.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will continue to impact the region with
precipitation tonight and Thursday as it moves northeastwards.
Weak surface high pressure builds in Thursday night and holds
influence over the region Friday into Friday night. Low pressure
from the southwest brings more precipitation to the region
Saturday into Sunday. High pressure dominates the region Monday,
Tuesday, and Wednesday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Coastal low pressure is passing east of the area early this
morning on its way northeastward towards Nova Scotia. In its
wake, high pressure centered over Quebec with an extension
southwestward across the Great Lakes into the Tennessee Valley
will slowly build southeastward into the region. This will allow
for a gradual drying with a gusty north to northwest wind
developing this afternoon. Relatively mild temperatures well
into the 40s early this morning, with a few 50s, will try to
rise while fighting against lingering clouds and cold advection,
so likely 10 degree or less rise for most, though some parts of
the Delmarva could top 60 where the sun is strongest. Overall,
an improvement over yesterday, and not a bad day for this time
of year... just not great.

High pressure becomes more firmly entrenched tonight, with
clearing across the area. Northerly winds should stay strong
enough to keep us mixed, limiting any fog potential thanks to
all the rain we just had. For the first time since the first of
March, temps will approach freezing for many outlying areas,
though probably won't get there.

Friday starts out sunny with the ridge of high pressure
overhead, but it is fleeting as warm advection begins aloft
ahead of the next storm system. So, sun will fade behind clouds
by day's end, and with the cooler starting point, temps likely
only manage the 50s. A developing easterly wind will make it
noticeably cooler along the coast, with 40s likely on the
beaches.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
The region will feel the influence of weak high pressure into
Friday night, though strengthening surface low pressure will
look to approach from the southwest with time. Surface low
pressure will begin to impact the region Saturday while moving
northeastwards, spreading more rainfall over the region with
time. The bulk of precipitation impact from this surface low
pressure is anticipated for the Saturday night time frame as the
low swings to the northeast and begins to occlude.

Not much to write home about regarding the period of the short
term; the region will feel the influence of weak surface high
pressure during this times. No PoP is therefore expected Friday
night, though some light rain beginning late Friday night for
our more southwestern areas is not out of the question. Skies
will be cloudy Friday night.

Main focus of the short term is Saturday and Saturday night.
Precipitation will begin to spread over the area Saturday,
increasing in intensity and coverage area with time. Likely PoP
is included for most areas of the region Saturday afternoon with
categorical PoP included for the entire region Saturday evening
and Saturday night. Overall, impact from the low pressure and
precipitation itself would likely not be all that impactful.
Deterministic guidance for example does not have any substantial
QPF amounts for the time frame, somewhere in the 0.5-2.0"
range. However, due to multiple previous rain events happening
before the weekend time frame, more precipitation brought to the
region may exacerbate the potential for flooding. Grounds will
already be saturated before the weekend with many rivers already
elevated. More rain could push certain rivers in our region
into flood stage or cause rivers coming down from flood stage to
rise once again. More details regrading the impact of this
system will become a bit more clear within the next couple
forecast updates.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Strong occluding surface low pressure just to the
north/northeast of the region Sunday will continue to push
northeastwards with time. As this occurs, surface high pressure
to our southwest will begin to build over the region. The
ensembles and deterministic models, as well as the general
synoptic pattern, suggest that the rest of the long term then
after Sunday should be dominated by this surface high pressure.

With the forecast location of the surface low pressure Sunday,
some rain for the region could linger, especially during the
morning hours for the northeast areas of our region. Opted to
stick with NBM PoPs for Sunday given this situation. Otherwise,
no precipitation is expected Sunday night through the end of the
long term; no PoP is included.

There is one element of long term forecast which is important
to point out. As low pressure departs to the northeast Sunday,
it will continue intensifying and occluding into Monday as high
pressure builds to the west. Ensembles and deterministic models
support a tight pressure gradient resulting across the region
Sunday, Sunday night, and Monday with breezy northwest winds.
Will need to keep an eye on these periods for the potential of
impactful strong winds, especially for the Monday time frame.
13z NBM currently has wind gusts of 30-35 mph for Sunday and
Sunday night and wind gusts of 40-45 mph for Monday.

.AVIATION /06Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today...IFR most sites early this morning with low clouds and
some mist/drizzle lingering. Slow improvement to VFR by day's
end progressing northwest to southeast across the area,
starting with KRDG and ending with KACY. Vsby should improve
faster than cigs with a north to northwest wind taking hold,
gusting 20-25 kts in the afternoon. Moderate confidence
overall, low confidence on exact timing.

Tonight...VFR. Northerly to northwesterly winds around 10 kts
early dropping to 5 kts late. High confidence.

Friday...VFR. Northerly winds shifting easterly 5-10 kts. High
confidence.

Outlook...

Friday night...Mainly VFR. E/SE winds 5-10 kts. Moderate
confidence.

Saturday...Sub-VFR with -RA/RA. SE winds 12-17 kts with gusts
up to 25 kts. Moderate confidence.

Saturday night...Sub-VFR with -RA/RA. SE winds 15-20 kts with
gusts up to 30 kts. Winds veering W with time. Moderate
confidence.

Sunday...Sub-VFR possible with lingering -RA/RA before

Dense fog advisory for the northern ocean zones in effect until
dawn for visby 1-3 miles. Expect improvement by then.

No marine headlines are expected on Delaware Bay.

.HYDROLOGY...
Minor river flooding is expected at a few river forecast
points, specifically the Rancocas Creek at Pemberton, the
Millstone River at Blackwells Mills, and the Passaic River at
Pine Brook. Flood warnings have been issued at these locations
as they may, or have already, hit flood stage by early morning.
A few more points in the Passaic and Raritan basins may get
into minor flooding. Some moderate flooding, primarily on the
Millstone River, is possible.

Given wet antecedent conditions and another 1 to 2 inches of
rain expected, a Flood Watch is in effect into early this
morning, though it is likely to be cancelled once the last bands
of rain have passed. Rain amounts have come down slightly, but
we are still expecting a higher and faster response due to the
saturated soils.

Once we get through the rain early this morning, another round
of widespread rain could result in additional flood concerns
Saturday and Sunday.

We attach words like MINOR and MODERATE to river flooding. What
do these words mean?

MINOR FLOODING: Minimal to no property damage, but some public
threat can be expected (e.g. inundation of roads).

MODERATE FLOODING: Some inundation of structures and roads near
streams/rivers are expected. Evacuations of people and/or the
transfer of property to higher elevations can be anticipated.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
While no coastal flooding is expected through today, there is
an increasing risk (50-70%) of coastal flooding Friday through
Saturday. A period of onshore flow will coincide with higher
astronomical tides due to the new moon on Saturday. Astronomical
high tides are only near 1 foot below minor coastal flood
thresholds, and tidal anomalies are anticipated to rise to near
1-2 feet by Friday and especially by Saturday.

Widespread minor coastal flooding is currently forecast
beginning with the Friday morning high tide, primarily for the
Atlantic coast and perhaps Delaware Bay. By the Saturday
morning/afternoon high tide, widespread minor coastal flooding
is forecast for all tidal areas of the Atlantic coast, Delaware
Bay, and the tidal Delaware River. Widespread minor coastal
flooding is likely to occur again in the same areas with the
Saturday evening/night high tide as well, as strong onshore
winds persist just ahead of a cold front. However, the late
Saturday high tide will be the lower of the two astronomical
high tides, so impacts should be less than the early Saturday
high tide. The forecast Sunday has become trickier with a
slower-moving system currently expected. Depending on the timing
of the departure, winds may not shift offshore until later in
the day, thus elevating coastal flooding concerns once again for
the Sunday morning high tide.

Depending on the details, some spotty moderate coastal flooding
impacts could be experienced at the usual suspect locations
with southeast winds and rainfall runoff exacerbating the flood
impacts. These may include the tidal Delaware River, Barnegat
Bay, and Little Assawoman Bay.

Some spotty minor coastal flooding is possible along the
eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay, however confidence on any
flooding here is much lower (20-30%) at this time, as guidance
currently does not support any flooding.
