.SHORT TERM /THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...

An active short term is on ongoing as we see widespread gusty
winds and winter weather overspreading the region, with bitter
arctic air expected to bring a significant decline to our
temperatures to start the work week.

For this afternoon and tonight: High winds continue across the
I-80 corridor from Rawlins through Arlington, with high wind
warnings in effect through 8 PM this evening. Favorable 700mb
jet with values continuing to peak around 50-55 knots and
strong downward omega values should continue to fuel this risk
through the evening alongside a risk for limited visibilities
from any falling or blowing snow. On the note of snow and winter
weather, Winter Storm Warnings for the Sierra-Madre/Snowy
ranges for 1 to 2 feet of snow are ongoing, as well as a Winter
Weather Advisories for the Snowy Range Foothills and Northern
Laramie Range for several inches across these regions as well as
blowing snow through Monday afternoon. Finally, arctic air
begins to overspread as the cold front hangs up around the
Laramie Range, with anyone north and east of this feature
expected to see very cold temperatures with overnight lows into
the single digits to negatives, supported by temperatures of
around 10 to 20 below at 700mb alongside any snowpack that
establishes with the ongoing wintry precipitation. This will
bring apparent temperatures well into the negatives, with
portions Niobrara/Converse Counties as well as the northern
Nebraska Panhandle seeing feels like temperatures between -20 to
-30 degrees. This warranted Cold Weather Advisory for these
areas through Monday morning, though don't expect much daytime
relief as we move into Monday.

For Monday: As winter weather highlights subside for south-
central Wyoming, Winter Weather Advisories continue for the
Nebraska Panhandle as well as Goshen, Niobrara, and eastern
Platte counties through Tuesday evening for periods of light to
occasionally moderate snowfall. Ensembles indicate that overall
QPF amounts will remain light, but with such cold temperatures
through the mid to upper layers fueling snow ratios of 12-18
inches/1 in liquid equivalent, even these light amounts will
still allow for several inches of snow to fall over a long
duration period. Some locations such as near Chadron may even
see total accumulations of 6 or 7 inches by the time this event
has ended, but the idea here is that with such light and fluffy
snowfall over such a long period, a Winter Weather Advisory
better conveys the risk, and generally light to occasionally
breezy winds will limit the amount of blowing and drifting snow
for the area. But highs will only peak into the single digits to
teens for these areas as well, and overnight lows will descend
into the negative single to double digits. This will bring
ambient temperatures to 25 to 35 below zero, warranting an
Extreme Cold Watch for these areas, lasting through Thursday
morning. Although temperatures will rise during daytime hours
each day through Thursday morning, evening and overnight lows
once again descend and widespread bitter cold will be prevalent,
promoting the need to err on the side of caution with the
watch. Some areas may only need a Cold Weather Advisory, while
others may only need one to possibly two nights of Extreme Cold
Warnings with Cold Weather Advisories to supplement the other
less bitter evenings. Bundle up everyone!

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...

Temperatures

Tuesday through Thursday, An arctic airmass resides over the Rocky
Mountains and High Plains as a low pressure system pushes east over
the great lakes and a strong surface high drops into the Northern
Plains. This will produce an Arctic front that will slowly makes its
way south into Colorado. Model guidance has some discrepancies with
how this front will move through Southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska
Panhandle. However, majority depict the front getting caught up on
the Laramie Range and pinwheeling south through Southeastern
Wyoming. When this happens there is a drastic temperature difference
as it moves through Monday into Tuesday. After the front pushes
through Tuesday morning, the drastic temperature difference will be
along I-25. Areas east of I-25 can expect high temperatures to in
the teens to single digits while the West side of I-25 like Laramie
and Rawlins will remain in the 20's and 30's.

Thursday and Friday, temperatures are a little uncertain as some
models disagree on the timing of when the arctic airmass starts to
peel off eastward and begin our warming trend. The Euro starts to
peel off the arctic air during Wednesday afternoon and the GFS and
Canadian are a little less progressive and dont start until
Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. The reason being the
Euro brings in a low pressure system into the Pacific NW a little
bit faster than the other global models. How fast we switch from a
north-northwesterly flow to a westerly flow will dictate how fast
the area warms up due downsloping. Going into the weekend we enter
another warm but windy pattern as temperatures look to be in the
40's and 50's.

Snow

The Tuesday through Friday period also consist an extended period of
light snow across the southeast Wyoming Panhandle. A stream of
vorticity will help lift the water vapor to start the snow
production Tuesday. A stalled frontal boundary may allow light snow
accumulations to focus more on the Wyoming side than the Nebraska
side tuesday night into Wednesday. There looks to be a break in snow
production as another quick burst of dry air pushes south. However,
models show another plume of moisture with some weak isentropic lift
move into the region again around Wednesday evening. So snow
production will likely halt midday Wednesday and start back up again
in the evening or overnight period. This plume of moisture looks to
reside over our forecast through Thursday evening before another
burst of dry air overtakes the region and ceases the snow
production.  The last system of this train will be a weak stream of
vorticity moving through sometime Friday, but models are split on
whether this will track to the east and produce little impact to our
area, or slightly further west bringing another chance for light
snow (mainly in the mountains).

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z TUESDAY/...

West flow aloft will continue, while an Arctic cold front lines
up along a Douglas to Kimball line.

Wyoming TAFS...Ceilings will range from 3500 to 9000 feet, with
occasional light snow at Rawlins until 09Z, reducing
visibilities to 4 miles and ceilings to 1800 feet. Winds will
gust to 37 knots at Rawlins and Laramie until 00Z, and gust to
22 knots at Cheyenne from 16Z to 00Z.

Nebraska TAFS...Ceilings will range from 2500 to 6000 feet until
00Z, with occasional light snow reducing visibilities to 1 to
6 miles and ceilings from 700 to 1800 feet until 09Z, then
ceilings will improve to 6000 to 9000 feet after 00Z. Winds will
remain 15 knots or less.
