...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 7 PM CDT 
TUESDAY...
...HEAT ADVISORY HAS EXPIRED...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 
  110-115F expected.

* WHERE...Portions of southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana, and 
  central, north central, northwest, and west central Mississippi.

* WHEN...From 10 AM to 7 PM CDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during 
  extreme heat and high humidity events.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of 
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car 
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose 
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning 
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and 
heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and 
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in 
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat 
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an 
emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Not much to talk about in regards to the forecast package for this
morning. Global guidance continues to highlight an upper low to the
northwest and building high pressure over the northern Gulf. This
will help maintain SW flow regime over the area today with continued
rain chances (between 40-45%) and afternoon thunderstorms. Local
radar scans show a line of scattered showers along with a few
storms tracking northeastward across the MS Delta, along with a
few parishes in northeast Louisiana. 12Z morning sounding
observations indicate a saturated atmosphere with the air parcel
breaking through the capping inversion around 950 mb. This will
allow for mid-low level clouds to occur across central MS. A quick
look at GOES 16 visible satellite imagery shows ongoing cloud
cover across our entire forecast area. With this in mind, the
persistent cloud cover will keep temperatures below seasonal norms
with afternoon highs in the upper 80s in most locations. Areas in
the southeast will see temperatures in the low 90s. /CR/

Today and tonight: Upper low to the northwest and high pressure
over the northern Gulf will maintain SW flow regime over our area
through today with continued rain chances and afternoon
thunderstorms. Persistent cloud cover will keep temperatures
mostly below seasonal norms with highs generally in the 80s in
most locations, though we begin to see warmer temperatures today
in the southeast (low 90s). Thunderstorms should taper off with
waning instability late evening. Our SW flow regime finally begins
to transition tonight to a warmer and drier pattern in store for
next week. Dry air pushes into the midlevels as upper ridging
begins to build from the west and should reduce rain chances from
west to east through early Monday morning./SAS/

Monday through Saturday: A significant change in the weather
pattern will take place for the upcoming work week into next
weekend with wet and relatively mild conditions coming to an
abrupt end while heat makes an unwelcome return.

Confidence is high that a large, strong subtropical high will
build over the Southern Plains with a ridge axis extending
eastward across the lower MS Valley as we go through this week.
With H850 temperatures reaching the lower 20s deg C, surface
temperatures should have no trouble reaching the upper 90s to
perhaps near 100. And after the very wet pattern recently
experienced, evapotranspiration should support a very humid
boundary layer in the increasingly stagnant airmass and a
stifling combination of heat and humidity. In terms of rainfall,
the increased large scale subsidence and anticyclonic flow should
help to limit diurnal convective rainfall coverage.

For now have increased the heat risk level in the hazard graphics
to "elevated" for Monday and maintained that through the
remainder of the forecast. It is likely that some portions of the
area will need to be increased to the "significant" level,
especially by mid/late week. Stay tuned for hot weather headlines
with heat advisories being necessary as early as Monday, and
perhaps excessive heat warnings later in the week. /EC/

Current radar scans show some isolated showers and storms near the
Pine Belt. With that in mind, all TAF sites will see VFR conditions
prevailing to start off the TAF period. VFR conditions will prevail
across central MS through 23Z Sunday. Several southern sites (HBG,
HEZ, and PIB) will start to see ceilings drop to MVFR starting
around 00Z Monday as clouds continue to track to the east. These
MVFR cigs will last until 02Z Monday. Ceilings will start to
improve to VFR status by 03Z Monday. VFR conditions will continue
to prevail across central MS through Monday morning. Winds will
prevail from the southwest around 3 to 5 mph. /CR/
