The heavy rain has ended, however, additional light to moderate 
rainfall will continue overnight. A Flood Advisory remains in effect 
for this area. Please continue to heed remaining road closures.

A Flood Watch remains in effect until 600 AM PST Wednesday for a 
portion of Southwest California.

.SYNOPSIS...
A large low pressure system continues to spin off the California
coast with an associated atmospheric river. This system will
slowly push further south and east, producing widespread moderate
to heavy precipitation across Southern California through Tuesday,
which will lead to considerable flooding for portions of the LA
Basin. Periods of showers continue through Friday, with slightly
warmer and drier conditions coming into the area this weekend.

SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

.SHORT TERM (Tonight through Wednesday)...
Doppler radar this afternoon depicts steady moderate rain
continuing across northern and western portions of our service
area with hourly rain rates near 0.25"/hr across coastal mountain
slopes and near 0.15"/hr for lower elevation. The atmospheric
river will continue to be nearly stationary this afternoon,
potentially expanding further east into San Diego County. By
tonight, hi-res models depict the AR moving south and east into
San Diego overnight tonight with greatest totals favored over
North County. There still remains a considerable flood threat for
Orange County, western parts of the Inland Empire, and the coastal
slopes of the SBD mountains through Tuesday, with a more
localized threat for the deserts and all of San Diego County.

Snow levels are slowly starting to fall near 6500-7000 feet across
the San Bernardino Mountains where snow has been reported in the
Wrightwood area. Snow levels still look to fall overnight into
Tuesday where snow levels will fall as low as 5,000 by Tuesday
afternoon and evening. The heaviest snow will fall above 6,000
feet, where a Winter Storm Warning is now in effect until Tuesday
night. Please travel with care as the morning and evening commutes
on Tuesday will be impacted with slick roadways and limited
visibility.

As the upper levels cool with the passage of the AR, the
thunderstorm threat will increase on Tuesday afternoon with model
soundings depicting CAPE values of 300-600 J/kg. This will lead
to scattered showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms, mainly
for the coast, western valleys, and coastal slopes. Locally heavy
downpours may occur, which will continue the flood threat.

.LONG TERM (Thursday through the Weekend)...
As the deep trough passes east of SoCal, there continues to be
some disagreement in the models on another quick-hitting shortwave
impacting SoCal later this week. If this passes over our area, we
will see another uptick in precipitation. Timing is still
uncertain, but the latest thinking that if this passes over our
area, San Diego county will see the highest rainfall and snowfall
for the higher elevations sometime on Wednesday night or Thursday.
This will be lighter precipitation than the storm early this week,
but many areas should see at least a half inch along and west of
the mountains. The troughing pattern will likely stick around
through Friday, providing more light showers for all areas.

Long-range model cluster ensembles are beginning to become in
better agreement of the trough departing by the end of the week as
high pressure over the Pacific expands into Southern California.
This will dry things out, leading to brighter and slightly warmer
days ahead.

.AVIATION...
052030Z...Coast/Valleys/Mountains...Widespread OVC clouds with bases
1500-4500 feet MSL, locally SCT-BKN 600-1000 FT MSL, will prevail
today, with areas of higher terrain obscured. VIS reduced to 2-4SM
in +RA. RA will be most widespread from Orange County through SW San
Bernardino County today and tonight. Occasional -SHRA in Riverside
and San Diego Counties with fewer reductions in VIS.

Deserts...BKN-OVC clouds with bases 3000-8000 feet MSL will continue
today with unrestricted surface VIS. SHRA will prevail over the high
deserts today, but will be more SCT over the lower deserts.

.MARINE...
Hazardous seas will continue into this afternoon, check the Small
Craft Advisory for details. A distinct frontal wind shift will occur
later this afternoon and evening, with weaker westerly winds behind
the front. Periods of moderate to heavy rain are expected through
Tuesday. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon
into Wednesday morning. Brisk westerly winds will prevail Tuesday
through Friday, and at times may generate briefly hazardous
conditions.

.BEACHES...
High surf is expected today: 4 to 9 feet in Orange County and 6 to
10 feet in San Diego County. Strong rip currents and hazardous
swimming conditions are expected. Surf will gradually diminish late
today.

There is a slight chance of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon into
Wednesday morning.
