* IMPACTS...Portions of Battleship Road and USS North Carolina 
  Road observe minor coastal flooding up to one foot in depth. 
  In downtown Wilmington, sections of Water Street observe minor 
  flooding up to one half foot in depth. Check with local

.SYNOPSIS...
Cooler and drier than normal conditions are expected to continue
through the remainder of this week before temperatures and
humidity return to normal early next week. A coastal trough will
bring shower and isolated thunderstorm chances for coastal
areas on Friday and Saturday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
For fans of fall weather, the next 24+ hours are going to continue
to feel more like late September/early October versus summertime.
Surface high pressure centered over NC this afternoon will
strengthen into tomorrow, in turn strengthening the inland wedge
east of the Appalachians and dry, cool northeast winds across the
area. A coastal trough currently ~200 miles offshore will slowly
move towards the coast tonight into tomorrow, although strong ridge
inland looks to keep the trough further from shore than originally
thought this time yesterday. Main impact will be increased cloud
cover near the coast through tomorrow, with only a few high clouds
inland, and a couple of showers possible across Georgetown county
and the immediate coastline where a moisture gradient will be set up.

Low temps tonight will get into the upper 50s inland with decent CAA
and where winds will be lighter and high clouds thinner. Low temps
Friday morning will be in the low 60s across coastal counties due
where the boundary layer will remain mixed and increased cloud
coverage due to the offshore trough. While most of the low temp
records are safe (see Climate section below), there is a good chance
the 60F min T record at Florence, SC could be broken by Friday
morning. Another cool day in store for Friday with high temps around
80-82F.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Weak mid-upper troughing will persist over the eastern US
through the period while a weak and disorganized mid-level low
spins about and drifts westward over the Gulf of Mexico. The
overall weakness in the height field and subtle upper-level
divergence over the western Atlantic will support active
convection in the vicinity of a stalled front which will drift
closer to our coastline over Friday night through Saturday. The
result will be a potential for scattered showers and perhaps an
isolated storm to affect the coastal counties and adjacent areas,
primarily on Saturday. With enhanced low-level moisture
streaming off the ocean and plenty of mid-upper debris clouds
produced by offshore convection, increased cloudiness is also
expected in the coastal counties. Highs should reach the low
80s near the coast and middle 80s inland after morning lows
ranging from the upper 60s near the coast to low-mid 60s
inland.

On Sunday, mid-level ridging over the central US is forecast to
build eastward in tandem with surface high pressure edging
southwestward from the Mid-Atlantic states. These both should
act to displace the stalled front further away and limit
isolated showers to the coastal areas over Saturday night and
Sunday. With decreasing cloud cover, expect highs to reach the
upper 80s away from the immediate shoreline after morning lows
fall into the mid-upper 60s.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Mid-upper ridging will gradually build eastward through the
long-term period, marking a return to more normal temperatures
and weather conditions for summer. Winds will slowly veer
around to southeasterly by late Monday, southerly on Tuesday,
and southwesterly on Wednesday as surface high pressure weakens
and shifts offshore. In terms of rain chances, with the mid-
level ridge axis remaining to our west early in the week, PoPs
are generally kept below mentionable values as dry, subsiding
air should keep most activity at bay, except for an isolated
brief shower in spots along the sea breeze. This ridge axis
moves overhead during Wednesday and Thursday, resulting in a
decrease in subsidence, and thus, PoPs are slightly higher then,
but no more than 10-20% each afternoon. Highs return into the
low 90s away from the immediate coast by Tuesday and persist
through the remainder of the week. Lows rebound from the mid-
upper 60s on Sunday night back into the low 70s by midweek.

.AVIATION /00Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Mainly VFR conditions are expected.  There is a chance for MVFR cigs
to move north and impact coastal SC terminals (MYR and CRE) towards
18Z.  There could also be a stray shower at MYR/CRE.  Northeast
winds prevail due to wedge of high pressure inland, with occasional
gusts of 15-20 kts during daylight hours.

Extended Outlook...A stalled front offshore and persistent
easterly winds poses a risk for restrictions due to passing low
clouds and showers near the coast late Friday into Saturday.
Otherwise predominantly VFR conditions expected.

.MARINE...
Through Friday...A coastal trough currently 200 miles offshore will
move closer to the coast tonight into tomorrow, while remaining over
the coastal waters. As the trough gets closer tonight, the pressure
gradient tightens a bit and NE winds over the waters strengthens.
Sustained winds will be 15-20 kts with occasional gusts to 25 kts
for most of the period. Seas increase in response from 3-4 ft this
evening to 4-5 ft by Friday morning with the building NE wind wave.
A short term SCA has been issued just for the southern most coastal
zone in our area (AMZ256 - Murrells Inlet to South Santee River) for
tonight through Friday afternoon where 25 kt gusts are expected to
be more frequent and 6 foot waves possible in the outer half of the
zone (10-20nm from shore). Scattered showers possible along the
trough late tonight through tomorrow, though instability looks to be
meager so only expecting isolated thunder chances.

Friday night through Tuesday...
Elevated northeasterly winds of 15-20 kts due to a tightened
gradient between high pressure to the north and a stalled front
offshore will gradually subside through Saturday as high
pressure weakens and the front drifts away. As high pressure
becomes better established offshore, expect winds to veer to
southerly by early Tuesday. With winds weakening, expect seas
around 3-4 ft to slowly subside through the weekend and settle
down to around 2 ft by early Tuesday. Wave period should hold
around 6 sec for ENErly waves through the weekend while SErly
swells at around 8 sec arrive on Saturday and become dominant
from Sunday night through Tuesday.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
High astronomical tides from the recent full moon along with
residual runoff from recent heavy rainfall, and persistent
northeast to east winds will keep tide levels elevated into the
weekend. Thus, minor to perhaps moderate coastal flooding is
expected, especially along the Lower Cape Fear River.
