A busy weather pattern is expected the next couple of days.
Last night's round of heavy rainfall has ceased with a broad
swath 1 to 2 inches across the US-30 corridor, tapering off to
the south and north of there. This rainfall, in combination with
additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms over the next
24-36 hours will result in Minor river flooding in some areas,
and perhaps some urban and small stream issues too. With near
saturated antecedant soil moisture, and an additional 1.5-2.0
inches (could be locally heavier in isolated spots), will opt to
hoist a Flood Watch effective from this evening through
tomorrow afternoon for portions of Central Indiana.
As discussed in the previous shift as a possibility, latest 12Z
HREF has helped to increase confidence in drawing in low-level
moisture tomorrow afternoon out ahead of the surface low. A
favorable kinematic environment will be in place with 65-75kt of
0-6km bulk shear. CAM guidance suggests storm initiation will
likely occur in west central or central Indiana during midday
tomorrow, most likely remaining discrete or simi-discrete as
they traverse eastward. There is growing concern that as these
storms move into the southeastern part of our CWA (generally
south of a line from Marion, IN to Ottawa, OH) that they will
move into a more unstable and, as as a result, more favorable
environment for severe weather including a tornado risk. This
has been reflected in a rather substantial change in the Day 2
Convective Outlook issued by the Storm Prediction Center. Please

In the wake of this low, colder air will wrap into the region.
Cold sounding profiles with saturated DGZ suggests we are more
than likely dealing with snow being the main precip type and
this is the main precip type favored by blended model guidance,
particularly along and west of US-31. To the east, a rain/snow
mix is more likely, but wouldn't be surprised to see a few hours
of all snow for many areas. Overall, with the warm temps that
we've had recently and the likelihood that this much of the
snow will fall during the daylight hours of the high Spring sun
angle, impacts will be little to none. It'll be a windy day
though with gusts 30-40 mph across much of the area, and very
dangerous conditions will exist on Lake Michigan.
The upper low will move east and northeast, but medium range
models continue to show another wave rotating around the low and
dropping south Friday. While a dry passage is expected, this
will slow down the warming, but still allow highs into the 40s.
Stronger upper level ridging commences to end the period with a
return to above normal temperatures.

Predominantly IFR to MVFR conditions at the TAF sites, with low
ceilings lingering through this evening. Another round of rain
and embedded thunderstorms moves in late this evening into the
overnight. The best chance for storms will be at KFWA, which
I've included VCTS and a prob30 from 23z-03z. There is some
uncertainty tomorrow morning on when showers will end, and how
much of a break there will be in the rain (more scattered storms
are expected beyond 18Z Tuesday, just outside of the TAF
forecast cycle) Even through the end of the TAF forecast period,
ceilings will remain IFR.
