.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure moving northeast across the Great Lakes will drag
a cold front east across the area today. High pressure builds
back in on Monday before departing to the east on Tuesday and
Wednesday. The next low pressure system impacts the region
Wednesday night into Thursday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
9:35 AM Update...
Biggest change to the forecast this morning was the introduction
of an Enhanced Risk in the SPC SWODY1. The severe threat is
primarily wind driven with a secondary threat of brief tornadoes
given the low CAPE/high shear environment. A broken line of
convection extending along a line from Fremont to Tiffin to
Upper Sandusky ahead of the surface cold front is expected to
gradually evolve into a convective line as the cold front pushes
east through the day today. Highest threat for severe weather
remains across much of western Pennsylvania and extreme eastern
zones in eastern Ohio. The cold front should exit the local area
by late this evening (roughly 2-4 PM) with the severe threat
likely dwindling within that timeframe.

Outside of thunderstorms, gusty synoptic winds ahead of the cold
front will continue through late this morning and early this
afternoon. Wind headlines remain in place for much of the
central and eastern portions of the forecast area. Peak wind
gusts this morning generally in the 40-45 MPH range with
isolated 50-55+ MPH gusts possible in downsloping winds across
Northwest Pennsylvania. As the cold front exits to the east this
afternoon and early evening, westerly winds and gusts should
diminish.

Previous discussion...
Looking at the broader picture, a larger upper-level trough is
located just to our west with a surface low located over
Indiana. This low will move northeastward along a cold, bringing
that cold front eastward as the low moves into Ontario this
afternoon.

Radar reflectivity reveals rain encompassing most of the area,
although we are starting to see a few breaks develop in the
western part of the forecast area as a dry slot (visible in
water vapor satellite imagery) moves in. Should continue to see
rain scatter out further this morning as the dry slot pushes
eastward.

A very intense low-level jet persists overhead within the warm
sector, with 50-70 knots of flow at around 850mb. This hasn't
transferred to the surface very well in a stratified and rain-
cooled airmass the past few hours, but we should start seeing
some stronger wind gusts with that dry slot (as evident by 35
knots at KFDY and 40 knots at KMNN). Strongest wind gusts are
expected to be in Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania and
especially in northern Erie PA where downsloping southeast winds
could gust to 50+ knots later this morning with the best
potential between 12-15Z. This is where the Wind Advisory was
upgraded to a High Wind Warning. The rest of the wind advisory
remains unchanged.

Within the warm sector, a ribbon of weak instability is expected
to develop this morning and afternoon. This is nearly collocated
with where we are observing the dry slot. As this instability
further develops and forcing/lift increasing due to the
approaching trough and cold front, additional convection should
develop after 11-13Z, moving east across most of the area
through about 17Z. Generally expecting most convection to come
in the form of a linear convective mode with weak updrafts,
although a few of the latest CAMs have a few weak updraft
helicity tracks with some more discrete cells, suggesting the
potential for a couple more robust updrafts despite the
relatively marginal instability. This is most likely to occur
along and east of I-71, which is approximately where SPC has
upgraded to a slight risk. Naturally, the primary severe weather
hazard will be for damaging winds due the expected linear
convective mode and strong wind field, though there could also
be small hail, especially within any discrete cells due to the
relatively cool air aloft. A brief, isolated tornado could also
be possible, mainly towards the east (e.g. Youngstown-Erie PA
line and points east) where high 0-1km SRH better matches the
timing of convection.

As the cold front moves east across the area today, should see a
sharp wind shift to out of the west, with speeds quickly
diminishing. Will also see a sharp temperature drop with very
quick 10 degree temperature drop (within 1-2 hours as the front
crosses) followed by continuous cold air advection bringing
temperatures down to overnight lows in the upper 20s. Scattered
rain showers with wrap around moisture is expected to changeover
to snow, with some lake enhancement expected downwind of Lake
Erie in Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania late tonight
into early Monday morning. Should not be any impacts, although
there may be a dusting of snow on grassy and elevated surfaces
in a few spots in the snow belt region.

High pressure builds in on Monday, and although it will be a bit
chillier than the past few days, clearing skies from west to
east should allow for a good amount of sunshine during the
afternoon.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
A ridge of high pressure extending up the western side of the
Appalachians will be in control to start Monday night before exiting
east. Broad south-southwest deep-layer flow will be the story for
Tuesday and most of Wednesday ahead of low pressure taking shape
over the Plains and tracking towards the Great Lakes. This will lead
to dry, breezy, and warming conditions for Tuesday and much of
Wednesday. The low will lift through the Great Lakes Wednesday and
Thursday, pulling a strong cold front across the local area
Wednesday night. QPF should be on the lighter side and a lack of
substantial instability should preclude potential for thunder or
severe weather, despite impressive wind fields. That said, have
likely to categorical (70-90%) POPs area-wide, highest west, for the
Wednesday night period from west to east with the front as
confidence in much of the area seeing at least a bit of rain is high.

Outside of the eastern lakeshore where a lake breeze may push inland
a bit, highs on Tuesday will return well into the 60s. Highs on
Wednesday are expected to range from the upper 60s to lower 70s,
though given the time of year and 850mb temperatures of 7-10C there
may be a bit more upside, especially from roughly CLE-CAK points
east where the most sun should be found on Wednesday and where the
warmest temperatures aloft will be located. It will be breezy both
Tuesday and Wednesday, especially during the afternoon hours.
Wednesday will be the windiest day. If the GFS and Euro solution
featuring a stronger low pans out the potential for advisory-level
gusts on Wednesday will need to be evaluated...given both models
have 50-60kt 850mb winds at peak heating on Wednesday when low-level
mixing should be decently deep

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Our low pressure and front will be exiting northeast on Thursday,
though wrap-around precip courtesy of a low-mid level trough axis
and deformation zone is expected to work across the area on
Thursday. This precip will arrive as temperatures aloft quickly
cool, so have a rain/snow mix in for Thursday. Light precip amounts
and above-freezing surface temperatures should limit or prevent any
snow accumulation during the day. It gets just cold enough (850mb
temperatures of -10C to -13C) Thursday night into Friday morning for
a bit of a lake effect response amid northwest flow, before warm air
advection aloft quickly kicks in on Friday as ridging builds in from
the west. Given all of this am not looking for notable snow
accumulations, though higher elevations of the snowbelt may get
enough to measure at some point between late Thursday and early
Friday. High pressure will lead to quiet and dry weather Friday and
Friday night once any lake effect ends. The next shortwave and
associated low pressure arrives on Saturday, though is expected to
be weakening/shearing out as it enters the region. Even so, have
some chance POPs for rain showers returning to the forecast.
Temperatures will be cooler than average for Thursday and Friday
before beginning to moderate into the weekend.

.AVIATION /12Z Sunday THROUGH Thursday/...
Rain continues across the vast majority of the area, with the
primary prevailing flight category being VFR, although there
have been and will continue to be isolated instances of MVFR
visibilities and ceilings. Wind gusts have been widely variable,
though a corridor of 35-45 knot wind gusts have persisted from
KMNN-KMFD-KCLE-KERI. Areas east of I-71 may continue to see wind
gusts of 35-45 knots.

A separate line of showers and thunderstorms has developed in
the dry slot between near I-75 and will move northeast across
the area this morning and early this afternoon and move
eastward across the area through about 18Z. This line of storms
could also produce stronger winds, and brief IFR visibilities.

The cold front located over Indiana will move eastward across
the area between 12-17Z, with a sharp wind shift expected. Winds
will become west-southwest and weaken to 20-30 knot gusts.
Ceilings drop to MVFR immediately behind the cold front with
rain showers becoming more isolated. Scattered rain showers
return tonight with IFR ceilings developing downwind of Lake
Erie in Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania tonight. Winds
continue to shift to the west this evening and northwest by
tonight, weakening to around 10 knots tonight. Rain showers will
likely transition to snow showers after 05Z or so for the
snowbelt region with periodic non-VFR conditions.

Outlook...Non-VFR possible with rain Wednesday through Thursday.

.MARINE...
Another push of gusty south-southeast winds is expected this morning
ahead of a cold front, with that cold front then sweeping west to
east across the lake through this afternoon. South-southeast winds
will be 15-25kt for a few hours this morning, with gusts over 40kt
possible along the lakeshore northeast of Cleveland. Winds will
shift southwest and then west-northwest behind the front. There are
arguments against strong sustained winds behind the front despite
relatively deep (sub 990mb) low pressure lifting through the Great
Lakes and strong cold air advection. The cold lake should maintain a
near-surface temperature inversion through today, and the pressure
gradient/pressure rises are actually rather weak outside of a brief
period immediately with the frontal passage. Still, guidance
suggests 40-50kt of flow developing in the lowest 2k feet over the
eastern half of Lake Erie for a brief window right behind the front.
Too low confidence (and likely very brief duration) in any sort of a
sustained gale to go with a Gale Warning, but mariners should be
prepared for a brief, sudden window of strong and gusty winds along
and just behind the cold frontal passage this morning through mid
afternoon from west to east. If the idea materializes, we may use
shorter-fused Special Marine Warnings to cover the threat,
especially if any showers/thunder accompany the front. West-
northwest winds remain elevated through this evening before
subsiding overnight. Small Craft Advisories remain as posted, though
locations west of the islands may not see enough wind behind the
cold front to justify the headline and could get cancelled early
this morning once the risk for gusty south-southeast winds subsides.

The next notable weather maker will be a cold front crossing the
lake late Wednesday or Wednesday night, followed by cold/cyclonic
flow through Thursday night. The impression is that Small Craft
Advisories will likely be needed for that next system.

At 1109 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from Amherst to near Wellington to near Ashland to
near Loudonville to near Utica. Movement was northeast at 55 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects.

Cleveland, Lorain, Elyria, Medina, Wooster, Ashland, Mount Vernon,
