Light westerly winds this evening becoming more southerly
overnight tonight with mostly clear skies will help to wrap up
this weekend with fair weather conditions. Low temperatures
tonight will range from the mid 30s in the NW Panhandles to upper
30s to mid 40s for the remainder of the Panhandles.
Going into the day tomorrow, latest 16/12Z model and numerical
data shows a gradual shift from a broad H500 ridge into a
deepening trough as the system over northern California moves on
shore. This will help steepen height gradients further downstream
across the SW CONUS. The net force will result in breezy SW winds
and with low RH values, critical fire weather conditions are
expected tomorrow, with further details in the fire weather
section. High temperatures with downslope flow off the NM high
terrain into the Panhandles. High temperatures tomorrow will range
from the upper 70s to mid 80s.

The main progressing H500 trough moving southeast across the
central Rockies will reach the southern and central High Plains
Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night. Just south of the main
trough axis is where the Panhandles will be situated. Notable
height gradient and progressing height falls throughout the day
will result in a strong net resultant force of SW winds. For the
central and western Panhandles where there is a current High Wind
Watch, winds on Tuesday will be sustained 35-45 mph with gusts of
60-70 mph will be possible. A Pacific front should move east
across the Panhandles by Tuesday afternoon, and this lift from
the front, aided by H850-700/600 lapse rates > 7.5/8 C/km, this
will aid in prolific momentum transfer and turbulent eddy's. This
will result in a high chance of areal coverage of blowing dust
once again, especially the second half of the day on Tuesday.
Coupled with strong winds, confidence is increasing for the
potential of limited visibility due to strong SW winds and
blowing dust. We will also have critical fire weather conditions
on Tuesday due to strong winds and low RH values.
Tuesday night, for the northern Panhandles, as the main base of
the H500 trough axis moves east into Kansas as it will eventually
developed into a closed low by early Wednesday morning. If enough
moisture can advect on the backside of the departing system, the
northern Panhandles could see some rain showers and even a few
snow showers if temperatures behind the cold front can drop to
values to support snow showers. No significant precipitation
amounts are expected at this time, but we will watch trends
closely to see if precipitation lingers for a longer period of
time that currently expected. Low temperatures on Tuesday night
will range from the mid 20s in the NW to upper 30s in the SE TX
Panhandle.
Small amplitude sinusoidal weather pattern will continue
throughout the long term forecast period. Diurnally driven winds
will be common each day as mid level perturbation will graze the
Panhandles, keeping the area dry from Wednesday through the coming
weekend. After temperatures below average behind the front for
Wednesday, temperatures will then moderate to near to above
average once again from Thursday through to the end of the
long term forecast period.

All terminals continue to remain quite during this overnight
period with current conditions staying at VFR. However moving
into late tomorrow morning, many models see the start of a strong
upper-level jet that will bleed down to the surface creating
westerly winds of 20 to 35 kt to all the terminals. These winds
are likely to be at their strongest at the KDHT with potential for
blowing dust to present there during the afternoon and early
evening time frame. At this time, expectations are to not see a
flight category change during this period, but that may quickly
change depending of the origin source of the dust.

Critical fire weather conditions are expected for all of the
Panhandles tomorrow. 20 ft winds will be out of the SW of 20-30
mph with gusts to 40 mph with ma RFTI values ranging from 3 to 7.

to 90th percentile, which represent abundant dry fuels across most
