Dry through Friday morning. Rain returns Friday afternoon with
gusty winds. Cold front Friday night. Cooler with snow showers
over the weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 1245 PM Thursday...

A high pressure system will provide dry weather through Friday
morning. An strong system will then push a band of rain into the
area Friday afternoon. Rainfall amounts look to remain under an
inch, so thinking that the rainfall will not cause water
problems.

A strong low level jet will move into the region late Friday
morning. Winds will be out of the southeast, which will allow
for downsloping on the western slopes. An strong inversion
should protect counties away from the higher elevations and
southeast flow downsloping until late in the day when the
inversion erodes. Gradient winds in the higher elevations will
not need mixing to make it to the ground and will be strong
enough for a High Wind Warning. Will need a Wind advisory for
the rest of the mountains and western facing slopes.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 105 PM Thursday...

Active weather continues in the short term period, with rain,
moderate at times across the area at the start of the period, along
with gusty winds, particularly across the mountains, where the
potential for 50+kt wind gusts will exist. Frontal passage Friday
evening should aid in mixing, and the potential for stronger winds
to mix down in the lower elevations. Have issued a wind advisory for
remaining counties outside of high wind warning in the Friday night
time period. Saturday should overall be drier but cool, with
precipitation gradually tapering off to perhaps a drizzle across
parts of the area. An upper trough/secondary front will move through
the area on Sunday, with flurries, and perhaps a few light snow
showers, and a reinforcing shot of colder air.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 1120 AM Thursday...

Models differ Monday onward with evolution of next event. There is
fairly high confidence in snow occurring early next week as an upper
trough/arctic front moves towards the area with the potential for
multiple disturbances affecting the region, but details on timing
and placement of moisture and areas of forcing remain uncertain. GFS
is a little more aggressive with moisture/snow and better forcing
across the area than the ECMWF, which keeps the bulk of moisture off
to our east. Regardless, much colder air will gradually filter into
the area early next week, with -23 air taking hold at 850mb. Expect
low temperatures middle of next week in the single digits, possibly
dipping below zero particularly across the mountains.

As of 1145 AM Thursday...

Some MVFR clouds may effect central Ohio and northern West
Virginia this afternoon and evening, otherwise expect VFR
conditions through the TAF period.

A low level jet will cause strong and gusty southeast winds
starting late Friday morning. Stronger winds will generally be
in the higher elevations and along the western slopes of the
mountains. Gusts of 50 to 60 MPH are possible in these areas.
