...The National Weather Service in Indianapolis IN has issued a
Flood Warning for the following creek in Indiana...
Sugar Creek at New Palestine.
.Excessive rainfall from repeated rounds of showers and
thunderstorms, which will continue well into the weekend, is
bringing up water levels on waterways across Indiana, including
Sugar Creek. Flood stage was reached on the creek shortly before 6
PM Friday. The water level will continue to rise through the
evening and overnight hours. Moderate flooding is very possible.
Folks in the vicinity should keep aware of the flood waters as they
expand.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most flood related deaths
occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges,
dips, or low water crossings. Never try to cross a flowing stream,
even a small one, on foot. To escape rising water find another route
over higher ground.

...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in
Indiana...
East Fork White River at Williams, near Bedford, near Rivervale,
and at Shoals.
.Excessive rainfall from repeated rounds of showers and
thunderstorms, which will continue well into the weekend, is
bringing up water levels on waterways across Indiana. Significant
and some major flooding is expected to develop along the East Fork
White River. The crest on the East Fork should be in the Columbus
and Seymour areas Sunday evening into Monday and points downstream
thereafter.

* IMPACTS...At 15.0 feet, The river floods two of SR 46's 4 lanes
just west of Columbus. Southern Crossing flooded at this level in
June 2008. At least 10 homes in the Walesboro area began to flood
or had water near their homes in December 2013. The river reading
at Seymour was around 18.8 feet. Southern Crossing was closed by
high water.

extensively flooded on the left bank of the river bridge. One
county road on the left bank is totally submerged and another near
the hill is barely visible. The south bound lane on the right bank
of the river is barely passable, but once over the bridge it ends
in deep, fast flowing flood water. There is no Hindostan Falls,
just a very big river. Water near SR 550 just before turn off to
the Falls. One farmer must boat into his house.

Issued at 301 PM EDT Fri Apr 4 2025 Widespread heavy rain and thunderstorms expected tonight across most of Central Indiana resulting in a Flash Flood threat for some areas. .This evening through Tonight... A quasi-stationary low level boundary across Kentucky is expected to push northward into Central Indiana later tonight. The right entrance region of a 120 kt jet streak will induce a surface cyclogenesis along this front which is forecast to push northeastward through the state overnight. Strong warm air advection should be greatest in the 900-750mb layer this evening, pushing a elevated warm sector over the northern Ohio Valley. This isn't a true warm sector as the surface based boundary will lag behind, keeping mostly all the buoyancy above the surface layer. Tonight's Severe Weather Threat Forecast soundings from latest CAMs continue to indicate a strong low level inversion remaining in place just above the surface, keeping most of the convection tonight elevated...limiting the severe wind threat for most of Central Indiana. The surface boundary may make its way up to South Central Indiana along a line from Knox County to Jennings County, potentially working to eradicate the low level inversion locally leading to an atmospheric profile supportive of severe weather. Elongated, curved hodographs, CAPE above 1000 j/kg, and strong shear will be supportive of severe storms capable of producing damaging winds and hail. Likely storm mode will be linear with embedded supercells possible. CAMs shows convection developing this evening on the nose of a strengthening 50 kt low level jet and along the elongated surface low stretching from Eastern MO, Central IL, and into Northern IN. Will have to watch surface observations careful to determine where storms become surface based. Highest confidence in any severe weather exists along and south of the aforementioned boundary from Knox County to Jennings County from around 10 PM EDT to 3 AM EDT. Further north through Central Indiana, given the strengthening low level jet, strong buoyancy above the surface inversion and shallowness of the surface inversion... isolated severe wind gusts within wet microbursts and/or more organized clusters will be possible. These steep mid level lapse rates will also allow for an isolated severe hail threat within the stronger updrafts tonight. However the best threat for any severe weather will still be across Southern Indiana. Flash Flooding Threat Further north across most of Central and North Central Indiana, convection will likely remain elevated with a limited severe weather threat, but a high Flash Flooding threat. The more prolific rainfall is expected to arrive shortly after sundown this evening as the LLJ strengthens and pushes highly anomalous moisture over the quasi-stationary boundary south of the area and into Central Indiana. Strong isentropic lift along with a deep CAPE profile should allow for very efficient rainfall processes with average rainfall rates around 1-2"/6hr. Latest CAMs guidance today has been consistently indicating a SW-NE boundary developing along or just north of the I-70 corridor this evening, where repeated rounds of thunderstorms may ride along and produce a localized flash flood threat. This area may only be a county or two wide, so pin pointing exactly where this sets up is difficult as a shift in as little as 10-20 miles can mean significant changes in impacts (widespread flooding in Indy Metro vs little to none). Confidence is increasing in a Flash Flood threat along and north of the I-70 corridor, including the Indy Metro down to Terre Haute. Will provide multiple updates through the evening as confidence grows on exactly where this boundary and greatest risk for flash flooding sets up. Timing for this threat begins around sunset and persists toward midnight to 2 AM EDT before storms begin to shift east. Within this narrow band, the mid and upper level environment is conducive for elevated thunderstorms and supercells capable of producing very efficient rainfall rates of up to 1-2" per hour. MUCAPE nearing 1000 j/kg, a strengthening low and mid level jet, strong lift, and deep saturation all increase confidence that these storms can produce torrential rainfall and Flash Flooding. This narrow swath could receive 2-4+ inches of rain just tonight. Further south of this boundary, storms should be oriented more SSW to NNE rather than W to E within the narrow band mentioned above... leading to a lesser threat of flooding as storms will have more of an eastward movement in these areas and less time to train over the same areas. Not to say flooding won't happen further south, as any storm tonight will be in an environment conducive for torrential rainfall and will move over areas already saturated from heavy rain the past few days. Expect rain and storms to push eastward across the state after sunset and persist into the overnight hours. A brief break in the rain is expected behind this round of convection during the early to mid morning hours. The boundary where heavy rainfall will be focused along pushes south toward the Ohio River; however another wave will increase rainfall over much of Central and South Central Indiana during the day Saturday...leading to additional flooding threats. && .LONG TERM (Saturday night through Friday)... Issued at 301 PM EDT Fri Apr 4 2025 Our primary concerns in the long range are residual river flooding from heavy rainfall this week and weekend, as well as potential for frost and freeze conditions through midweek. The ongoing heavy rain event is expected to be winding down Saturday night into Sunday. Showers likely persist into Sunday as a pocket of upper-level energy swings through. Cold air advection behind Saturday's wave of rain could bring about a cold enough air mass for snow to mix in at times on Sunday. This seems like a low-probability scenario for now, as temperatures through the boundary layer are marginal. If snow were to occur, little in the way of accumulations are expected since the ground is warm and surface temperatures will be above freezing. Colder air settles in early next week as troughing takes hold aloft (see frost section below for more details). A secondary cold front on Monday may bring a rather sharp drop in temperatures during the afternoon, as well as a slight chance for some rain/graupel showers and gusty winds. Relatively quiet weather then follows through Wednesday before another system begins to take shape on Thursday. Return flow ahead of this system should bring gradually warmer weather back by week's end. RIVER FLOODING With precipitation all set and done by Monday, our attention turns to river flooding. Extensive river flooding is likely as much of the area will have seen between 4 to 7 inches of rain (event total), with locally higher amounts. River basins such as the White and East Fork White have had the most precipitation so far, and thus have the highest likelihood of moderate to major flooding. Lesser amounts have fallen across the Wabash basin, but heavy rainfall is possible there tonight. Magnitude of flooding along the Wabash will depend on how much precipitation falls overnight. Smaller creeks and streams will hit their crests earlier than the main stems, and may be already on the down trend by early next week. FROST FREEZE Though less impactful than all the weather we have seen recently, the potential for cold temperatures still needs to be addressed since the growing season is beginning. Ensemble guidance shows a deep trough dropping southward out of Canada on Sunday as our current weather system departs. Mean 850mb temps are as low as -10C, which is as much as 2 sigma below the mean (roughly 10-12C below normal). High pressure at the surface will be in place Monday night through Wednesday night. Ideal radiative cooling conditions should be present with light winds and mainly clear skies. Most guidance brings low temperatures into the 20s Monday night and Tuesday night. Days 8-14: A return to northwesterly flow aloft is shown by ensemble guidance. Such a pattern favors relatively quiet weather along with cooler than average temperatures. && .AVIATION (18Z TAF Issuance)... Issued at 1235 PM EDT Fri Apr 4 2025 Impacts: - VFR conditions expected to deteriorate to MVFR or worse this period - Rain arrives this afternoon with isolated thunderstorms. - More TSRA overnight; IFR VIS within TSRA. Discussion: Rain showers over southern IL and southern Indiana associated with a warm front will surge northward this afternoon, bringing precipitation and a return to MVFR or worse conditions to the TAF sites. MVFR to IFR Cigs are expected through the evening and overnight hours as the warm front settles across Central Indiana. Another round of showers and storms will be expected overnight as another upper level weather disturbance passes across Indiana. Thunderstorms will be a bit more likely with this round as forecast soundings show some elevated instability. Some of these storms may produce heavy rain. Used a time window with tempo periods for this in the TAFs. Another brief dry spell is expected early Saturday morning as the wave departs, however isolated stray light showers cannot be ruled out.
