.SYNOPSIS...
Dry weather will prevail through midweek next week as high pressure
remains in control. A warming trend will develop this weekend
with temperatures rising above normal for all of next week.

&&

.UPDATE...
North to northeasterly boundary layer flow is a bit stronger
than last night. A less pronounced nocturnal inversion plus a
warming airmass should keep lows from dipping as cool as we saw
last night. The best performing near term guidance over the past
five days has been the GFS LAMP MOS, so I've blended it into the
previous forecast which has bumped forecast lows up a degree or
so.

Over the coastal waters, winds out at the offshore buoys are
running 2-3 knots higher than previously forecast. Model trends
are for winds to increase a bit more overnight. I've adjusted
the forecast accordingly, now indicating a solid 15 knots with
gusts to 20 knots.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
High pressure will continue to
dominate the weather as it extends down from the north as deep low
well offshore drifts farther out to sea through Saturday. The winds
will maintain there N-NE direction remaining fairly light, mainly 10
mph or less, but gusty, especially in the afternoon along the coast.
The column remains extremely dry with pcp water values less than a
half inch and therefore will continue with cloudless, pcp-free
forecast.

The airmass will continue to modify slowly with dewpoints rebounding
from the 30s to the 40s through Saturday as winds draw a little bit
more moisture from a more NE component. Tonight the winds should
drop off, although boundary layer winds look a bit stronger than
last night. This should help keep temps from plummeting too much,
but the clear skies and light winds will allow for another chilly
night with temps down to the lower to mid 40s most places, but
traditionally colder places and wind sheltered places could get
lower. Saturday will be sunny and warming up into the mid 70s,
several degrees warmer than today and reaching back to near or above
normal again.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
Basically a persistence forecast through early next
week. Surface high pressure will remain centered over the
Appalachians under a highly amplified mid level pattern. The airmass
will continue to slowly modify however. Highs will drift into the
middle to perhaps upper 70s (Monday) with lows trending from the
middle 40s or so to the lower 50s.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Very little change with the extended forecast as
October will continue to be October. This means dry conditions with
mild days and cool overnight periods. Highs will slowly migrate into
the upper 70s to near 80 by midweek. Lows will be in the middle to
upper 50s. A dry cold front will reset temperatures downward a bit
late in the period.

.AVIATION /00Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
VFR and SKC will continue over the next 24 hours. Stronger winds
aloft will mix down to the surface after sunrise Saturday with
northerly 8-12 knots sustained and gusts 15-18 knots expected.

Extended Outlook...Mainly VFR. Flight restrictions possible
from low stratus clouds late Saturday night into Sunday morning,
with ground fog possible Sunday night into Monday morning

.MARINE...
Through Saturday...Meandering deep offshore low and modest high
pressure centered across the inland Mid-Atlantic States will
result in a tightened N-NE gradient flow across the waters.
Should mainly see winds around 15 kt with gusts to around 20
kts, but a long period NE swell from the distant low offshore
will push seas up over SCA thresholds in the outer waters of our
northern 2 zones by Sat morning. Therefore a Small Craft
Advisory will be in effect Sat for seas mainly 10 to 20 nm off
the coast of Cape Fear northward. Elsewhere seas will be 2 to 4
ft.

Saturday Night through Wednesday...Northeast winds will persist
through the period as surface high pressure will remain in
place across the Appalachians. Wind speeds should remain in a
10-15 knot range. Significant seas will be a little higher
Saturday night into early Sunday due to a lingering swell
component but overall in a range of 2-4 feet.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Minor coastal flooding likely to occur along the immediate coast of
Southeast NC and Northeast SC and along the banks of the lower Cape
Fear River from Wilmington southward through the upcoming weekend.
Primary occurrence will be the morning through early afternoon high
tides. The high astronomical tides from the recent full moon and
persistent north to northeasterly winds will aid in the minor
coastal flooding.
