A Hydrologic Statement has been issued to address minor flooding potential due to ice jams and runoff from heavy rainfall through midweek. A Gale Watch has been posted for Lake Michigan Wednesday afternoon and night. A narrow band of light rain associated with WAA and mid-level frontogenetic forcing will continue to lift north through this evening. This band will shift northeast of the region by midnight. Coordinated the possibility of freezing rain in far northern WI with MQT, but opted to not include it, as low-level thicknesses support all rain and low temperatures remain a degree or two above freezing. Additional light precipitation will form overnight as an impressive surge of Gulf moisture arrives. Light rain continues on Tuesday, with more significant rain arriving in C/EC WI as a Colorado Low approaches late in the day. Cannot rule out a small chance of thunder as this stronger forcing and steep mid- level lapse rates arrive Tuesday afternoon and evening, but left out the mention at this time. Milder temperatures (highs in the low to mid 40s on Tuesday) could lead to potential ice jam flooding if ice breaks up on area rivers. The strong low pressure system will track toward southeast WI late Tuesday night, then Lake Huron on Wednesday. Heavy precipitation will develop as the deformation zone interacts with an anonamously moist air mass (PWATs of 0.7 to 0.9 inch - roughly 250-300 percent of normal Tuesday evening). Rain will change to snow over the northwest part of the forecast area Tuesday evening, with the rain/snow line gradually spreading southeast overnight into Monday. EFI/Shift of Tails point toward an extreme precipitation event regionwide, and possible extreme snowfall event in NC WI. Have issued a Winter Storm Watch over NC WI, where 4-10 inches of snow is expected. Snow will initially be very heavy/wet, which could lead to tree damage/power outages in the pine forests. Across the rest of the area, less snow is expected, but event total precipitation (mainly rain southeast) of 1 to 1.5 inches appears likely, as probabilities of 1+ inch are 90-100 percent over C/NE/EC WI. Strong N-NW winds will develop as CAA kicks in behind the departing low Wednesday afternoon/evening, with gusts to 35 to 45 mph expected inland, and a 70-90 percent chance of gale force gusts on Lake Michigan. Generally quiet weather returns for the remainder of the week, with temperatures averaging a little above normal.
