.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure builds in for the middle of the week. A weak system
passes offshore Wednesday night/Thursday with high pressure
returning for the end of the week. A stronger system then looks
likely to traverse the eastern US this weekend, bringing rain and
snow. High pressure moves in for the end of the weekend and start of
next week, with another strong system moving in for the middle of
next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
With initially clear skies and light winds, temperatures have
radiated well so far. Some high clouds are pushing into the
region, and temperatures should begin to hold steady through
dawn. Mid-level ridging and surface high pressure have built
into the region. Overnight lows will mainly be in the 20s.
Philly may not drop below 30. Winds will be light, generally W
around 5 mph.

The mid-level zonal flow tilts a bit on Wednesday, becoming
more SW to NE oriented. There will be some clouds around on
Wednesday, but no precipitation is expected. Highs will be in
the 40s for most. Some 30s can be expected across NW NJ and the
southern Poconos. W winds will be around 10 mph.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
A split flow pattern approaches for Wednesday Night and Thursday.
The southern and northern branches will try to phase but that
phasing looks to occur far enough east for our region to escape any
significant impacts. A weak area of low pressure and cold front
associated with the northern stream will move in on Wednesday night,
while an area of low pressure associated with the southern stream
slides by to the south and offshore. Both global models and CAMs
have backed off on any snow showers in the Lehigh Valley/Poconos
associated with the front as it approaches. Any precipitation looks
to come along Delmarva and the NJ coast as the distant coastal slow
pulls away. It should mainly come in the form of light rain showers,
but a few snowflakes can't be ruled out prior to or around daybreak.
Low temperature Wednesday night into early Thursday morning will be
in the upper 20s to low 30s.

Drier air begins to work in as Thursday goes on, with some clearing
possible later in the day. With the departing coastal low and
incoming high, a tight pressure gradient will set up. The result
will be a breezy day overall with gusts picking up into the 20-30
MPH range. The colder airmass will lag behind the front, and high
temperatures in the afternoon should be rather seasonable, with low
to mid 40s expected before temperatures drop into the upper teens to
low 20s Thursday night.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Friday through Saturday morning will be quiet as upper level ridging
builds in. An expansive area of surface high pressure will swing
down from Canada and be the dominant feature for the end of the
week. This will bring a shot of cold air to the region with highs
struggling to get out of the 30s on Friday with lows in the upper
teens and low to mid 20s Friday Night.

This brings us to our notable weekend storm beginning Saturday
afternoon into Sunday. At the moment, deterministic guidance and
ensembles show a signal for a system to move in somewhere in the
Saturday afternoon/Sunday timeframe as a southern stream shortwave
ejects out of the Gulf Coast region toward the Mid Atlantic. An
associated area of low pressure will strengthen as it moves through
the southeast and up the Mid-Atlantic coast. The exact track of this
surface low will determine what specific impacts there will be. Not
quite worth getting into what each model currently shows now as it
is bound to change over successive runs this far out, but the
consensus blend is showing a low track that hugs closer to the
coastline, increasing the chances for a "warmer" solution. At the
moment, the best chance for impactful snowfall accumulations will be
west of the Fall Line (Lehigh Valley, Poconos, interior northern
NJ). However, precipitation types along the I-95 corridor and points
south and east are remain uncertain at this time and heavily
dependent on where the low will track. At the moment, consensus
suggest mainly rain with some snow potentially mixing in at times,
but we will simply need to wait until we get closer to the weekend
before getting any more specific. Bottom line, this system bears
watching and is setting up to bring heavy precipitation, gusty
winds, and potential coastal flooding though with strong onshore
flow. See hydrology section below for more details regarding
rainfall and flooding potential.

Quiet weather returns Sunday night into Monday as high pressure
returns across the region. Our next storm system will begin to
approach the region Monday night that could give us yet another
round of heavy precipitation next week.

Wednesday...VFR conditions expected. High clouds expected and
some lower clouds possible at KABE and KRDG. West/Northwest
winds around 5-10 kts. High confidence.

Outlook...

Wednesday Night...Mainly VFR though some sub-VFR conditions possible
with scattered showers and lowering ceilings. West/Northwest
winds around 5 kt. Low confidence.

Thursday....sub-VFR conditions possible in the morning with
scattered rain/snow showers and low clouds. Low confidence in any
restrictions. Higher confidence in northwest winds increasing to 10-
15 kt and gusts 20-25 kt.

Thursday Night...VFR. Northwest winds decreasing into the 5-10 kt
range. Moderate confidence.

Friday...VFR. West/northwest winds around 5-10 kt. High confidence.

Saturday...Primarily VFR, though some restrictions possible late in
the day as an system moves in. E/NE winds around 5-10 kt. Low
confidence.

Saturday Night...MVFR/IFR conditions likely with steady rain/snow.
KRDG/KABE most likely to see a prolonged period of snow with
primarily rain at the rest of the terminals. East/Northeast winds
around 10-20 kt with gusts 20-30 kt. Moderate confidence overall.

Sunday...Restrictions likely early in the day as rain/snow moves
out. Northwest winds 10-20 kt. Low confidence.

.HYDROLOGY...
The potential for heavy precipitation returns this weekend with
a robust coastal system impacting the region. Already saturated
grounds from heavy rainfall during previous storm systems will
keep the region more sensitive to flooding potential. As a
result, the WPC has issued a Marginal Risk for the Day 5
Excessive Rainfall Outlook. Looking ahead, another potent storm
system has the potential to bring another round of heavy
rainfall to the region early next week.
