.SYNOPSIS...
A powerful chinook is expected to impact the eastern half of the
Interior and Alaska Range today into Monday where high wind
warnings and wind advisories remain in effect. Winter weather
impacts will also move across the W Interior where several winter
weather advisories and winter storm warnings remain in effect.

The storm moves north across the Brooks Range and will bring
blowing snow concerns to the Arctic Coast through Sunday night as
east winds increase to gale force. Cooler temps move across the

in for midweek with a return to briefly quiet and more seasonable

Key Messages and Weather Summaries:

Central and Eastern Interior...

- High wind warnings are in effect for AK Range and Delta Junction
with hurricane force south winds.
- Wind advisories are in effect for the S Interior for southeast
  winds to 40 mph, slightly higher near Eielson to Nenana.
- Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the southern
  portion of the E Alaska Range for moderate snow accumulations
  and south winds.
- Blowing snow advisories remain in effect for the Dalton Hwy and
  Steese Hwy Summits.
- Likely record high temps for many S Interior locations today
  including Fairbanks.

A chinook wind will blast across the Interior today as south winds
rip across the Alaska Range to hurricane force, with gusts as
high as 40 mph over the S Interior, including Fairbanks. Temps
likely push into the 40s for many S Interior locations, with 50s
possible near the AK Range and across the higher elevation hills
around Fairbanks. The record high of 39 is likely to fall for
Fairbanks.

A cold front shifts east Monday from the Bering Coast and will bring
more blustery southwest winds to the Interior, likely pushing into
the 30+ mph range with 40 mph gusts in the higher elevations.
Snow showers are possible Monday as the front shifts east. Cooler
air continues to move east Tue with a chance of snow for the SE
Interior and E Alaska Range, including Fairbanks. The best chance
for light accumulations up to a few inches will be from Delta
Junction to the ALCAN.

West Coast and Western Interior...

- Several winter weather advisories persist from Saint Lawrence
  Island to the Selawik Valley and Kotzebue Sound for blowing snow
  and snow, along with some mixed precipitation mixed in over the
  Yukon Delta and Lower Yukon.
- Winter storm warnings remain in effect for the S Seward
  Peninsula and Interior Seward Peninsula and higher elevation
  mountains for heavy snow and mixed precipitation possible along
  with gale force winds.
- Water over ice will be a concern over the Yukon Delta coast and
  up to Norton Sound across beaches/shoreline as the low shifts
  inland later today and Monday.
- Cooler and drier west winds develop for Tuesday as the storm
 system moves out of the region.

The deep low this morning is currently over Bristol Bay with snow
moving into the Yukon Delta, Lower Yukon Valley, and E Norton
Sound into the Seward Peninsula. The low will move to the Yk Delta
tonight then to Kotzebue Sound Monday morning and then into the
Chukchi Sea Tuesday morning. No change in thinking as near gale
force west winds wrap around into the YK Delta and Norton Sound as
the low shifts north. Snow will turn to rain or mix with rain from
E Norton Sound all the way down to the Yukon River/Delta, as well
as across the Kotzebue Sound. With ice in place, no major coastal
flooding concerns are expected, but there will be minor water over
and on ice near shorelines due to elevated water levels and
onshore winds. See SPS for more details.

North Slope and Brooks Range...

- Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for the W Arctic Coast
  to Utqiagvik for blowing snow Sunday.
- Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Atigun Pass and
  Anaktuvuk Pass for snow and blowing snow.
- Moderate snow accumulations 4 to 7 inches of snow over the W
  Brooks Range over 48 hours.

The deep low currently over the Bristol Bay area moves up to
Kotzebue Sound Monday morning and then into the Chukchi Sea Tue
morning. East winds reach peak intensity along the coast this
afternoon through tonight. South winds will move across the Brooks
Range and into the coastal areas on Monday night/Tue morning time-
frame. Snow showers and cooler air filter in Tue and Wed as an
arctic low moves over the region.

Forecast Discussion, Confidence, and Analysis...
The long awaited NPAC low is moving north into Bristol Bay this
morning with little to no change in forecast thinking. We have
made minimal changes to the forecast package overnight and all
advisories, warnings, and prior forecast messages remain pretty
much the same. Confidence is high in a strong chinook today and
winter weather conditions out west. Overall the models are in good
agreement with the track, timing, and strength of the storm as it
moves north along the West Coast and then northeast into the
Arctic. We favored a blend to Canadian Regional and the NAM nest
for wind details, gales up north over the Arctic.

Extended Forecast Days 4-7...
On Wednesday, there will be a trough extending over the S Mainland
into the Gulf of AK with a departing low over the E Arctic Coast.
Light snow showers will persist over and near the Brooks Range,
Arctic Coast, and Alaska Range before high pressure settles in and
cooler temps move across the Mainland Wed night and Thu. Models
are now in very good agreement that more storms will move into the
SW Mainland and West Coast and impact W Interior locations as
well, Friday and through the weekend. It honestly does not look
that different than the current pattern now, with warmer downslope
flow over the E Interior and snow mixed with some rain out west
as these storms will be originating from the North Pacific.

...Water and Ice along Beaches through Monday...

* WHAT...Southwest to west winds of 30 to 40 mph this afternoon
  through Monday will increase water levels up to 1 to 2 feet
  above the normal highest tide line.

* WHERE...Yukon Delta Coast and Norton Sound.

* IMPACTS...Water could push up through gaps in the ice and cause
  localized water over ice along the shoreline as strong onshore
  winds of 30 to 40 mph could also push pieces of sea ice up onto
  the shoreline.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There is low confidence in terms of how
  these winds will interact with the sea ice, tidal cycles, and
  just how much water may move over ice near the shore.

Residents should beware of local ponding of water along and near
the shore.
