.SYNOPSIS...Moisture will be in place across the entire state
through Friday, resulting in the threat of showers and storms
areawide through Friday evening. Drier air will move in for the
weekend with increasing winds. Dry conditions with lighter winds
and gradually warming temperatures will greet us for early next
week.

.SHORT TERM (THROUGH 00Z MONDAY)...Another night, another weak
disturbance crossing the area. This wave will be on its way out of
the area this morning, with some lingering showers across the east
through the remainder of the morning hours. Similar to yesterday,
convection could end up being a bit suppressed for at least the
early part of this afternoon across the northern valleys and Wasatch
Mountains, although some CAMS do try to produce isolated convection
by midafternoon. Across the south, diurnal trends in convection can
once again be expected. Although drier air is starting to work its
way in from the southwest, ample moisture remains in place to
support convection. However, far southwest Utah could end up with
just mostly clear skies this afternoon.
Focus shifts to the next little disturbance that will ripple across
northern Utah this evening and overnight. Yes, another round of
nocturnal convection. Showers and thunderstorms associated with this
disturbance could get going by late afternoon across west-central
Utah, spreading into portions of northern Utah this evening. Not a
whole lot of agreement between the CAMs on the eventual track and
evolution of this convection, but this affects only the minute
details, not so much the general pattern and trends. With increasing
flow aloft associated with this disturbance, expect once again a
combination of CAPE/shear that is supportive of stronger storms late
this afternoon through this evening, with strong gusty winds being
the main threat.
The airmass will see a more significant drying trend on Saturday, but
not before one final shortwave disturbance ripples across northern
Utah. Expect convection on Saturday to be more confined to northern
and far eastern Utah as a result. Southwest winds will also increase
across the area on Saturday, especially southern and central Utah.
These winds, combined with rapidly lowering relative humidities will
likely result in critical fire weather conditions. By Sunday, the
drier air will overspread the entire region, with little chance for
precipitation. There remains a potential for critical fire weather
conditions across portions of southern and central Utah on Sunday,
but winds overall will be a bit weaker.
.LONG TERM (After 00Z Monday/6PM Sunday)...There is strong agreement
in a dry stretch of weather starting Sunday and continuing through
most of the week. For the end of the weekend, a broad, weak trough
will be positioned in the western U.S. That will keep a powerful
ridge to the southeast. With that synoptic set up, as what's likely
prior to that, gusty southwest winds are forecast. The pressure
gradient will be a bit weaker Sunday, so wind speeds and gusts will
be slightly lighter. Minimum relative humidity will be in the single
digits, so enhanced fire danger will continue. Temperatures will be
near normal, with low to mid 90s for most valleys.
Minimal change is likely Monday, as the broad trough will be in
place to the west. The ridge will likely build slightly to the
northwest, which would allow for slightly lower wind speeds and
gusts.
Ridging will build northwest Tuesday. That will allow for lighter
winds throughout southern Utah, with similar speeds from Monday for
southwest Wyoming and northern Utah.
The ridge will build into the Four Corners area Wednesday.
Precipitable water values will be slightly higher throughout
southern Utah, with an isolated shower or thunderstorm capable of
gusty, erratic outflow winds.
Models bring increased moisture late in the week as the ridge builds
more northwest, but with a lack of strong forcing, showers or
thunderstorms will be isolated and during the afternoon and evening.
Temperatures will increase to the mid to upper 90s for most valleys,
with lower Washington County around 105F Thursday and Friday.

.AVIATION...KSLC...South winds will transition to northwest around
18Z. Dry conditions will last into the afternoon, with scattered
rain showers and thunderstorms around 21Z. Showers or thunderstorms
will be capable of gusty, erratic outflow winds and heavy rain.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Rain showers and thunderstorms
will build around 20Z, tracking from southwest to northeast.
Throughout southern Utah, mainly dry conditions are likely, with an
isolated shower or thunderstorm from roughly 20-00Z. For southwest
Wyoming and northern Utah, showers and thunderstorms capable of
gusty, erratic winds and heavy rain will last through roughly 06Z.

.FIRE WEATHER...A moist airmass remains in place across much of the
area today, although drier air will start to move into southwest
Utah. Expect another day of scattered showers and thunderstorms,
with some of the stronger storms capable of producing wetting rain.
Another weather disturbance crossing into Utah tonight will maintain
showers and thunderstorms through the night across portions of
northern Utah. By Saturday, increasing southwest flow will bring
more significant drying to much of southern and central Utah where
afternoon relative humidities are expected to lower to 15% or below,
with relatively poor overnight recoveries. Meanwhile, isolated to
scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across northern
and portions of eastern Utah through Saturday evening before the dry
air overspreads the entire area, remaining in place through at least
the first half of next week. The increasing southwest winds on
Saturday will combine with the low humidities to result in critical
fire weather conditions across much of southern and central Utah.
Some areas will continue to see critical fire weather conditions
through Sunday and potentially beyond, although winds will be a bit
weaker compared to Saturday. Have maintained the Fire Weather Watch
in place due to the uncertainty of how widespread the critical fire
weather conditions will be on Sunday, but Saturday looks solid to
reach criteria.
