.SYNOPSIS...
Temperatures remain cold over the Interior with temperatures near
40 below, approaching 55 below in the Eastern Interior and Yukon
Flats. 20s and 30s below zero are expected in the Central and
Western Interior. Gusty southeast winds expected near Delta
Junction and over higher terrain through Sunday morning. Low Wind
chills are expected also. Southerly flow and warmer temps
expected next week with slight chances for snow for the Interior.

Central and Eastern Interior...
- Clear and cold weather continues through the weekend.
- Temperatures near 40 below over the Central Interior and 40 to
-55F possible over the E Interior.
- A Cold Weather Advisories are in effect for the E Interior
for cold temperatures and wind chills.
- A Tanana Valley Jet will continue into Saturday with
southeast winds gusts to 55 mph.
- Winter Weather Advisories are in effect along the Dalton and
the Steese Highwaysfor strong winds and blowing snow with
low visibility through Sunday morning.
- Warming up by Sunday and continued warm into next week. By
Monday high temps in the teens over the Central Interior and low
30s above in the Alaska Range. Gusty chinook winds ramp up in
the Alaska Range Sunday night into Monday. Warmer temps
expected on Tuesday. Snow chances increase for the N Interior
Monday into Tuesday.
West Coast and Western Interior...
- East to northeast winds increase this evening across the region,
resulting in localized cold wind chills around -40F in Interior
valleys.
- Along the coast, wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph expected from Nome
south Friday afternoon through the weekend, and 40 to 50 mph on St
Lawrence Island. Over the higher terrain, expect gusts up to 45
mph.
- Dry conditions persist through Saturday night. A chance of snow
returns for the Y-K Delta Sunday and Monday.
North Slope and Brooks Range...
- Very cold temperatures continue across the Arctic Plains with
temperatures falling into the 30 to 40 below range. Along the
coast, temperatures drop into the teens to 20s below.
- East to northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph persist through the
weekend from Utqiagvik east, while west of Utqiagvik winds of 20
to 30 mph are expected near Point Hope over the weekend,
becoming stronger on Monday.
Extended Forecast Days 4-7...
Cold weather persists through Sunday morning, then temperatures
will increase and be above normal south of the Brooks Range Mon
through Wednesday as southerly flow sets up over the Interior.
Chances for snow on Monday into Tuesday due to a warm front moving
over the Alaska Range, then a better shot for snow on Tuesday in
the Western Interior and N Interior.
Analysis and Forecast Confidence...
Strong upper high remains over E Russia on Friday then drift
Northward. Weak upper lows will develop over the the west coast
and south of the Aleutians. Very cold air at 850 mb will remain
in place on Saturday over the Interior. By Sunday, ridging and
southerly flow will set up over the Interior and continue into
early next week. The Pressure Gradient will remain tight over the
Middle part of the State and remain strong into early Sunday. The
strongest winds will be in the higher terrain with gusts up to 35
to 45 mph, especially along the Dalton Highway Summits. Low
pressure will strengthen in the Gulf of Alaska Sunday into Monday,
and southerly flow will develop aloft over the Interior bringing
warmer temps and increased chances for snow Monday and Tuesday.
