.UPDATE...
Issued 840 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2024
Stratus continues to advect northeast across portions of
southeast and east-central Wisconsin this evening. This is
helping keep temperatures locally warmer, in the lower 40s, this
evening. As we lose these clouds overnight, lows areawide will
fall into the low to mid 30s.

.SHORT TERM...
Issued 214 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2024
Tonight through Saturday night:
The shortwave trough over central IL will track across nrn IN
this evening with perhaps a few sprinkles this afternoon over se
WI. A large shield of stratus clouds over central IL is then
expected to track nwd on sly winds into srn WI for tnt. Modest
sly winds and clouds will make for a relatively mild night.
An upper ridge will build across the Great Lakes for Sat while
the large upper trough moving into the Pacific NW initiates
cyclogenesis in the high plains of CO and WY late on Sat.
Increasing swly 925-850 mb flow and warm advection should blow
out the stratus sometime Sat AM. Mild temps in the upper 50s to
lower 60s are still expected while dewpoints will stay
stubbornly low, but minimum RH should still rise to 37-47
percent. Sly sfc winds will then pick up further late Sat nt as
the low moves across SD. The continued warm advection will keep
temps in the lower to middle 40s Sat nt.
Gehring

.LONG TERM...
Issued 214 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2024
Sunday through Friday:
The 991 MB sfc low over ern SD at 12Z Sun will then deepen and
occlude into srn Manitoba by 00Z Mon as a 987 MB low. Breezy sly
winds gusting to 40 mph will advect a 558 DM thickness ridge
into srn WI with high temps still looking to reach the lower 70s
well inland from Lake MI. A plume of higher dewpoints will surge
ahead of the approaching cold front but winds and mixing will
keep the dewpoints down for a while. Thus minimum RH values
could drop to 35-40 percent. The combination of high winds, warm
temps, low RH values, and dry conditions will make for elevated
fire wx conditions well inland from the lake.
The weakening cold front will then slowly move across srn WI Sun
nt but rain chances will remain just 20-40 percent. The front
will then stall while a sw-ne sfc trough noses into srn WI from
the srn Great Plains. A broad 700 mb trough will slowly move
east across the region and eventually move the front to the east
for Tue. Moisture and elevated instability will be sufficient
for rounds of showers and scattered storms Mon-Mon nt as long
as this overall synoptic scenario holds.
Afterward a large w-e area of high pressure will mostly prevail
from Ontario to Quebec with enely winds over the Great Lakes
and srn WI. Temps will cool from the weekend but still remain
well above normal especially inland from the lake. Swly flow
aloft will then lift a low pressure area toward srn WI for Fri-
Sat with chances for rain.

.AVIATION...
Issued 840 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2024
A pocket of MVFR ceilings continues to lift northeast across
southeast and east-central Wisconsin. These ceilings will hang
around as we head into the overnight hours, but skies will
eventually clear out during the early morning hours on Sunday.
Winds remain southerly for the majority of the forecast period.

.MARINE...
Issued 840 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2024
Evening update to marine products included the issuance of a
Gale Watch for central portions of Lake Michigan for Sunday and
Sunday evening.
Low pressure around 29.5 inches will move across northern Ontario
tonight and weaken to 29.7 inches. Southerly winds up to 30 kts
will continue over Lake Michigan through this evening and may
briefly reach gale force over far northern Lake Michigan during
this time. Breezy southerly winds will continue for late tonight
into Saturday night but below gale force.
Southerly gusts may reach gale force Sunday into Sunday night as
low pressure of 29.2 inches moves from the eastern Dakotas into
Manitoba. An associated cold front will gradually cross the Upper
Great Lakes through Tuesday, with winds becoming northerly
Tuesday night into Wednesday.
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect north of Port
Washington until 1 AM CST Saturday. Another advisory will likely
be needed late Saturday night into Sunday night but sly gales
will also be possible on Sunday.
