.SYNOPSIS...Expect increasing winds, heavier rainfall, and
mountain snow starting early Wednesday as a strong front and
associated atmospheric river moves across the region. There is
some potential for a deepening low to bring stronger winds early
Thursday, but confidence is low. The active pattern will continue
with another set of disturbances late this week and through the
weekend. A brief break appears likely early next week with weak
high pressure building over the region.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...Forecast remains on track
tonight with just a few areas of showers and the region largely in
between weather systems. The active pattern will return by early
Christmas Day, however. Previous discussion follows.        12

Ensembles are painting a very potent 180+ kt jet streak cutting
across the Pacific. Near the exit region, a developing frontal
system will usher in an atmospheric river along with gusty winds
and high seas. Let's take a dive into all the expected impacts
below:

Precipitation: A broad swath of PWAT values around 1.00 to 1.25"
offshore will spill into the region on Wednesday morning, well
above the climatological norm for this time of year. Along with
it, 250 to 500 IVT values are pressing up against the Olympics and
the rest of W WA, signifying deep-moisture transport along with
the potential for efficient orographic lifting of precipitation.
This rain-maker is slated to remain in place as the deluge persist
well into the overnight hours. Snow levels will start off around
2,500 ft before gradually rising to 3,500 to 4,500 ft. Heavy
snowfall is expected for both the Olympics and Cascades as a
Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Wednesday morning through
Thursday evening. In terms of rainfall, 1.00-2.00" of rain is
expected across the interior lowlands during this time. 2.00-4.00"
is at play for the coast along with 4.00-6.00" over the Olympics.
As more HREF guidance fills in, these number may be refined.
Nevertheless, a very wet system will take hold with the potential
for isolated river flooding. More below is provided within the
hydro section.

Winds: As the frontal system develops, a notable drop in central
pressure is being shown by models as it curls north of Haida
Gwaii. In response, a tightened surface gradient with increasing
southeasterly surface winds across the area has prompted a Wind
Advisory for the North Coast, Admiralty Inlet, Northern Interior
and San Juan Islands. Gusts up 50 mph are expected in these areas
between during the morning hours into the afternoon. The threat
won't end there as the potential for even stronger winds exists
Thursday morning. Much uncertainty remains in the exact evolution
of this particular system but models are hinting at bent back
occlusion which could lead to the potential for damaging winds
along the coast.

High Surf: Big time seas will result from this active pattern of
storms tracking over the Pacific. Seas are forecast to build above
20 feet Wednesday night into Thursday. As such, an additional
High Surf Advisory has been issued. Large waves may wash over
beaches, jetties, and other structures unexpectedly bringing much
danger to people and infrastructures.

The parade of storms will last through Friday with additional
headlines likely needed. Widespread precipitation, gusty winds,
along with coastal flooding as tides start to increase as we move
into the next cycle of perigean spring tides. Stay tuned for more
updates as we get through this active period of weather one day
at a time. High temperatures are to range between the mid 40s to
near 50 F with overnight lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/....While there are some
differences in the models, the main message in the extended
forecast is conditions are likely to remain unsettled.None of
these systems look anywhere near as strong as the bunch Wednesday
into Thursday. Long range ensembles are hinting at ridging towards
the beginning of next week but we aren't favored to completely dry
out just yet.

.AVIATION...Westerly flow aloft will transition more southwesterly
on Wednesday as an upper trough develops offshore. A few scattered
showers ahead of the next disturbance will linger this evening and
could bring brief temporary lower conditions. Otherwise, expect
increasing clouds overnight with lowering ceilings as the front
approaches. Widespread MVFR ceilings expected by Wednesday
morning with local IFR conditions and reduced visibility in rain,
especially along the coast. Widespread low MVFR/IFR conditions
likely expected Wednesday night. South winds will increase early
Wednesday morning and remain gusty through the day. Strongest
winds will be along the coast and near the water in the interior
from KPAE north through KFHR/KORS and KBLI through afternoon.

KSEA...VFR conditions this evening with some mid clouds around
associated with light showers. Meanwhile, gusty southerly winds to
around 20 kt will ease a bit this evening. However, increasing
clouds and lowering ceilings by early Wednesday as the next front
approaches. Expect southeast winds gusting to 25 kt through much
of Wednesday, along with lower MVFR ceilings and reduced
visibilityin rain.

.MARINE...Winds will increase later tonight into Wednesday morning
as the next frontal system moves across Western Washington. High-
end gales are expected for the coastal waters, as well as portions
of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and northern inland water, on
Wednesday. Confidence is increasing in the potential for a brief
burst of storm gusts to 60 kt with the frontal passage around
midday over the outer coastal waters and will continue to monitor
the high resolution guidance and available observations well
offshore to determine if a higher headline (that is, a storm
warning) is needed for portions of the coastal waters.

Another system will quickly follow later Wednesday night into
Thursday morning as some guidance suggests a deepening low will
cross the northern coastal waters and toward the west entrance of
the Strait of Juan de Fuca. While there does remain some
uncertainty as to if it develops fully, how strong it will be, and
where it might track, the potential for another round of
very strong winds (at least gales, with high end potential of 60
kt gusts in a bent-back occlusion around the low) needs to be
emphasized.

A weather system will then again follow Friday into
Saturday for another period of stronger winds. Seas remain
elevated and slow to decay this evening, holding around 15 to 18
feet still tonight. A continued gradual decline will materialize
into early Wednesday, but seas will again build into the 20-25 ft
range over the coastal waters by Thursday. JD/Cullen

.HYDROLOGY...A series of systems remain on track to impact Western
Washington from Wednesday into this weekend. A majority of the
rainfall will fall Wednesday into Friday morning with an atmospheric
river. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are expected near the
coast and locally higher amounts of 4 to 6 inches over the
Olympics.

The Skokomish River is expected to remain in above minor flood
stage, with an increase up to moderate flood stage Thursday
afternoon before slowly falling back to minor through the weekend.
The Bogachiel is also forecasted to rise into minor flood stage
Thursday afternoon (flood watch now in effect for Clallam County).
The Chehalis River and Grand Mound and Porter, Cedar River at
Renton, and the Skookumchuck River at Bucoda will climb into action
stage, but are expected to remain below minor flood stage at this
time.

Additional rivers and streams may rise into action stage, but
are currently below it at this time with this event. Additional
rivers that will approach action flood stage include: Snoqualmie
River at Carnation, Satsop River at Satsop, Snohomish River at
Monroe, Newaukum River at Chehalis.

Additional systems will bring lesser amounts of precipitation into
the region Friday into the weekend. These systems are not expected
to produce significant rises to rivers, but may maintain any rises
that do occur through the weekend until conditions improve next
week. Also, with snow levels increasing from 3,000 feet up to 4,000
to 5,000 feet with this atmospheric river, the cooler temperatures
will reduce the flood threat for rivers flowing off the Cascades.

There remains an increased threat of landslides through the weekend
(due to saturated soil conditions in combination with the expected
precipitation expected to fall).
