- A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Wednesday and Wednesday
  night from about Jacksonville to Bloomington northward, with
  chances of at least 6 inches of snow around 60% near and
  northwest of the Illinois River.

- A mixture of freezing rain and snow is likely over portions of
  east central Illinois on Wednesday, causing some light ice
  accumulations.

- Another storm system will start off the upcoming weekend, with a
  mixture of rain and snow likely.

Issued at 800 PM CST Mon Feb 10 2025

8pm radar imagery shows some weak returns inching towards the
I-72 corridor: however, 00Z ILX sounding shows very dry air still
in place below around 9000 feet. This matches area obs which show
cloud bases generally between 7k-10kft. With this in mind, does
not appear that any of these returns are likely to reach the
surface, but if they do, it would only be a few flurries with no
impacts expected. Continued isentropic ascent across southern
Illinois overnight will eventually help to saturate the lower
levels mainly south of I-70 after midnight allowing light snow to
eventually materialize with a dusting possible through daybreak
Tuesday.

Main focus for this period remains with the shortwave approaching
from the southwest. Morning model suite has shifted a bit further
south with the overall precipitation axis with this feature, with
more of a southwest/northeast tilt to it. Thus, PoP's with this
forecast cycle are mainly near and south of I-70, with just a
dusting of snow. With the more subtle northern wave, not thinking
there will be much more than flurries this far south.

With more extensive cloud cover, temperatures will not be as cold
as last night, and highs Wednesday should be well into the 30s in
most areas.

Midweek winter storm system remains the primary focus, though one
during the weekend will have some minor impacts as well.

Afternoon water vapor imagery shows a well defined wave dropping
south along the British Columbia coast, and this will help dig the
upper trough over the southwest U.S. over the next 24 hours. This
will spur surface cyclogenesis across the southern Plains. An
expansive area of precipitation will spread across central and
southeast Illinois Wednesday morning, with deformation snow on the
back side lingering past midnight. Morning model trends have been
a bit wetter and also shifted a tad northwest with the heavier
snow axis. This also introduces a larger area over east central
Illinois where freezing rain or sleet will be a concern. Forecast
soundings off the NAM (though somewhat degraded due to data ingest
issues this morning) and GFS do not show an overwhelmingly strong
signal for freezing rain, but may be more supportive of sleet. In
terms of snow, probabilities of over 6 inches of snow are running
over 60% near and northwest of the Illinois River. Thus, a Winter
Storm Watch has been issued beginning Wednesday morning, generally

look to be during the afternoon hours. Will likely need an
advisory at some point southeast of there, but with more
uncertainty at this time, will hold off on that potential.

A quick shot of cold air will follow this system. However, the
upper flow quickly becomes more west/southwest again, bringing
milder air back into the region. Another storm system takes shape
Friday night. With the warmer pattern, a rain/snow mix will be
more of a concern Friday night and Saturday, before ending as a
period of light snow. Following that system, another cold surge
will close out the weekend.

moderate east to northeast breeze will develop across central

terminals, but expect increasing mid level clouds locally.
Guidance still hints at some potential for MVFR ceilings Tuesday,
