.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure along the East Coast moves offshore as a weak
frontal boundary crosses the region this afternoon. A warm front
lifts north through the region tonight, followed by another
warm front Tuesday night. A cold front then moves across the
region Wednesday night. High pressure builds in from the north
and west Thursday before moving offshore on Friday. Weak low
pressure may pass south of the region next weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Clouds have increased across the area ahead of an approaching
short wave/vorticity impulse and frontal boundary as an area of
enhanced moisture moves into the area as well. The combination
of the short wave and increase moisture could lead to some light
precipitation later tonight and into the morning hours just
after daybreak. There remains pretty dry air at the surface, so
it may take a while for the precipitation to make it to the
surface. Most precipitation will likely be flurries or sprinkles
and not lead to much in the way of measurable precipitation.
The most likely areas for a hundredth or two would be around the
I-80 corridor northward.
Once this short wave moves to the east, the frontal boundary
will move into the area and wash out, before drier air moves
back into the area and clouds should begin to dissipate through
the day. Southwesterly flow at the surface will continue across
the area which will lead to above normal temperatures.
Tonight, a warm front is forecast to begin to lift into the
region from the south. As the front approaches, a short
wave/vorticity impulse will lift across the area, while an area
of enhanced moisture lifts across the region as well. This could
lead to a slight chance of showers or sprinkles later tonight
after midnight and through daybreak.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
Low pressure from the Northern Plains will move into the upper
Great Lakes on Tuesday, and a strong cold front will develop
behind it. An upper trough will develop over the eastern third
of the country. Meanwhile, a tight southerly pressure gradient
will form between this approaching cold front and high pressure
offshore. A warm front will approach late Tuesday and then lifts
north through the region Tuesday night. Rain will develop with
this boundary Tuesday afternoon and continues through Tuesday
night. The pressure gradient tightens even further as the cold
front approaches from the west and moves through the Great Lakes
and Ohio Valley. A 60 to 70 kt low level jet will develop over
the area as the cold front approaches. While it will be hard for
those winds to mix down given the warm air advection regime,
south winds will still increase to 15 to 25 mph with 30 to 40
mph gusts starting Tuesday night and continuing through
Wednesday. Gusts up to 45 mph as possible along the New Jersey
coast where a Wind Advisory may be needed.
The cold front continues to approach from the west and will be
through western New York and western Pennsylvania Wednesday
afternoon. Ahead of this front, a warm and humid (for this time
of the year) airmass will be in place with highs on Tuesday and
Wednesday generally in the low to mid 60s, and possibly into the
upper 60s in some southern areas on Wednesday. Surface dew
points will rise well into the 50s. This will yield PWATs up to
1.25 inches. In addition, ML MUCAPE will be upwards of 100 to
150 J/kg and DCAPE will be up near 100 J/kg. While this would
not be much in July, it is enough to warrant at least a slight
chance for thunderstorms Wednesday evening just ahead of and
with the passage of the front in late February. Will also
mention locally heavy rain showers possible as well due to those
high PWATs and the strong low level jet over the area.
Cold front crosses the region fairly quickly after midnight,
and strong cold air advection will be underway. Temperatures
crash into the 20s and low 30s by daybreak. Showers taper off
from west to east, though there may be a transition to snow in
the southern Poconos. Winds shift to the northwest behind the
front and will range from 15 to 25 mph with 25 to 35 mph gusts.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The last of the showers should be over shortly after daybreak
Thursday as the cold front departs. Canadian high pressure moves
into the lower Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and Tennessee Valley
on Thursday. Gusty winds continue for much of Thursday before
diminishing late. Turning colder on Thursday with highs in the
upper 30s to low 40s which are a good 5 degrees or so below
normal for this time of the year. Lows Thursday night will drop
into the 20s.
High pressure moves offshore by Friday. Return flow sets up
behind the high, and warm air advection will allow temperatures
to rebound back into the mid and upper 40s.
An upper trough then approaches from the west and weak low
pressure develops over the Gulf Coast states and moves into the
Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Friday night through Saturday.
Another weak low may affect the area Sunday. For now, will
follow NBM guidance and will carry slight chance PoPs. Highs
warm back into the 50s Saturday and into the low 60s Sunday.

Outlook...
Tuesday through Friday...A prolonged period of sub-VFR
conditions in periods of rain and fog Tuesday through Wednesday.
By Wednesday evening, SHRA with locally heavy rain and isolated
