.SYNOPSIS...Cold mornings will continue with a brief warming trend
Wednesday. Another storm system will bring a chance of valley rain
and mountain snow Thursday, with snow levels possibly lowering to
near some valley floors at times. Strong gusty winds are also
expected Thursday. Another widespread hard freeze that may include
Metro Tucson and some lower desert locations is possible Friday
morning. Temperatures will climb back to near seasonal averages
early next week.

.DISCUSSION...The 2 am surface temperatures were not as cold as
they were 24 hours ago as a band of high clouds are exiting the
area.

Enjoy today for Thursday will be quite different as a strong
weather system drops in from the northwest. This system is fairly
similar to what moved through on Sunday but may have stronger
winds associated with it. HREF/European ensembles are hitting the
eastern half of the forecast area with rather strong winds
associated with 50-60 kt 700 mb winds. Westerly winds 25 to 35 mph
with gusts to 45 mph with gusts possible as high as 55 mph in the
mountains. Will go ahead and hoist a wind advisory for most of
southeast Arizona Thursday from 11 am to 7 pm. Western and central
Pima county and South-central Pinal county not in advisory. Later
shifts may consider High wind Watch/Warning for parts of Cochise
county, like Sierra Vista/Huachuca mtns and the Chiricahua mtn.

Rain and snow will accompany this system with snow levels lowering
near the valley floors on Thursday. Winter Weather Advisory for
portions of the area remains in effect.

System is quickly east of the area Thursday night with hard freeze
possible Friday morning. Held off issuing any headlines with this
forecast package.

A weaker system will slide by mainly north of our area Sunday,
otherwise expect temperatures to warm back to typical mid-January
values over the weekend into early next week.

.AVIATION...Valid through 11/12Z.
FEW-SCT clouds AOA 20k ft AGL thru the forecast period. SFC wind 12
kts or less at most locations, favoring a SWLY to NWLY direction
during the afternoon/early evening hours and variable in direction
at other times. The exception will be in Cochise County in the
vicinity of KALK and KDUG where SFC wind between 10/19Z and 11/03Z
will be SWLY at 12-17 kts and gusts to around 25 kts. Although
outside of this valid period, the SFC wind between 11/18Z and 12/00Z
will be NWLY at 20-30 kts and gusts to 40+ knots. Aviation

.FIRE WEATHER...Dry and cold conditions will prevail through
today. A storm system will then move across the region on Thursday,
resulting in strong and gusty southwest winds, especially to the
east of Tucson. 20-foot winds will be northwest at 20-30 mph and
gusts to near 45 mph (50+ mph in the mountains). This system will
also bring rain and snow chances to southeast Arizona and continued
cold temperatures. High temperatures will warm back to near normal
levels over the weekend into early next week, along with dry
conditions.
