Thunderstorms have cleared out of the CWA earlier this evening and
no further precipitation is expected for the rest of the day.
Instead, fog and low clouds have started to develop in portions
of both the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandle. These hazards will
continue to spread across the region overnight. Visibility down to
a mile or less can be expected for most places tonight. A Dense
Fog Advisory will be needed since the probability for widespread
<1/4 mile visibility is high according to the latest CAM guidance.
Even satellite, surface observations, and social media photos are
confirming it's presence already. Impacts to travel are likely
and motorist should take cation when driving tonight. This foggy
conditions will last until the morning hours tomorrow when the
surface wind speed begin to start ramping up quickly. The fog will
then disperse from west to east.

As of this afternoon, in the latest radar and satellite we are
seeing, the initial band of precipitation associated with the
expected system push across the Panhandles. This initial band will
likely be mostly light to moderate rain showers with isolated to
scatter thunderstorms embedded inside the line. Base off the
latest CAMs, these embedded thunderstorms are not likely to push
near severe status with worse expectations being graupel and/or
small hail. Where severe concerns lie for today will be with the
potential of a secondary line forming behind this band late this
afternoon into early evening. Currently, the latest CAMs are bit
of a mix bag on this, as the idea heavily relies on potential for
enough moisture and instability being present behind the first
wave of storms to create a sharp enough pseudo dry line for
another round of thunderstorms to develop. The particular CAMs
runs that are entertaining the idea are mostly seeing this
development in the southeast with a couple of them seeing it more
along the state line or entirely in Western Oklahoma. However if
the center of the surface low holds back in our CWA,
simultaneously holding back the pseudo dry line with it, models
suggest around 500 to 1000 J/kg of MLCAPE will be available with
MUCAPE peaking at around 1500 J/kg in the southeast. This would
be enough to create severe wind gust and larger hail between 1 to
1.25 inches in diameter. Still, what continues to be concerning
is both the strong shear present and low LCL heights being seen in
the model soundings. The reason being is that the combination of
the two will make it slightly easier for even a marginal severe
storm to produce a quick spin-up or even a weak tornado. 18Z model
sounds support more than sufficient 0-1 km bulk shear and SRH.
0-3 km CAPE will be a contributing factor for tornado development
as well. If values could exceed 100 J/kg, essential tornadic
ingredients will be met for a short period of time. Then these
chances will cease once we reach the nightly hours with most CAMs
seeing the dry air slot of the system fully encompassing the
Panhandles by the time we reach 9 to 10 PM tonight.

Moving into Monday, we will see the Panhandles start phase two of
this active weather period. While no rain or thunderstorms are
planed for Monday. The combination of invading dry air and a very
strong upper and mid-level jet will see to meeting extreme fire
weather conditions for majority of the Panhandles. Currently,
latest model agreement is seeing both 500 to 700mb jet wind
speeds reach well above 50kt. With dry and warm conditions in
place tomorrow, these winds can easily bleed down to surface at
speeds of 35 to 40 mph sustained with gusts pushing into the 60
mph range, especially in the west where the jet will be more
prevalent. Given this capability a High Wind Watch has been issued
across the western most counties of the Panhandles. These winds
will also intensify what is already high potential for fire
weather with latest models calling for RH values under 10% for
that afternoon thanks to an incoming thermal ridge pushing in
behind the ongoing system. The only thing that may combat what is
looking to a high to extreme fire weather day is the current on
going rainfall from today's system, which has struggled to even
produced a quarter of an inch of rainfall for most locations in
combined Panhandle so far. Given this, a Fire Weather Watch has
been issued for all counties tomorrow.

Tuesday morning the low will strengthen and be positioned over
southwest KS. A strong back side jet out of the northwest will be
oriented from Cimarron County down through the Amarillo area, and
this will be occurring during peak heating and mixing. The strong
surface gradients support sustained winds now in the 40-50mph
range with gusts now having the potential to be as high as 75 mph.
The corridor of the strong jet streak is where we expect these
highest wind gusts. The northeast Panhandles could still easily
gust over 60 mph but it's possible that we just get sustained high
winds due to the gradients. Possible limiting factor for higher
gusts is that the strongest jet may not be over the east until
peak heating is done, and we don't mix as much. There's just a
little bit of moisture that may squeak out a few showers early in
the morning before the main push of wind. Very low chance (~5%)
that the OK Panhandle is just cold enough for the shower to be in
the form of light snow, and that window looks to be in the 1AM-5AM
time frame. No impacts expected due to snow. With these strong
winds, blowing dust will continue to be a concern. Some areas got
a little rain today, and that may help limit the blowing dust, but
given the drying conditions on Monday, wouldn't be surprised to
see some blowing dust.

Wednesday through Friday is pretty quiet, although breezy winds
and perhaps another round of Fire Weather will be on the table on
Thursday. But cool temperatures and light winds on Wednesday as
high pressure builds into the area. Thursday will be warm and
breezy with another system approaching. Friday will have a cold
front move through in the afternoon.

Dense fog has developed at DHT and GUY this evening and should
quickly spread to AMA for the start of the 06Z TAF period. LIFR
conditions should continue at all sites through most of the early
morning until sunrise. Fog will then dissipate as wind speeds
increase tomorrow afternoon. Very strong westerly winds will
overtake the TAF sites, where wind gust will easily exceed 40 kts
at all sites. This will last through the day time hours, and only
decrease slightly overnight. Towards the end of the period,
sustained wind speeds should still be between 20-25 kts.

A well stacked jet over the western Panhandle on Monday with a
LLTR in the southeast. Strong winds will have the potential to
mix down and support wind gust in the 45-55 mph range, but the RH
values look to fall below 10 percent. This will support extreme
Fire Weather conditions in the southwest Panhandles as RFTI's
will be in the 7 to 8 range with ERC's in the 25th percentile.
RFTI's of 4 to 7 in the central Panhandles. The eastern Panhandles
will have RFTI's, more in the 1 to 3. Fire Weather Watch
continues on Monday for the entire Panhandles, but the biggest
question is if the east will have critical Fire Weather, given the
lower RFTI's and the rain from today.

Tuesday's main issue is the high winds. There's really no RH
component as the south struggles to get an RH below 30. A few
areas across the southern Panhandles will have to be watched
closely as RFTI's of 2 to 4 will be possible. Will note, ongoing
fires certainly could be an issue, or any new starts could travel
quickly under the high winds, but the cooler temperatures and
higher RH values does give concerns as to just how likely a start
would be to occur. Arcing power lines is certainly something that
could be a concern for Tuesday given the high wind potential.
