Rain coverage increases this afternoon with scattered showers
and gusty winds lasting into the weekend. Wind Advisory in effect
from noon Friday to 10 AM Saturday. Cold temperatures thereafter
into early next week.

Current radar showing numerous rain showers making their way
through the Bay Area and will gradually increase in coverage
southward through this afternoon. Open cell convective pattern
behind the front evident on visible satellite suggests an
isolated threat for thunder this evening, as will likely be the
case Friday evening as well. Winds associated with the front today
will be gusty for a period, but are expected to decrease slightly
going into tonight. A second round of more widespread rainfall
and gusty winds enters the picture Friday midday as the main cold
front moves through. Robust southwest 925mb flow moves in Friday
afternoon, peaking at 50-55 kts around 5-8 PM. Expecting less
mixing down of winds into the valleys this time around with the
direction being SW. The valleys will still be breezy, but advisory
level winds look to be mostly confined to the coastline and the
higher terrain. Winds gradually weaken overnight Friday into
Saturday morning.

Things begin to quiet down on Saturday as the post-frontal chilly
environment sets in. Scattered showers linger through the day, but
most of the rain will have already fallen by midday. The tail end
of the precip will bring the chance for snow above about 2,000 in
the North Bay and about 3,000 feet in the Bay Area as the cold air
finally arrives. Locations such as Mt. Hamilton and Mt. St. Helena
could see a few inches of wet snow by Saturday afternoon.
Overnight lows Saturday night into Sunday look to be in the
mid-30s to lower 40s across much of the area with the coldest
temps in the interior North Bay. The coldest night of the stretch
will be Sunday night into Monday morning with temps in the North
Bay and interior Monterey and San Benito nearing the freezing
mark with mid-to-upper 30s elsewhere, lower 40s along the coast.
Beyond the weekend, guidance continues to advertise a wet pattern
going through the middle of the week with additional light rain
chances.

Mix of MVFR and VFR conditions across the board. Showers have
started to move through the North Bay and will move southward
throughout the day. Southwest winds have started to pick up
throughout the Bay Area ahead of today's frontal passage with gusts
up to 25-30 knots possible. Minimal wind shear concerns with today's
system but wind shear concerns look to increase just after the end
of this TAF period. Temporary dips in visibility and ceiling heights
may occur if a shower moves directly over the airport.
Vicinity of SFO...MVFR conditions expected through the rest of today
with VFR conditions returning overnight. Strong gusty southwest
winds are expected through this afternoon. As of 18Z, gusts at SFO
are expected to peak around 30 knots. Given the potential for
isolated higher gusts to mix down, will continue to monitor in case
an AWW is needed. Light rain is expected through the
afternoon/evening today with dips in ceiling heights and visibility
possible as showers approach the airport.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...Currently VFR conditions expected to
transition to MVFR conditions for the majority of the TAF period.
SE/SW winds are starting to pick up at MRY and SNS with gusts up to
25 knots possible through this evening. By late morning, SW winds
will dominate at both MRY and SNS and continue through tomorrow
morning. Showers are expected to move into the Central Coast by
early afternoon and will linger through the end of the TAF
period. Moderate confidence that VFR conditions will return
towards the end of the period.

Fresh southwesterly winds will increase throughout the day to
become strong and gusty. Scattered showers have begun over the
northern waters early and will spread southwards throughout the
day. Wave heights will start to build today and continue building
into the weekend with peak wave heights anticipated Friday into
Saturday. Unsettled weather will continue through the weekend with
fresh and gusty winds, rain showers, and wave heights between 15
to 20 feet. Conditions over the waters will be hazardous for small
craft. Come the beginning of the next work week, conditions begin
to dry out and winds ease, becoming more westerly.
