.SYNOPSIS...
Scattered showers will continue today with a slight chance of
thunderstorms for San Diego County this morning. A low pressure
system from the north will bring another round of more widespread
showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms tonight into early
Thursday with heavy snowfall in the mountains and moderate to
heavy rainfall for the coast and valleys. Then scattered showers
will continue through Friday and possibly into Saturday morning near
the mountains. Dry with a slow warming trend from Sunday through
the middle of next week, with high temperatures near seasonal
averages.

.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

This morning, widespread showers last night into this morning,
mainly in San Diego County. In the last 12 hours, most of the rain
has been in San Diego County west of the mountains. 12-hour totals
range from about two-tenths inch to one and two-thirds inch.
Scattered, locally heavy, showers will continue today with the
greatest coverage across San Diego County this morning. Another
round of more widespread showers with a slight chance of
thunderstorms is expected for tonight through early Thursday from
a low pressure system currently to the north. This will also
strengthen the onshore flow with stronger west winds for this
afternoon into Thursday morning. The stronger gusts will be in the
mountains, reaching 50 to 60 mph, 35 to 45 mph for the deserts,
and 25 to 35 mph for coastal areas. Winter Storm Warnings are in
effect for the mountains into Thursday morning with the heaviest
and most widespread snowfall expected tonight.

Snow levels have lowered in the cold air following the passage of
a trough axis. Snow levels are currently down to around 4000 ft
where accumulations have been observed even in San Diego County.
Additional snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches with 10 to 14
inches on the highest peaks.

Another weak low pressure system from the north could bring some
additional enhancement of showers for Thursday night and early
Friday.

A few showers may linger into Saturday, mainly near the mountains.
Then high pressure near the West Coast will bring drying and
warming with high temperatures returning to around average for the
middle of next week.

.AVIATION...
071635Z...Coast/Valleys/Mountains...BKN-OVC clouds with multiple
layers, bases from 2500-6000 feet MSL, locally down to 1000 feet
with reduced VIS 2-5SM in +RA/TSRA through 20Z. Areas of higher
terrain obscured. SHRA and lower cigs/vis will become less frequent
and intermittent scatter out is expected near the coast after 20Z.
RA and lower cigs/vis to move through the region after 02Z tonight
into early Thursday.

Deserts...SCT-BKN clouds with bases 6000-9000 feet MSL will continue
with isold SHRA and lower cigs to 4000 feet.

.MARINE...
There is a slight chance of thunderstorms this morning. Any
thunderstorm could produce gusty, erratic winds and lightning, along
with choppy seas. Brisk westerly winds gusting over 25 knots and
choppy seas are expected today through Thursday morning. Check the
Small Craft Advisory for details. No additional marine hazards are
expected Friday through Sunday.

.BEACHES...
There is a slight chance of thunderstorms and lightning strikes this
morning. Surf will be 3 to 6 feet with sets to 7 feet today through
Thursday. This will produce dangerous swimming and surfing
conditions, and may produce localized minor flooding and beach
erosion. Check the Beach Hazards Statement for details.

.HYDROLOGY...
Scattered showers will continue today from the coast to the
mountains with the greatest coverage across San Diego County where
isolated thunderstorms are also possible this morning. A low
pressure system from the north will bring another round of
organized and more widespread rain/showers with a slight chance
of thunderstorms for tonight and early Thursday.

Through Thursday morning, additional rainfall is expected to range
from one-half to three-quarters of an inch near the coast to 1.5
to 2.5 inches in the mountains with less than one-quarter inch
for the deserts.

The Flood Watch has been extended until 6 AM Thursday for the
coast to the mountains below the snow level of 4000 to 5000 feet.
The main threat is for tonight, especially for any areas where
training of cells with high-intensity rainfall occurs.

Scattered showers will continue for Thursday afternoon through
Friday and possible into Saturday morning near the mountains. For
Thursday afternoon through early Saturday, the greatest additional
rainfall is expected for San Diego County ranging from one-tenth
to one-third inch near the coast to one-half to three-quarters of
an inch in the mountains.

The San Diego River will remain near flood stage today with
continued flooding of low-water crossings. The water level will
drop a little this afternoon before rising again overnight to peak
at 10.2 feet around 10 am Thursday. Levels will eventually fall
below the level of the low-water crossings late Thursday or
Thursday night.
