.SYNOPSIS...
A mostly quiet pattern for the Interior this weekend into next
week with cooler than normal temperatures and isolated to
scattered rain showers. The West Coast will be a bit more active
with a low sitting in the Bering Sea bringing shower chances and
gusty southeast winds. The North Slope sees another round of snow
and wind today into tomorrow with blowing snow likely from
Deadhorse east.

.KEY WEATHER MESSAGES...
Central and Eastern Interior...
- Slight chance for a thunderstorm this afternoon around Eagle.

- Temperatures 5 to 10 degrees below normal today, then gradually
  warming closer to seasonal norms by Tuesday.

- Isolated to scattered showers today, diminishing tomorrow, then
  returning on Monday with a shower and storm chance on Tuesday.

West Coast and Western Interior...
- Isolated rain showers today with most spots drying tonight.

- Wind picks up tomorrow from the southeast with gusts to 45 mph
  over the Yukon-Kuskokwim coast. Numerous showers expected.

- Rain showers move north on Monday and will be near
  Kotzebue/Selawik during the afternoon.

- Slight chance of a thunderstorm in the Lower/Middle Yukon
  Valley on Tuesday.

North Slope and Brooks Range..
- Gusty east-northeast winds from Nuiqsut east with gusts of 40 to
  50 mph. Highest gusts to 50 mph expected in Kaktovik with
  blowing snow and visibility down to one-half mile or less
  expected this evening and tonight.

- Light snow with additional accumulations of 1 to 3 inches east
  of the Dalton Highway and around 1-2 inches along the coast.

- Well below normal temperatures continue this weekend and next
  week.

.FORECAST ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION...
A 518 decameter low digging south across the Northern Bering Sea.
There is a 524 decameter low moving across the North Slope along
with a highly anomalous 511 decameter low over the Canadian
Archipelago. Westerly flow persists over the Interior.

.FIRE WEATHER...
No real fire weather impacts are expected through Monday. The
only area for potential fire weather conditions will be near the
AK Range where winds will be gusting up to 40 mph from the south
through the Passes tomorrow night into Monday. Downsloping winds
will bring min RHs to the 20% range tomorrow afternoon in the
Tanana Valley and Yukon Flats. Otherwise, min RHs rise thereafter,
largely above 30 to 40%. Thunderstorms return in SW Alaska and
potentially the Interior hills Tuesday afternoon.

.HYDROLOGY...
The Yukon River at Stevens village is starting to crest and will
eventually come down, most likely next week. The Manley Slough is
beginning to crest as well but there are no concerns there
either. Otherwise, most rivers and creeks will continue their
downtrend into next week.

The only river of concern right now is the Sag River. We are
expecting about 0.10 to 0.20" of additional QPF through tonight at
the headwaters. Temperatures remain below normal through the week
so break-up is not expected quite yet. There are no major
concerns unless there is a rapid warm up which is not expected for
the next week.

.EXTENDED FORECAST DAYS 4-7...
A slow moving pattern develops next week with longwave troughing
over the state. There will be periods of brief ridging at times,
especially in the southern/southeastern Interior and this will
bring chances for storms. Otherwise expect to have near/below
normal temperatures and chances for rain showers. The North Slope
remains below average and wintry. The West Coast will keep
chances for rain showers and remain below normal as well.
