What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this wind advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Las Vegas, NV wrote its last area forecast discussion before this wind advisory went out at Nov 4, 1:07 PM PST, 11 hours 39 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Nov 4, 1:07 PM PST, 11 hours 39 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
107 PM PST Mon Nov 4 2024

.SYNOPSIS...Gusty north winds within the lower Colorado River
Valley will gradually diminish tonight. Another system diving
through the Four Corner region will produce another round of gusty
north winds Tuesday night into Thursday. Well below-normal
temperatures will occur on Wednesday. As we head into the weekend,
calmer conditions and more seasonal temperatures return.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Through next Monday.

Strongest north wind gusts, approaching 40 mph continue to blast
down the lower Colorado River Valley early this afternoon. Guidance
shows winds will really start to diminish after 1 pm, but stay
elevated to some degree overnight. Will continue to evaluate
observations as we may be able to cancel the advisory early.

Area lies between systems tomorrow, although first signs of incoming
trough from the north will start to be felt across central Nevada in
the form of increasing north winds tomorrow afternoon. As this
trough digs just to our east those north winds will sweep south
through the rest of the southern Great Basin/Mojave Desert Tuesday
night. A wind advisory will likely be needed for the Lake Mead NRA
and lower CRV zones early Wednesday morning through early Thursday
morning. The advisory may also need to encompass southern Clark
County and the eastern zones of San Bernardino County. The north
winds will stay elevated through Thursday but should be sub-advisory.

With less wind tomorrow and a slight jump in temperatures it should
feel much better outdoors than today. Reinforcing shot of cold air
will arrive with the passage of the cold front Tuesday night making
highs 10-15 degrees colder Wednesday. As winds decrease Wednesday
night/Thursday morning there will be the potential for the first
freeze of the season for the valleys of southern Mohave,
southern/western Clark, southern Nye and northeast San Bernardino
Counties.

Lighter winds and moderating temperatures will occur Friday through
Sunday under weak ridge/zonal flow. Precipitation chances will start
to creep south toward the southern Sierra Nevada early next week
as another trough moves into the PacNW.

&&

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...Gusty northwest winds will persist
through mid afternoon before shifting slightly more north to
northeast later this afternoon. Gusts in the 20 to 30 knot range
will also persist. Lighter winds are expected after sunset and
reverting back to more typical daily patterns. Winds are expected to
start light and variable Tuesday morning with the potential of a
northwest push during the afternoon with gusts up to 20 knots. Skies
will remain mostly clear with increasing high clouds Tuesday
afternoon.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...AT KEED and KIFP will see gusty north winds exceeding
30-35 knots through the afternoon before diminishing to around 10
knots or less after sunset. Elsewhere, look for northwest to north
winds with gusts 20-30 knots into this evening with winds generally
dropping to 10 knots or less overnight. Lighter winds expected
Tuesday with most areas seeing winds 10 knots or less; however,
there is some indication that gusty northwest winds with gusts to
around 20 knots are possible across Esmeralda, Nye, and into Clark
County late afternoon.

&&

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
