Snow will develop late this evening and continue through Thursday
morning, mainly for areas north of Highway 24. Accumulations of 1 to
3 inches are expected, heaviest near the Michigan border. Another
system moves through Thursday night into Friday morning with
additional accumulations and impacts to travel expected. Significant
lake effect snow is possible Friday into Friday night across
northwest Indiana and far southwest Michigan.

Key Message:
* Snow expected (0.5-3") later this evening through Thursday
morning, mainly north of US 24. Roads may become slick and snow
covered.
Attention remains on where a narrow band of snow will develop under
the right entrance region of a strong ~160 kt jet. A model consensus
does suggest a developing frontal circulation developing near the
Michigan state border initially later this evening into the early
overnight. Some slight backing of flow and increasing moisture aloft
in advance of a quick moving shortwave tracking east toward the Mid
MS Valley may also allow the snow to fill in along the tightening
baroclinic zone, eventually shifting southeast toward the US 24
corridor by later tonight and Thursday morning. Any banding
shouldn't get out of control given rather stable conditions above
the active frontogenetic layer. Overall expectations are for 1-3"
north of Hwy 6, with lesser amounts as you go south. Minor travel
disruptions in time for the Thu AM commute are expected, mainly
north of US 24. Mainly dry with highs into the mid-upper 20s then
for Thursday afternoon as the shortwave and front push off to the
east.

Key Messages:
* Another round of snow (2-4") moves through Thursday night into
Friday morning with impacts to travel expected.
* There is the potential for significant lake effect snow in our
north-northwest snow belts Friday into Friday night.
* The pattern breaks next week with warmer temperatures and periodic
chances for rain.
PV lobe over northern Ontario will finally release south and link up
with a separate shortwave undercutting it, allowing for another
round of system snow Thursday night into Friday morning. An inverted
trough looks to hang back westward from a developing weak sfc low
over the Central Appalachians or eastern Ohio during this time,
with deep layer system relative isentropic ascent in advance of the
aforementioned upper level waves allowing at least light snow to
blossom and linger over the area for a 2-4" type snow event for
most. A Winter Weather Advisory may be needed at some point for
this event.
LES remains the big ticket item for Friday and Friday night in our
nnw snow belts. All the thermodynamic parameters appear favorable
with lake-700 mb delta T's near 30C and lake induced equilibrium
levels to near 10 kft. Deep northerly flow with a Lake Superior
connection also obviously a plus with limited shear and a light
enough gradient to support a strong land breeze convergence zone,
with a separate lake aggregate trough also setting up along the
eastern shore of Lake MI.
The evolution and organization of the banding remains uncertain with
mesovorts and slight adjustments to flow trajectories potentially
causing disruptions. With that said, did opt to hoist a Winter Storm
Watch for heavy LES for several of our nw zones, with La Porte
County and southwest Berrien County likely enjoying a longer
residence time within the dominant band. Snow totals could easily
exceed a foot here, with lesser confidence elsewhere. LES
impacts/intensity should then taper off later Friday night into
Saturday as drying and subsidence eventually takes its toll on
inversion heights.
This weekend will feature times of sub-zero wind chills with this
last shot of arctic air. Luckily this won't be nearly as chilly as
the early week cold with highs still making the teens to near 20.
Warmer and wet at times then to follow next week.

reports of flurries at a few locations, including a brief
appearance at KSBN. Snow should quickly materialize over the next
couple of hours with deteriorating conditions. Delayed onset at

There should be a lull in the precip, but MVFR cigs will hold on
prior to the arrival of the next round of light snow arriving
towards the end of the period.
