.KEY MESSAGES...

- Mild temperatures and higher dewpoints will filter inland across
  the forecast area through today with chances of rain between
  into early Sunday morning.

- A strong cold front will advect very cold weather across the
  area Sunday night with sub-freezing temperatures and wind
  chills in the teens.

- Milder weather slowly builds back into the forecast area through
  the middle of next week.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Monday night)

A robust cold front will move through the region tomorrow morning
bringing with it rain and an arctic cold air mass. Rainfall
totals will be below 1 inch. Thankfully the front will be offshore
before the cold air advection picks up with no chance for winter
precipitation. Winds behind the front will be around 20 mph from
the north and temperatures will plummet across the region. Sunday
night going into Monday morning will see temperatures 15 to 20
degrees below normal values and we could tie/break minimum
temperatures records. North of I-10 temperatures will be in the
low 20s but with the north winds the wind chill will be in the
teens. Along and south of I-10 we can expect temperatures to go
below freezing for a few hours with wind chill values near 20. A
Cold Weather Advisory will be in place along with a hard freeze
warning for central Louisiana. Make sure you stay warm and take
steps today to protect yourself, your pets, and your property.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday through Saturday)

The cold snap will be short lived as post frontal high pressure
will build to our east and will push warm marine air north.
Conditions will quickly become humid and warm as strong warm air
advection will cause dew points to rise into the 60s on Wednesday.
Temperatures will also rise with our highs reaching the 70s on
Wednesday as well. While temperatures won’t reach record highs we
will see high temps 10 degrees above normal for late December. Low
will similarly be on the high side and almost 15 degrees above
normal.

Rain chances will be low for most of the extended forecast
remaining below 20 percent.

Warm air and gulf moisture continue streaming north on breezy
south winds. Winds will drop in the next hour with the loss of
daytime heating. As a result, low cigs and areas of fog are
expected to develop in the anomalously moist airmass set into the
region.

Impacts to VIS will maximize through 2 AM. As showers overspread
the region from the north and west with an approaching front,
expect conditions to improve. Ceilings will remain low but any
dense fog will wash out with the rainfall. After 09z winds turn to
the northwest and large improvements in ceilings will take place
the rest of the forecast period.

Winds will strengthen during daytime hours and strong sustained
winds 15 to 25 kt with gusts to 30 kt are expected.
