.SYNOPSIS...13/234 AM.
It will be a sunny day today save for some morning low clouds. Gusty
north winds will continue in the mountains and may spill into the
valleys. A moderate to strong Santa Ana wind event will develop
on Thursday. Breezy conditions will continue into the weekend.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-FRI)...13/312 AM.
Today will start the transition into an extended windy period. An
upper low will move out of ID and into NV while a large east PAC
ridge moves closer to the west coast. SFC high pressure will build
into OR and a 3 to 4 mb offshore push from the north will develop.
Advisory level north winds have developed across the northern mtns
and the SBA south coast. These winds will continue through the
day. The north winds have created a grip of upslope clouds all
around the Kern county borders and there is enough upslope lift to
generate a slight chc (20 percent) of a shower. There are some
stubborn low clouds hanging on across portions of the LA/VTA
csts/vlys despite the northerly flow (They are most prevalent
where trrn blocks the north flow) These low clouds will be gone by
late morning and there will be sunny skies in the afternoon.
Increased hgts and offshore flow will bring 5 to 10 degrees of
warming the VTA and LA csts/vlys will the SLO/SBA csts/vlys will
see 2 to 4 degree of warming. Most areas will remain a few degrees
blo normal but the LA/VTA coasts will warm to above normal.
Overnight the upper low will drop down through NV to a point near
the AZ/NV/CA border triple point. This position will bring mdt-stg
upper level winds to VTA/LA county and set the state for a moderate
to strong Santa event Thursday. At the sfc there will be 4 to 5 mb
of offshore flow from both the N and E. This offshore flow will
combine with the upper level flow and will be strengthened by a
healthy dose of cold air advection. There is very good confidence
that warning level 60 to 65 mph local 70 mph gusts will develop in
the mtns to the north and east of the Santa Clarita vly as well as
the southeast portion of the VTA mtns and the Santa Susanna mtns
and these areas have been upgraded to high wind warnings. Not as
confident for the remainder of the areas in the watch and left the
high wind watch in place for those areas. The product LAXNPWLOX
will contain all the information on the current warnings, watches
and advisories and will be updated with future advisories and
warnings. Max temps will continue to warm across SLO and NW SBA
county with the offshore flow, but current fcsts now show so much
cool air advection that much of LA/VTA will cool slightly.
The upper low will not move much on Friday but the cold air
advection will end and the offshore gradients will weaken (esp
from the N) It will be a breezy day but the winds will be much
weaker than on Thursday and only a few wind advisories will be
likely. More and more mdls are showing an increase moisture
moving into the LA mtns and there will likely be some build ups
and a low but non zero chc of a shower or TSTM (5-10 percent)
.LONG TERM (SAT-TUE)...13/330 AM.
Models all forecast the upper low to wobble around the CA/AZ
border through Monday, with offshore flow bringing clear skies
some warming to most of the area each day. Sunday and Monday will
see max temps in the 70s with an outside chc of an 80 or 81
degrees. These max temps are 4 to 8 degrees above normal.
More and more ensemble solutions bring enough moisture over the
VTA and esp the LA mtns and afternoon build ups now are likely and
there is now 20 percent chc of a shower or TSTM over the eastern
San Gabriel's Saturday afternoon. Given these trends would not be
surprised to see the chc and coverage of TSTMs increase on Sat and
Sun.
The low should move off to the east by Tuesday. The ensembles give
a wide variety of possible solutions so there is not a great deal
of confidence in the forecast. Right now it looks like there will
be some morning marine layer clouds and some cooling. Most
ensembles favor max temps remaining a few degrees above normal.

.AVIATION...13/0545Z.
At 06Z, there was no marine layer or marine inversion at KLAX.
However, there was a moist layer up to around 6000 feet.
Widespread low clouds in coastal and locally in the valleys
Pt. Conception, and in most areas north of Pt Conception. Conds
were mostly MVFR, except locally IFR north of Pt. Conception, and
IFR to VLIFR in the foothills and mtns. Expect clouds to decrease
overnight, especially in the valleys, as northerly flow develops.
Clouds should clear in most areas by mid/late morning Wed.
KLAX...Moderate confidence in 06Z TAF. There is a 30% chance that
cigs will scatter out as early as 09Z. There is a 10% chance of IFR
cigs 09Z-15Z Thu. Light N winds from 10Z-18Z Wed may briefly shift
to the E up to 6 kt from 11Z-15Z Wed (20% chance). There is a 30%
chance of an E wind component of 6-8kt from 09Z-12Z Thu.
KBUR...Low to moderate confidence in 06Z TAF. There is a 30-40%
chance of BKN015-BKN025 cigs from 08Z-16Z Wed.

For the Outer Waters, moderate to high confidence in current
forecast. Tonight through Thursday night, high confidence in a
combination of Small Craft Advisory (SCA) level seas and winds.
There is a 50-80% chance of Gale force winds tonight through
Wednesday evening, especially across PZZ673/676. So, a GALE
WARNING is in effect for PZZ673/676 and a GALE WATCH remains in
effect for PZZ670 (as the confidence in Gale force winds is not
quite as high). For Friday through Sunday, high confidence in
winds and seas remaining below SCA levels.
For the Inner Waters north of Point Sal, high confidence in
current forecast. Tonight through Thursday afternoon, a
combination of SCA level winds and seas is expected. For Thursday
night through Sunday, winds and seas will remain below SCA levels.
For the Inner Waters south of Point Conception, moderate to high
confidence in current forecast. For tonight, there is a 60-80%
chance of SCA level winds across western sections, especially the
western half of the Santa Barbara Channel. For Wednesday and
Wednesday night, there will be a 60-80% chance of SCA level winds
across the western half of the Santa Barbara Channel with high
confidence in winds and seas remaining below SCA levels elsewhere.
For Thursday, there is a 70-90% chance of SCA level northeast
winds from Ventura to Santa Monica as well as south of Palos
Verdes (with winds potentially impacting Catalina Island)and there
is a 40-60% chance of Gale force winds. For Thursday night
through Sunday, high confidence in winds and seas remaining below
SCA levels for all of the southern Inner Waters.
