun morning.

.MARINE...01/132 PM.

For the outer waters, seas around Small Craft Advisory (SCA)
levels will likely continue thru late Mon night. Winds to SCA
levels across much of the outer waters expected through tonight
will possibly increase to GALE Force (60% chance) for the southern
and central outer waters (PZZ673/676) between Sunday afternoon
and Monday morning then continue thru later Monday night, while
the northern outer waters (PZZ670) remains at SCA levels. Winds
and/or seas will then be at SCA levels (50% chance) at times
Tuesday through Thursday night.

For the inner waters N of Pt. Sal, seas should reach SCA levels
this afternoon and remain at SCA levels thru late Monday night.
SCA level NW winds are likely (80% chance) for much of the time
thru Monday evening. There is a 30% chance of GALE force winds
Monday afternoon/eve. SCA conds are not expected late Monday
night thru Wednesday morning, then are possible (50% chance)
Wednesday afternoon thru Thursday night.

For the inner water S of Pt. Conception, SCA level wind can be
expected for the western Santa Barbara Channel this evening, then
increase again to SCA levels on Sunday morning and spread to the
southern inner waters. GALE force winds are possible (50% chance)
for all the inner waters Sunday afternoon through Monday night.
SCA conds are not expected Tuesday thru Wednesday morning, then
are possible (50% chance) Wednesday night thru Thursday night.

.BEACHES...01/905 AM.

Occasional high surf will be possible through tonight for west-
to-northwest facing beaches north of the Los Angeles-Ventura
County line. There is a moderate-to-high (30-50 percent) chance of
high surf redeveloping on Thursday at similar beaches. High surf
will continue along the Central Coast, especially west and
northwest facing beaches, through Monday afternoon.
