A complex system will impact South FL today and Saturday bringing
periods of heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms to the area. At
the surface, there is one weak low pressure system over the southern
Gulf which will approach the Straits later today and tonight.
Another low pressure system is across the NW Gulf and that system
will drift east across the northern Gulf today before lifting up
into the Mid-Atlantic region overnight into Saturday morning. At the
upper levels, a shortwave will slowly drift east across the deep
south US, with the trough axis not cross FL until the second half of
the weekend.

The main player for today's heavy rain will be with the surface low
approaching the FL Straits. The first wave of heavy rain will cross
South FL early this morning as a warm front lifts north across the
area, and then several more waves of showers and thunderstorms are
expected throughout the day and overnight into early Saturday
morning. Guidance at this point is in fairly good agreement that the
highest overall rainfall amounts are likely to be across the far
southern portion of the peninsula and across the FL Keys. Rainfall
totals of 2-4 inches with locally higher amounts are possible from
Alligator Alley southward, while areas north of Alligator Alley are
forecast to see roughly 1-3 inches of rain. With forecast soundings
continuing to show deep moisture throughout the column and anomalous
PWAT values in excess of 1.8 inches, expect high rainfall rates in
any thunderstorms today and Saturday. A Flood Watch is in effect for
Collier, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Mainland Monroe through Saturday
as repeated rounds of heavy rain may cause flooding concerns across
urban and poor drainage locations.

In addition to the flood threat, there is a chance for severe
weather today and Saturday as well. Gradient winds outside of
thunderstorms will be gusting to 40 mph especially across the metro
where a Wind Advisory is in effect through Saturday, but vigorous
convection in a few storms could result in damaging wind gusts up to
60 mph. A tornado can't be ruled out as well, especially near the
coasts.

With plenty of rainfall and cloud cover across the area today,
temperatures will be below normal with highs ranging from the lower
70s around the lake to mid and upper 70s across the rest of South
FL. Overnight lows will range from the mid 60s to around 70.

While the first low moves off to the east of the area early Saturday
morning, unsettled weather will continue as a cold front associated
with the system in the Mid-Atlantic approaches the area from the NW
and crosses the area during the evening. Additional showers and
thunderstorms are expected along and ahead of the front, and any
additional heavy rain may continue to cause flooding concerns. High
temperatures will remain a touch below normal with most locations
reaching the upper 70s to around 80.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday night through Thursday)

Sunday will feature a welcomed change in the environment in contrast
to the wet and gloomy weekend. A vigorous short-wave trough will
eject into the western Atlantic waters, and an upper level ridge
will quickly build behind this feature. A cooler and drier airmass
will overspread South Florida, with dewpoints dropping into the 60s
and mild afternoon high temperatures in the upper 70s. The
aforementioned upper ridge will act as a blocking feature to
preclude short-wave impulses from steering towards South Florida,
maintaining mostly dry conditions through the early week period.

Winds will continue to veer out of the east to southeast as the week
progresses in conjunction with a ribbon of PVA (positive vorticity
advection) that may eject into the Gulf of Mexico by the middle of
next week. This could spawn a round of shower and thunderstorms, but
a bit too early to speculate on this given the uncertain nature of
the longer range period.

Afternoon maximum temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s can be
expected for Sunday and Monday, with a gradual warming trend being
realized as winds subtlety shift out of the south. Afternoon high
temperatures will inch closer into the low/mid 80s by the middle and
end of next week.

Showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage as the morning
progresses and will be widespread across the region through the
afternoon and evening hours. Conditions will deteriorate to MVFR
and possibly IFR at times through the afternoon hours and heading
into tonight as well. SE winds will range between 15 and 20 kts
with gusts up to 25 kts today, however, these winds could be
erratic and could gust even higher in and around thunderstorms.

Hazardous marine conditions expected today and lasting into the
weekend across the area waters. SCA conditions for all Atlantic and
Gulf waters through Saturday as southerly winds increase to 20-30
kts across the Atlantic and 20-25 kts across the Gulf waters. A Gale
Watch is in effect from 06Z Saturday to 00Z Sunday for the Atlantic
waters for the possibility of frequent gusts to 40 kts. Seas build
to 3-5 ft in the Gulf today, with 4-8 ft expected in the Atlantic
today and 5-10 ft on Saturday. The hazardous conditions are expected
to continue through the end of the weekend.

A high risk of rip currents will continue across the Atlantic Coast
beaches through Saturday evening due to strong onshore flow today
and increasing swell on Saturday. As winds become more west
southwesterly this weekend, the rip current risk over the Gulf Coast
beaches will increase beginning on Saturday. Dangerous surf
conditions is possible early next week for the Palm beaches.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for Atlantic coastal waters,
southeast Florida, southern Florida, southwest Florida and Gulf of
Mexico.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

Heavy Rain: Multiple rounds of heavy rain is possible today and
tonight, especially over far southern Florida. This may lead to
instances of flooding, especially in urban and poor drainage
locations.

Thunderstorms: Scattered thunderstorms are expected today and
tonight. A few storms may become strong to severe with damaging wind
gusts. An isolated tornado can't be ruled out.

Marine: Hazardous marine conditions in the form of high winds and
seas are expected in both the Gulf and Atlantic waters.

Rip Currents: There is a high risk of rip currents for all Atlantic
beaches today, and an elevated risk will develop later today along
the Gulf coast beaches.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.

Scattered thunderstorms will continue through Saturday. A few storms
may be strong to severe with damaging wind gusts. An isolated tornado
is also possible.

Heavy rain will remain possible through at least mid day Saturday.
Localized flooding will remain a concern, especially in urban and
poor drainage locations.

An elevated risk of rip current will remain in place for all South
Florida beaches this weekend and will linger into early next week.
Dangerous surf conditions are possible along the Palm beaches early
next week.

Hazardous marine conditions in the form of high winds and seas will
remain for all Gulf and Atlantic waters through the weekend.
Hazardous conditions will continue in the Atlantic through early next
week.

Minor coastal flooding is possible during the high tide cycle early
Saturday along the Collier and Mainland Monroe coasts.
