(Through Late Sunday Night) Issued at 212 PM CST Sat Feb 3 2024 Latest satellite imagery is showing a band of clouds extending from the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Central Plains ahead of an upper low over the southern High Plains. These clouds are mainly mid and high clouds across our area that are filtering the early February sun. Temperatures today have still climbed above normal even with the clouds and the easterly winds. The HREF is consistent in keeping the track of the upper low moving into Louisiana by tomorrow afternoon which keeps the best moisture and ascent to our south. HREF precipitation probabilities are showing a tight north-south gradient over central and southeast Missouri. This is likely because of the track of the storm and the dry east-northeast low-level flow. Will keep a 30-60% chance of light rain late tonight into Sunday along and southwest of a Jefferson City to Fredericktown line. Dry weather is expected on Sunday night as subsidence sets in behind the upper low. Lows tonight will remain above normal ranging from the mid 30s over northeast Missouri and west central Illinois to the mid 40s over southeast Missouri. Highs tomorrow will be slightly cooler with highs around 50 because of extensive cloud cover. Britt && .LONG TERM... (Monday through Next Saturday) Issued at 212 PM CST Sat Feb 3 2024 Key Messages: There remains reasonable agreement with both the deterministic and the respective ensemble model runs that a upper ridge will move across the central CONUS early to middle of next week. This will bring dry weather to the region before an upper trough lifts out of western CONUS bringing an attendant front across Missouri and Illinois on Friday. There will be an increase in moisture and lift ahead of the front as 40-70% of ensemble members are showing rain chances late Thursday and Thursday night before dropping off to 20-30% on Friday into Saturday in zonal flow with weaker embedded shortwaves behind the front. Some of the ensemble members are also showing some weak CAPE ahead of the front, but will hold off mentioning thunder this far out as I am not confident in the timing of thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to remain above normal through the period with ensemble mean 850mb temperatures starting around 5C early in the week before climbing into the 5-10C range Wednesday and Thursday. Low level flow will turn out of the southwest behind a retreating surface high on Wednesday and Thursday which will cause temperatures to be 15 to 20 degrees above normal.
