.SHORT TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...

Today...Expect a relatively tranquil day today with west northwest
flow aloft. Looks like adequate low and mid level moisture for
scattered orographic snow showers for our Snowy and Sierra Madre
Ranges. It will be breezy for Carbon and Albany Counties, though
definitely not as windy as yesterday. 700 mb temperatures near -8
Celsius will yield maximum temperatures from the upper 30s to near
50 degrees.
Tonight...Northwest flow aloft strengthens significantly, and our
local wind model shows the Craig to Casper 850/700 mb height
gradients increasing, along with 700 mb winds, thus winds expected
to approach or exceed high wind criteria after midnight for our wind
prone locations such as Arlington, Bordeaux, the I-80 Summit and
foothills, so we have begun a High Wind Watch for these areas after
midnight.
Sunday...As the flow aloft turns westerly, the low and mid level
gradients strengthen further, and our local wind models suggest
increasing probability for strong winds, while the Craig to Casper
850/700 mb height gradients in meters peak in the lower 70s with 700
mb winds approaching 50 to 60 knots, thus we have expanded the High
Wind Watch to include lower elevations such as Rawlins, Douglas,
Laramie, Wheatland and Cheyenne. With the strong winds, we will also
see mild temperatures with maximums in the upper 40s west of I-25,
and mid 50s to lower 60s east of I-25.
Sunday night...Although the mid level westerly flow aloft remains
strong, winds in the lower elevations may decrease somewhat due to
decoupling after midnight, so we will let the High Wind Watch end at
midnight for these locations, while the wind prone sites such as
Arlington, Bordeaux, the I-80 Summit and foothills continue with the
High Wind Watch through Monday afternoon. Stronger winds may return
to the southeast Wyoming lower elevations during the day on Monday.
Relatively mild overnight temperatures will occur due to the airmass
and low level winds and mixing.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...

Monday begins the long term at the end of a high wind event as
we see conditions finally calming through the day while
downsloping will continue to assist in warming the region with
highs in the 50's to 70's across the region making for a
noticeably warmer spring day then what we are seeing this
weekend. But this warmth will likely come at a price - the lack
of present moisture will bottom out our RH values in
Southeastern Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle in the mid to
low teens. And this combined with gusty winds in the 20-40 mph
range is expected to produce near to critical fire weather
concerns for these areas.
But by the evening precipitation ahead of a front will begin to
overspread, with rain quickly transitioning to snow as
temperatures plummet under the cooler air mass. This will make
Tuesday a wintry and snowy day, with the NBM presenting a 30-70%
probability of accumulations of 2+ inches for most of our CWA
outside of the mountains where much more snowfall is
anticipated, in excess of 10 inches for both the Snowy and
Sierra-Madre Ranges. And with gusty winds expected with the NBM
showing a 50-80% probability of gusts 30-40+ mph, expect blowing
snow to be a concern including periods of limited to below a
mile visibility.
Low pressure associated with this system departs into Wednesday
with a transient ridge moving into our area, though expect a few
lingering mountain snow-showers on Wednesday from favorable
upslope flow despite the waning moisture and lack of forcing.
Cooler and much more winter-like temperatures will persist on
Wednesday with highs in the 30's to 40's, but by Thursday we
should see the 40's to 50's briefly return before another fast
moving system pauses that warming trend with another quick shot
of cooler air alongside a few showers before warming returns
into Friday and the weekend.

The conditions will be bouncing at KRWL due to the snowfall and
wind. Snowfall is expected to cease around 20z and should be
within VFR conditions. However, depending on how much blowable
snow is on the ground visibilities could be reduced to MVFR/IFR
conditions. Mountain wave activity is going to increase tonight
into tomorrow for all terminals. Winds are expected to increase
for the Nebraska terminals late tomorrow morning. The Wyoming
terminals will likely gust through the night tonight.
