.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure to our northeast will continue to weaken and
meander through Saturday before moving out to sea. High
pressure builds in Saturday night and Sunday, holds influence
over the region into Tuesday. A warm front may cross through
later Tuesday into the Thursday time frame with a cold front
possible by the end of the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Forecast remains on track as we head through midday. Have
removed mention of thunder today, as the atmosphere looks a bit
too stable for more than just some showers, and even graupel may
be tough to come by today, though not impossible with a brief,
small heavier shower. As a shortwave passes through this
evening, showers may make it down to the I-95 corridor between 5
and 8 PM, but otherwise the bulk of the activity will be farther
south across the Delmarva toward Cape May, and farther northwest
toward the Lehigh Valley, and northern NJ.

Strong occluded surface low pressure is currently situation over the
Gulf of Maine. This surface low is forecast to meander over the Gulf
of Maine through the near term as it continues to occlude and weaken
some. Meanwhile, surface high pressure currently centered to our
west will migrate eastward with time.

Overall, the region will continue to feel the influence of this Gulf
of Maine low through tonight while remaining chilly and unsettled.
Mainly dry conditions can be anticipated barring the few stray
light showers, but the afternoon will once again see the
possibility of shower activity and development. This is due to
shortwave energy rounding the upper level-low centered over the
northeastern CONUS. Though guidance (deterministic and mesoscale
models) depicts weaker and more isolated shower activity for
this afternoon compared to yesterday, forecast soundings
continue to indicate a little instability will be present. Given
the colder air aloft with the potential for some minor
instability, would not rule out a little graupel briefly once
again for today.

Highs will be similar, if not a few degrees colder than Thursday,
mainly in the upper 40s to low 50s. Lows mainly in the 30s can be
anticipated across the region tonight.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
Cut-off low off the coast of New England will gradually drift out to
sea this weekend with high pressure across southern Canada builds in
from the north. We could see a few isolated wintry rain or snow
showers across the Poconos on Saturday as a weak shortwave impulse
circles around the upper low, but otherwise most of the region will
stay relatively dry, albeit somewhat cloudy and certainly cooler
with afternoon highs about 5-10 degrees below climatology. Clouds
clear out more Saturday night, allowing for the potential to see
some modest radiational cooling and overnight lows to drop into the
low to upper 30s. A similar dry and cool setup can be expected
Sunday, with clearer skies Sunday night and a better setup for
radiational cooling, warranting overnight lows to be a few degrees
cooler than the previous night.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
High pressure will start off overhead on Monday before splitting in
two, with the southern high taking over Monday night and into
Tuesday. Broad scale upper level ridging will be in place Monday for
our nationwide solar eclipse viewing giving us a mostly dry day,
though some upper level vorticity could help develop some fair
weather clouds Monday afternoon. While we are forecasting warmer
afternoon highs on Monday with low 60s across the board, we could
see temperatures actually cool by 10 degrees or more in the
afternoon with the loss of solar radiation during the peak of the
eclipse!

High pressure shifts off the Southeastern US coast on Tuesday,
helping bring north a warm front Tuesday through Thursday. Along
with this warm front, weak upper level shortwaves will arrive
midweek to increase precipitation chances beginning Tuesday through
Thursday. A cold front is expected to move into the area late in the
week, bringing even greater chances of precipitation.

.AVIATION /14Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today...Mainly VFR. Some isolated showers may pop up still once
again for the afternoon, particularly north and west of I-95 and
Delmarva, but much less coverage and intensity than yesterday. CIGs
mainly BKN 040-070. Winds WNW 10-15 kts with 20-25 kt gusts.
Moderate confidence.

Tonight...Mainly VFR. WNW winds 5-10 kts. High confidence.

Outlook...

Prevailing VFR conditions Saturday through Monday. The next storm
system arrives late Tuesday, bringing chances for sub-VFR conditions
back into the mix the middle of next week.

.MARINE...
SCA is in effect until 8AM this morning for ANZ430-431 and until 4PM
this afternoon for ANZ450>455.

A surge of WNW winds gusting to around 25 kts is currently occurring
on Delaware Bay. While this surge may diminish some in some areas of
the bay during the next few hours, gusts at or around 25 kts could
continue until around 8AM.

Some shower activity is possible over the waters (particularly
ANZ453 southward) during this afternoon once again. A couple stray
rumbles of thunder may be observed.

Outlook...

Lingering Small Craft Advisory conditions possible into
Saturday with breezy northwest flow remaining persistent. Fair
weather over the waters Sunday through Tuesday are expected to
keep conditions below advisory criteria.

.HYDROLOGY...
A few light showers expected today with little to no impacts
expected to the river levels.

Some areal flood warnings remain in effect with smaller river and
stream flooding occurring with the Rancocas and Millstone Rivers
currently in MINOR flood stage, but are beginning to drain with
river levels gradually falling today. The the Passaic River,
currently in MINOR flood stage, will be slower to crest (not until
later Friday), and will also go into MODERATE flood.

We attach words like MINOR and MODERATE to river flooding. What do
these words mean?

MINOR FLOODING: Minimal to no property damage, but some public
threat can be expected (e.g. inundation of roads).

MODERATE FLOODING: Some inundation of and roads near streams/rivers
are expected. Evacuations of people and/or the transfer of property
to higher elevations can be anticipated.

MAJOR FLOODING: Extensive inundation of structures and roads.
Evacuations of people are on a larger scale. The transfer of
property to higher elevations is needed.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Coastal Flood Advisories were reissued for the tidal Delaware River
for the high tide cycle late this morning and early afternoon.
Despite westerly winds helping drain the tidal Delaware River and
Delaware Bay, continued fresh water contribution from tidal
waterways and tributaries feeding into the river are expected to
result in elevated river levels that will ultimately contribute to
another round of minor tidal flooding.

Surge values for all other locations should be on the downswing as
the back bays are being allowed to drain with our WNW flow
persisting. If we do see any additional flooding along the bay bays
during those next few high tide cycles, it should be minor and more
localized as time progresses.
