.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure tracks to our north into Wednesday morning with a
weak front settling into our region. Another weak system arrives
late Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a potentially stronger
system over the weekend. An area of weak high pressure may then
build toward our area early next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Minor tweaks made with the 1 AM update. Some
showers/thunderstorms moving through Delmarva and the southern
Poconos. Storms will remain sub-severe however, and shouldn't
pose any risks.

A shortwave embedded in the low-level flow is continuing to
work its way eastward. This will be the source for our weather
through tonight as the main low pressure system continues to
lag behind and looks to pass to our north late in the near term
forecast period.

Shower and thunderstorm activity should continue to work its
way from west to east through the overnight hours, before
tapering off early Wednesday. Some patchy fog is possible. Lows
mostly in the upper 60s to mid 70s. Heading into daytime
Wednesday, a lull in precipitation may form as the shortwave
from today passes offshore and moves away from the region.
Redevelopment of convection looks to be most likely around
midday with the parent surface low just to the northwest of the
region. However, coverage still looks to be only scattered at
best. High temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80s to
low 90s (cooler at higher elevations).

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Hot and very humid with peak heat indices both days between 95
and 105 degrees across the region (lowest along the coast and in
the higher terrain).

The presence of some upper-level troughing in the Northeast and
Mid-Atlantic regions will result in some chances for mainly
diurnally driven convection. Any carryover of convection into
Wednesday night should dissipate with the loss of daytime
heating but also a lack of overall forcing. There looks to be a
surface front or trough across our area Thursday, and with some
additional shortwave energy arriving some convection should
develop to our west and then move into our some of western zones
during the afternoon. The strength of the shortwave and also
the extent of how organized convection can get will determine
how far east it makes it. Some guidance shows a decent amount of
convection arriving later Thursday afternoon and evening. An
MCV could also be present from previous convection well to our
west, however these features are more challenging to predict
farther out in time. A more organized system would result in
some stronger thunderstorms.

Much of Friday could be precipitation-free as we await a
stronger upper-level trough well to our west to get closer to
our area. While at least some convection cannot be ruled out
within the hot and very humid air mass, stronger forcing for
ascent looks to be lacking during the day. Some increased
convection to our west may make a run at parts of our area late
in the afternoon and evening before weakening and/or
dissipating. For now, kept the PoPs no higher than the chance
range.

This will be a hot and very humid time frame with peak heat
indices both Thursday and Friday between about 95 and 105
degrees for much of the area. As a result, a Heat Advisory looks
probable for at least parts of our area for both days (where
the heat index criteria for an advisory starts at 100 degrees).

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Summary...Hot and humid conditions gradually ease; Convective
chances through the weekend, then these decrease early next
week.

Synoptic Overview...An upper-level trough is forecast to
gradually move into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. This
gradual trough settling in is forecast to chip away at the heat
and humidity, but will support convective chances. As the
trough axis generally reaches our area early next week, weak
high pressure from the north and west starts to settle nearby
and this should bring in some cooling and also drier air.

For Saturday and Sunday...An upper-level trough is forecast to
gradually arrive. As the trough axis remains to our west through
this time frame, a very humid air mass is forecast to remain in
place. The urban I-95 corridor looks to be close to Heat
Advisory criteria Saturday (heat index near 100 degrees). A
surface low associated with this upper- level trough should be
on the weaker side, however this will gradually pull a cold
front across our area later Saturday and Sunday. The forward
movement of this front will determine how long convection lasts
and also the arrival of some drier/less humid air. Some
increased forcing for ascent ahead of the trough, surface low
and cold front will provide lift for the development of showers
and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoons and
evenings. While some stronger thunderstorms are possible, the
extent of shear and instability along with forcing will
determine the details. A high moisture content air mass will
result in a locally heavy rain potential especially with any
more organized or slow-moving convection. It will be very
warm/hot and humid, however the addition of more clouds and
convection should keep temperatures from achieving higher
levels.

For Monday and Tuesday...The aforementioned upper-level trough
is forecast to be crossing our area. The forcing for ascent
along with the plume of deeper moisture is therefore offshore,
however as the trough aloft may weaken a front may remain
stretched west to east across portions of our area. A weak
surface high is also forecast to build nearby and this should be
enough to bring in some drier air. While the air mass does not
look all that cooler with this trough, the heat should ease
along with some lowering of the dew points. The chances for
convection also decreases, however all of this will depend on
the timing of the trough and also how much drying can advect
into our area.

conditions should drop to MVFR for ceilings, remaining that way
through the night. Some scattered showers/thunderstorms to the
north/west of the terminals, but not expecting any heavy rain to
move over the sites. For the I-95 terminals, MVFR CIGs dropping
down to IFR with KPNE/KTTN with CIGs only dropping to MVFR for
KPHL/KILG. For the South Jersey terminals, conditions have
dropped to IFR and expecting it to remain that way through the
rest of the night. Winds at all sites around 5-10 kt with gusts
up to 20 kt at KACY.

Wednesday...Sub-VFR conditions in the morning (MVFR/IFR)
improve to prevailing VFR by mid-day. Some scattered
showers/thunderstorms will move through in the afternoon. Have
included a VCTS group for KABE/KTTN/KPNE as thunderstorms should
mainly be north of Philadelphia. Southwesterly winds around 10
knots. Moderate confidence in prevailing VFR for most of the
day. Low confidence in timing and extent of convection.

Outlook...

Wednesday night and Thursday...Mostly VFR, however some showers
or thunderstorms possible especially Thursday afternoon and
evening.

Friday through Sunday...Some showers and thunderstorms may
result in times of sub-VFR conditions.

For Atlantic Coastal Waters...A Small Craft Advisory is in
effect through 8 AM Wednesday for waters south of Cape May and 7
PM Wednesday for waters north of Cape May. Southerly winds are
forecast to range between 15-20 kt through tonight. Occasional
gusts up to 25- 28 kt are possible, most likely this evening.
Seas of 4-6 feet. A few showers and thunderstorms possible,
particularly during the overnight hours. For Wednesday,
southerly winds decrease to 10-15 knots with gusts up to 20
knots. Seas begin to decrease but linger around 5 feet,
particularly north of Cape May, 3-4 feet further south. An
isolated shower or storm remain possible.

For the Delaware Bay...Conditions are expected to remain below
SCA criteria. Southerly winds up to 20 kt possible with choppy
waters. Winds decrease to around 10 knots on Wednesday.

Outlook...

Wednesday night through Sunday...The conditions are anticipated
to be below Small Craft Advisory conditions. Some stronger
thunderstorms are possible.

Rip Currents...

Wednesday and Thursday...South to southwest winds will range
from 10 to 20 mph with waves in the surf zone of 1 to 3 feet. As
a result, there is a MODERATE risk for the development of
dangerous rip currents for the Jersey Shore and a LOW risk for
the Delaware Beaches.
