.SHORT TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...

Upper low enters the west coast tonight and fills as it moves
through the Desert southwest towards the 4 Corners region as a
broad trough on Thursday. Southwest flow ahead of the system
today has brought some breezy conditions to the mountains,
valleys and portions of the I-25 corridor region this afternoon
with brief spotty critical fire weather conditions along the
southern I-25 corridor. This should come to an end as winds
diminish towards 6 - 7 PM which should limit coverage and
duration below Red Flag criteria.

Otherwise, a leading impulse ejects across CO tonight with
banded showers developing over the mountains and spreading into
the adjacent plains. High res models focus these showers north
of highway 50 along and north of a frontal boundary which drops
slowly southward as a lee side surface low develops across
southeast CO/northeast NM. Could see an inch of accumulation as
snow levels drop overnight across portions of northern El Paso
county though high res models vary quite a bit in the position
of these finer scale bands and snow levels appear slow to drop
until after 06z. These will lift off to the northeast towards
Thursday morning. The Continental Divide could also see some
snow showers overnight as moisture increases in southwest flow
aloft. Overall, coverage stays more in the scattered range with
spotty light accumulations through the overnight hours.

A bit of a lull is expected in precipitation across southern CO
Thursday morning.  Frontal boundary drops southward through the
plains in the afternoon with low level flow shifting from the
northeast in the late afternoon and evening.  Showers will develop
over the mountains in the afternoon with HREF mean CAPE showing a
few hundred J/kg.  Convective snow showers will develop across the
mountains with heavy snow bursts possible.  Snow levels will hover
around 7000 feet but could be driven down to around 6000 feet during
the heavier precipitation rates.  Will begin a suite of warnings and
advisories in the afternoon as the heavier snow ramps up into the
later periods. -KT

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...

Thursday Night and Friday..

After sunset, expecting temperatures and snow levels to continue to
decrease steadily through the overnight hours. Most areas look to
transition to snow by around 4am or so at the latest on our plains,
though convective snow showers early in the evening could drive snow
levels down much faster than currently forecast in some areas. For
this reason, went ahead with Winter Weather Advisories for the
Palmer, Teller County, and portions of Fremont, Huerfano, and
western Las Animas counties, where snow totals are still most
uncertain given the warmer, convective nature of this storm. On that
note, NBM snow ratios have been consistently much too high given how
warm this system is, and were adjusted accordingly with this
package, especially over the mountains. As the wave moves towards
the TX/OK panhandle region by early Friday morning, our upslope
component transitions from more due easterly to more northeasterly.
This will lead to heavier snow over our Wet Mountains, the Sangres,
and Pikes Peak, where Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for
Thursday afternoon through Friday Night. Snow totals in these areas
are expected to range from 8 to 18 inches, with highest amounts over
the Wets. The NBM also seems too warm for daytime highs on Friday
given lingering light upslope precip and cloud cover. Trended
temperatures down a few degrees for lower elevations, especially
along our southern border, in line with other high res model
guidance. Even with the decrease in temps, daytime highs still look
to hover near or just above freezing for most of our plains, which
could help to further limit any travel impacts with any left over
snow showers on Friday.

Saturday Through Tuesday..

Behind the departing system, we remain in northwesterly flow aloft
for Saturday as weak ridging tries to build in from the west. This
will keep daytime highs maybe just a few degrees cooler than normal
on Saturday under mostly sunny skies and calm winds. Sunday through
Tuesday look to be around 5 to 10 degrees warmer than normal for
most locations, with highs reaching into the 60s every day through
this period. Dry weather is expected across the area for both Sunday
and Monday, though winds look remain weak and unorganized enough
under the ridge that we likely won't need any fire weather mentions
through at the least the middle of next week.

Wednesday Onwards..

Models bring another trough and potential chances for rain, snow,
and cooler temperatures across the forecast area by midweek, with
chances for snow returning over our central mountains as early as
Tuesday. Better chances for precip over the lower elevations look to
hold off until closer to the Wednesday timeframe at this point.

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z FRIDAY/...

A frontal boundary will be through KCOS and KPUB this evening
bringing a northerly wind shift around 10-15 kts and some VCSH for
the KCOS terminal.  A band of -SHRASN could take shape across El
Paso county bringing local accumulations of -SN of up to an inch
after 06z as snow levels drop.  Location of this band is still in
question with greater odds of it taking shape to the west and north
of KCOS terminal.  Cigs will likely remain VFR for KPUB and KCOS but
could drop into the MVFR category if this band affects the KCOS
terminal between 02z and 10z.  KALS will see breezy southwest winds
gusting up to 25 kts this evening before diminishing after 01-02z.
All 3 TAF sites will start out VFR Thursday morning with north winds
at KCOS and KPUB shifting from the northeast through the afternoon.
Cigs will gradually drop into the MVFR category at KCOS and KPUB
towards the end of the TAF period as -SHSN develops over the
mountains and spreads off into the KCOS terminal.  KALS will stay
dry through 00Z Fri with snow showers possible later Friday night.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Snow showers will continue across the Continental Divide region
today. Accumulations around an inch will be possible. Some mixed
rain and snow showers will also be possible this evening across the
Palmer Divide.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday

Widespread rain and snow develops Thursday afternoon, gradually
changing to all snow early Friday morning as snow levels fall.
Snow then continues Friday into Friday evening, before ending
early Saturday morning. Heavy snow looks likely over the southeast
mountains with this storm, and a few favored east slopes of the
Wets and Sangres plus locations around Pikes Peak may see over a
foot of accumulation before snow ends Friday night. Lesser
accumulations are expected along the I-25 corridor, though enough
snow may fall to impact travel, mainly over the Palmer Divide and
across the higher terrain around Walsenburg. On the plains, some
light accumulations will be possible during the day on Friday.
