.SYNOPSIS...
A couple cold fronts will move through later today and tonight
bringing an end to the showers and isolated storms. Another
disturbance could bring a few showers Friday. High pressure
will then gradually return into mid next week bringing dry
weather as well as increasing temperatures to well above normal
levels starting early next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
A sharp mid-level shortwave and complex frontal system centered over
the Ohio Valley will shift eastward through the period, with an
initial cold front crossing the area early tonight. Showers and
isolated thunderstorms near the coast will gradually come to an end
late this afternoon while additional showers and isolated storms
will remain possible through this evening until the first cold front
pushes through, behind which clouds will break up. Winds turn WSW
behind the first front with an initial surge of drier air early in
the night, then a second cold front is expected to turn winds more
westerly and bring a second surge of drier air late in the night,
clearing skies out close to sunrise. Low temperatures will be driven
by advection and should fall into the mid-50s to around 60F range.

On Friday, subsidence and dry air on the backside of the shortwave
will yield a mostly sunny morning with breezy west winds continuing.
During the afternoon, vertical mixing should be quite deep, allowing
for gusts up to 30-35 mph. A stratocu deck should pivot through from
the northwest during the afternoon and evening as a potent shortwave
provides some lift. Light showers are possible across our northern
zones during the late afternoon as well, but deep inverted-V
profiles should preclude much, if any, measurable precip. High temps
will be driven by the vertical mixing, with low-mid 70s
expected.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Highlights:
*Possible elevated fire danger Saturday

Confidence: Moderate to High

Details: Deep layer troughing will shift offshore Friday night with
a few light showers possible into the evening, mainly in NC. High
pressure will then build in through Sat night with dry conditions
and temperatures staying fairly close to normal with highs generally
in the lower to mid 70s and lows near 50. Breezy conditions will
persist with some gusts over 25 mph likely Saturday afternoon,
especially in NC. Given the dry and gusty conditions Saturday we
could see an enhanced fire danger develop depending on the fine fuel
conditions.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Highlights:
*Much above normal temps
*Possible elevated fire danger early in the week

Confidence: Moderate to High

Details: Weak troughing/zonal flow aloft is expected to end the
weekend with more ridging thereafter which will help keep it dry.
Temps will stay well above normal with at least lower 80s inland
Sunday and mid 80s inland Monday through Thursday. An elevated fire
danger is possible through at least Sunday due to the low RH/gusty
winds but much depends on the fine fuel conditions.

.AVIATION /20Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
MVFR cigs are expected to persist through the remainder of the
day with IFR vis/cigs possible at times, particularly in
heavier showers or storms. In addition, breezy conditions will
continue with gusts up to 35-40 kts outside of showers and
potentially up to 45-50kts in the strongest convection. Showers
and occasional thunder will mainly affect the coastal terminals
although thunder cannot be ruled out at the inland terminals.
This evening, clouds will break and become VFR as a cold front
sweeps through, although gusty west winds will continue through
the remainder of the TAF period amidst VFR conditions.

Extended Outlook...Gusty winds remain a concern through
Saturday, but otherwise, VFR is expected through the period.

.MARINE...
Through Friday... Southerly gale force gusts are expected to
continue into this evening until a cold front slides through from
the west, veering the flow to WSW and decreasing gusts just below
gale force. Tonight, gusts may occasional touch 34 kts until a
secondary cold front slides through late in the night, which will
bring winds down to 25-30 kts for Friday. Meanwhile, seas will peak
in the 7-11 ft range this evening before offshore flow takes over
and commences a gradual decline of the wave heights. However, SCA
conditions are expected through the remainder of the period after
the Gale Warning expires at 04Z.

Friday night through Tuesday...Small Craft Advisory conditions
should linger Friday night/early Saturday before more significant
improvement occurs later Saturday as high pressure builds in. Should
see an increase in winds/seas again early next week as the pressure
gradient tightens again but likely not enough for another Small
Craft Advisory.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Strong southerly flow is expected to drive minor tidal flooding
at downtown Wilmington for this evening's high tide. Although
the beaches will be close to minor, the strong southerly flow
veering to southwesterly should prevent minor flooding at the
beaches. Behind tonight's cold fronts, breezy offshore flow may
produce blowout tides (water levels reaching -1 ft MLLW or
lower) at the beaches for the next 3 low tide cycles (Friday
morning through Saturday morning).
