.SYNOPSIS...
Dry conditions are expected this week with periods of strong Santa
Ana winds. Gusty north to northeast winds are expected to impact the
coastal mountain slopes, mountain foothills, valleys, and portions
of the coast Wednesday and Thursday. Below average temperatures are
expected for much of this week, with a gradual warming to near
normal for the weekend. Areas of frost are possible in the High
Desert Thursday and Friday morning.

SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...
Visible satellite this morning was showing mostly clear skies with
areas of high clouds moving northwest to southeast across the area.
High temperatures today are expected to be a few degrees cooler than
yesterday for areas along the immediate coast, a few degrees warmer
for the valleys and low desert, and 8 to 12 degrees warmer than
yesterday for the mountains and High Desert. The pressure gradient
from San Diego to Daggett has shifted back to weakly onshore from
the offshore gradient yesterday morning. Weak onshore flow is
expected to continue for much of today.
Winds will shift to the northeast by early Wednesday morning. A
period of strong Santa Ana winds is expected for Wednesday and
Thursday. Very dry conditions are expected to settle over Southern
California. Winds will be most impactful to Orange County, the
Inland Empire, and San Bernardino County mountains on Wednesay, with
the Riverside mountains, San Diego mountains, and portions of the
San Diego valleys becoming more prone to the gusty northeast winds
later in the day Wednesday into Thursday. Overall it looks like the
strongest winds will occur sometime Wednesday afternoon/evening into
Thursday morning. There is a potential for areas of gusty northeast
winds to make it to the coast. Orange County coastal areas are more
prone to that occurring with gusts 35 to 45 mph. The San Diego
County coastal areas may locally see wind gusts in the 25 to 30 mph
range Wednesday night into Thursday morning. More detailed
information on wind speeds, relative humidity levels, and fire

Winds are expected to weaken for Thursday night into Friday, but
elevated winds may linger in wind prone locations into Friday
morning.
With a cold low pressure system digging into the Great Basin
Wednesday and into the Desert Southwest Thursday, temperatures 10 to
20 degrees below average are expected for the mountains and deserts.
Highs for some locations in the mountains may be 30 degrees below
average. Areas west of the mountains will remain near to slightly
below average, especially for the inland valleys Wednesday and.
Thursday. Overnight low temperatures are expected to remain below
average for the deserts, mountains, and wind sheltered valley
locations for most of this week. The High Desert may get cold enough
for frost to develop particularly Thursday and Friday mornings. High
temperatures for the weekend are expected to be near normal for this
time of year, with widespread below average temperatures possibly
returning for next Tuesday.

.AVIATION...
051600Z...SCT high clouds are visible on satellite this morning, and
will continue through late this evening with bases at or above
25,000 ft MSL. Otherwise mostly clear skies with unrestricted VIS
today and tonight. Northeast winds to develop after 10Z Wednesday,
strongest in foothills and in the corridor from Cajon Pass to
central Orange County, and continue through the TAF period.
Initially, some LLWS will occur overnight before winds begin to
surface around sunrise Wednesday.

East-northeast winds will develop Wednesday morning and continue
through at least Thursday morning, with occasional gusts exceeding
20 knots. This will lead to areas of rough, choppy seas. Otherwise,
no hazardous marine conditions are expected through Saturday.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Gusty Santa Ana winds are expected to develop early Wednesday and
continue through Friday morning. These northeasterly Santa Ana winds
are expected to peak in strength Wednesday evening into Thursday
morning. Peak wind gusts of 55 to 65, potentially up to 70 mph for
wind prone locations are expected on the coastal slopes of the San
Bernardino mountains. Gusts 40 to 60 mph are expected into the
Inland Empire with the strongest winds below the Cajon Pass. Along
and below the coastal slopes of the Santa Ana Mountains into inland
Orange County, gusts of 40 to 60 mph are expected, potentially up
to 65 mph in wind prone passes and canyons in the Santa Ana
mountains and foothills. The winds will become more northeasterly
and expand into the Riverside mountains and San Diego County for
Wednesday night into Thursday with gusts to 45 mph for the
mountains and inland valleys. Gusts over 35 mph could extend to
the Orange County coast Wednesday into Thursday, with gusts
closer to 30 mph possible locally along the San Diego coast
Wednesday night into Thursday.
Lowest humidity will fall to 10 to 15 percent on Wednesday and 8 to
12 percent on Thursday with poor recovery to 20 to 30 percent for
Wednesday night. Latest guidance has trended drier for areas closer
to the coast with minimum relative humidity falling to 12 to 15
percent. There will be periods of critical fire weather conditions
Wednesday through Thursday for portions of the mountains, valleys,
and inland Orange County. Critical conditions may expand to the
Orange County coast for Wednesday afternoon into Thursday due to the
combination of low relative humidity and a higher potential for wind
gusts 35 to 45 mph.
Winds will gradually weaken into Friday, with lingering gusts of 35
to 45 mph possible Thursday night into Friday morning in wind
prone locations. Weaker winds with a gradual warming trend and
recovery in humidity is expected for coastal areas spreading
inland over the weekend into Monday.
